China Unveils First Home-Made Helicopter Gunship

Chinese Home Made Helicopter Gunship

Less than a month following reports that Pakistan allowed China to view the remains of the top-secret stealth helicopter that SEAL Team 6 left behind at the bin Laden compound, China has begun combat testing of its first home-made helicopter gunship. ITN News on the growing military power’s publicity stunt to unveil the aircraft:

China’s Defense Ministry denied reports in mid-August that officials had viewed the U.S. vehicle remains in Pakistan.

The Telegraph reports that despite China’s repeated assurances that it plans a “peaceful rise”, the US and many regional powers are openly expressing concerns about China’s military build-up.

A U.S. Defense Department report released Wednesday called alarm to China’s maritime ambitions and push into weapons technologies that the U.S. has long dominated, WSJ:

“The Pentagon took special note of Beijing’s aspiration to project naval power beyond its territorial waters. In the past year, China has alarmed the U.S. and its neighbors with a more combative stance on territorial disputes in the East and South China seas. Earlier this month, China sent its first aircraft carrier on sea trials. While China‘s navy ’retains a decidedly regional focus,‘ the report said Chinese warships ’will play a growing role in protecting China’s far-flung interests.’”

China spent $160billion on its military in 2010.

High tech for the 70′s. Exactly how “new” do you think our helicopters are? Most were built and designed in the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s. As far as the airframe and power plant is concerned they are more or less as advanced as anything we have. The avionics and weapon systems though are where the money is these days. When they start fielding advanced munition I’l start being nervous.

“Home made” The only thing China does itself is steal the technology and then manufacture it. Why our world leaders continue to allow record numbers of Chinese students, experts, and workers (spies) enter our best universities and corporations and then piece by piece they steal technology and put the pieces together back home. The Chinese are lying thieves and will do anything to use Americans in any way and then laugh at our incredible ignorance as we fall never to get up again.

Stop Chinese immigration! Chinese espionage is out of control and we have lost Trillions and caused huge threats to ourselves because of it. Don’t Trust the Commie Chinese!

It might be high tech from the 70′s, but I assure you in the very near future they will far surpass the US and any other country in the world, with their military and weapons. They are proceeding just like we did at the end of WW2. Soon we will no longer be the Military Superpower we once were. They are spending great amounts of money for defense while we keep cutting back.

Yes, the airframes are based for the Blackhawks are a 1970′s design, but since then, all the electronics, engines, weapons, etc have been upgrades. I’m not too worried about china for a few reasons.

      1. I believe in the American people. I believe we will set things straight and continue to be the strongest nation on the planet. Also, as far as how bad things are now, things have been worse for us before.

      2. China may be making leaps and bounds when it comes to things like economic growth and military strenght, but it won’t last long for a few reasons. A) We are not the only ones in debt. Besides all the other nations in debt, China is also in a lot of debt. They owe us 750 billion dollars, but they refuse to repay it (I think we should refuse to pay our debt to them and call it even :D ) B) They have taken some pretty risks to try to continue the growth of their economy. These risks will, and are already beginning to hurt them. In fact, you know the housing bubble here? Yeah, imagine that like 100 times worse and in china (probably even worse than that). The Chinese government has built over 2 dozen whole cities (ya know, ones that are the size of New York and even bigger… wonder how much that cost them). They built the cities in anticipation of people moving into them as the nation became more industrialized. Well, almost no one has moved into them. This means that an extremely huge bubble will soon pop and their economy will literaly come crashing down on them. C) The United States most likely has a ton of secret technology still waiting to be pulled out.

