Chinese Police Use Shrill Whistles & Water Cannons on Protesters

SHANGHAI (AP) — Large numbers of police — and new tactics like shrill whistles and street cleaning trucks — squelched overt protests in China for a second Sunday in a row after calls for peaceful gatherings modeled on recent democratic movements in the Middle East.
At one end of Shanghai‘s People’s Square, uniformed police blew whistles nonstop and shouted at people to keep moving, though about 200 people — a combination of onlookers and quiet sympathizers — braved the noise. In Beijing, trucks normally used to water the streets drove repeatedly up the busy commercial shopping district spraying water and keeping crowds pressed to the edges.
Foreign journalists met with tighter police controls. In Shanghai, authorities called foreign reporters Sunday warning them to stay away from the protest sites, while police in Beijing followed some reporters and blocked those with cameras from entering the Wangfujing shopping street where protests were called for.
Police also detained several Chinese, at least two in Beijing and four in Shanghai, putting them into vans and driving them away, though officials did not give a reason.
The more heated response compared with last week shows how the mysterious calls for protest have left the authoritarian government on edge. Unlike Egypt and Tunisia where popular frustrations with economic malaise added fuel to popular protests to oust autocratic leaders, China has a booming economy and rising living standards. Still, the leadership is battling inflation and worries that democratic movements could take root if unchallenged.
“Rapid inflation affects people’s livelihoods and may affect social stability,” Premier Wen Jiabao said in an online chat Sunday. He later added: “I know the impact that prices can cause a country and am deeply aware of its extreme importance.”
The initial online call for protest that first circulated on an overseas Chinese news website 10 days ago called for Chinese to imitate the “Jasmine Revolution” that started in Tunisia, urging them to gather peacefully at sites in 13 cities. A renewed call earlier this week expanded the target cities to 27.
While the origins of the calls are not known, police have questioned, placed under house arrest and detained more than 100 people. At least five have been detained on subversion or national security charges, in some cases for passing on information about the protest calls.

Just what the left is after, right, this type of government? Very confusing to me, they want control over here like they have over there so they riot out in our streets. Now they want riots in China too! Do they want even more control or do they just want misery for all people except the elite? All I see in this chaos is misery for all. They will not be happy till the whole world is poor, living in exactly the same kind of huts and having only what they need to survive. Is that there version of the middle class? Who will tell us all what to do,God? They don’t believe in God. Do they want one king of the world or what? Absolutely insane to me! Is Obama the chosen one?

You nailed it right there. The left is filled with malcontents and losers who simply cannot or will not compete in a free market society/ A system which requires one to be better than the rest to get hired to work to become wealthy and one day own one’s own business is the usual ladder ascended.
To these people though, that‘s ’too hard‘ and they’d rather sit all day smoking government provided crack and booze partying until they‘re dead and they don’t care if it’s in a mud hut as long as everyone else is in a similar mud hut.
As they say MISERY LOVES COMPANY and that’s why the losers and loons try dragging everyone else down to their sub basement level of life. They can’t climb upward so they drag the rest of us into their sad and pathetic existences.

At this point in time we are seeing groups working together for a common goal, one of which is the destruction of the most powerful and influential county on the planet, us.
Each group believes, once there is enough damage and people become desperate, thier group can step in and offer a solution. Or just take out right power.

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 1:41pmWhen I lived in China for awhile and they discovered a major new oil source off their coast, the state-run news media (of course) hailed it as great for China. The ordinary citizens I knew were also happy for the discovery because it would help China. Same thing happened in Brazil when they verified one of the world’s largest oil reserves in the world just off their coast. The government and people were thrilled what it meant for economic development and jobs. The US is the only country I know of that its leaders (progressive dumbocRat socialists mostly) abhor the presence of our vast domestic resources. Its an absolute outrage that we are virtually shut down because of this administration and the regulatory agencies. Take a look at what this administration has done to the gulf coast exploration industry – decimated and it will take years to start back up. 50 – 60K jobs gone. In war, a foreign enemy tries to destroy energy self-reliance and the prosperity and power it affords a nation. Thats what I’m saying, the enemy is here.

Report Post »Snowleopard {gallery of cat folks}
Posted on February 27, 2011 at 9:38amMost likely both. No, in all seriousness, it is likely the noise is done via loudspeaker at frequencies set to cause pain in hearing, and upset the nervous systems – several shows on cable and tech magazines have called the tech ‘infrasound’ and is considered a non-lethal form of crowd control.
At the least, with the Chinese government not using bullets right off the bat, they have shown a small amount of restraint; the major fact is there own country is on the edge of a cliff, and soon we will see which way she will go.
Ultra worse case – civil war erupts between ethnic and political lines, shattering the country into a series of smaller nation-states within the greater region.
Most likely case – some cosmetic changes will be made in the country to give the apperance of more freedoms, while control is still kept centeral to the governments hands.

Loud noise (like police sirens), flashing lights at the frequency designed to provoke a sense of fear at the correct wavelength that the brain is most sensitive to (red and blue).

Posted on February 27, 2011 at 2:39pmMake no mistake China is having internal economic problems. They are not as solid as many would like to think. Increased urbanization, the demand for higher pay, and increased consumption of resources with the ever rising cost of commodities are