Basically, I seriously doubt china will become the

      @flyingfish,

In case you haven’t noticed, our aircraft are not just the same old designs that were put into service in the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s. Since then we have upgraded all of our fixed and rotary wing assets with new avionics suites and we have continuously done airframe and engine upgrades to them. The oldest flying assets that we have are probably the CH-46′s that the Marines ride in and they are one of the most dependable aircraft in the fleet. However, they are all planned to be replaced with the Osprey very soon. Also, our attack helicopters have been redesigned and new ones are being built like the yankee and zulu huey and cobra. Both of these new rotary wings are currently in production and being fielded currently in training and service squadrons. These new birds are far more nimble, powerful, faster, and have higher payload capacities. To top it off, they are also cheaper to maintain because the electronics are more sturdy, the aircraft share even more of the same parts, and they are built to today‘s standards and with today’s technology. The reason that it appears that our fleet is made up of old birds is because we have done such a good job maintaining them that those assets just keep flying. Also, it is far more cost effective to fly our planes that we already have that are still capable and valuable assets without having to buy an entirely new arsenal.

yeah, we have have the CAPABILITY to make very advanced weapons technologies. You could term those as decades ahead of others. The reason that this means nothing would be that the government does not fund production. They study for decades, with billions in R&D, then determine that it would cost too much to build and scrap it. Throwing those billions in R&D up a wild horses @$$. Meanwhile the Chinese hack the research computers and build it themselves. See F-22.

We sent the CIA and Delta into the country, hired the Northern Alliance—whose hobby is killing ethnic Afghans anyway—provided some air strikes in support, and we drove Al Quaida and the Taliban out of the country. Then the Pentagon decided to send in the clowns and make it a conventional war and the rest is history. Bahgram AFB has a Burger King and a Pizza Hut. What does “winning” mean, and how are we going to accomplish what the Greeks, the Brits and the Russian couldn’t? Our “tactics” and our strategy suck. The Chinese have a disposable surplus of about 17 million military-age men with no prospects for marriage. They could paddle here on crude rafts and attack us with rocks and win.

@kinnison one of the issues with out current set of wars is our rules of engagement, our troops can witness people clearly burying ied’s in the ground, but our boys ang girls are told to presume they are doing road work, snipers in iraq can witness a guy shoot a machine gun or a rpg, if the guy gets behind cover and then shows up on a rooftop shortly after without a weapon, the sniper cant shoot the obvious suspect.

and thats not even including the fact that our troops are told not to attack even when they are being fired upon (thanks obama) they even made a new medal for troops to collect (pokemon anyone?) because of that ROE, and lastly our boys and girls are required to give forigniers miranda rights in the middle of a battle field, and then are required to bring them back to base so they can lawyer up (at our expense) not to mention, they are giving american rights to non americans.

we already have a set of rules and actions that apply to prisioners of war.

so untill we stop playing games, were not going to get anything done except export and import opium. facts facts and more facts

From Washington Times, July 2010: “The White House National Security Council recently directed U.S. spy agencies to lower the priority placed on intelligence collection for China, amid opposition to the policy change from senior intelligence leaders who feared it would hamper efforts to obtain secrets about Beijing’s military and its cyber-attacks.” And this is a surprise? Not!

Every weapons system they showed in that video is from another country. They have gotten very good at reverse engineering, but their ideas seem lacking. Our older Cobras would likely outclass that thing in weapons and especially tactics.

No, but if this is their “new” helicopter gunship our Cobras, Apaches, command and control, pilots, and tactics will outclass them by far, and so will our numbers. We have been producing our own attack helos since the 60s. At this point, we heave the numbers too…maybe not for long, but we have them now.

Indeed, the Chinese Communist Party and their armed forces are using the methods of Sun Tzu in the Art of War:

      A. Attack the opposing nations Strategy — econonomic, social, cultural, traditional and historical means (Constitution and a Republic Government), and military means and ways. All perfectly done in the utter destruction being carried out across the nation by Mr Obama.

      B. Attack Alliances — They are making inroads into the nations of Japan, South Korea, Australia, Philipines, and India. Using trade, economic and military assistance, base leases for their naval forces and such.

These are the first two main plays being done by them.

Of the 36 Strategems in the Art of War, the best is “to get the hell out of there…”. That’s what US ought to do–get the hell out of there ( well, you know where!).

Anyone who believes that this gunship is “homemade” is a stone cold idiot. It looks to be 98% U.S., 12% British & 8% Israeli.

Yeah the math doesn’t add up. Neither does the “homemade” BS.

There are thousands of factories in China operated by mom and pop and there are high-tech factories. You get what you pay for from China — and believe me — the can/and do produce high-tech, top-quality items — when they want/need to.
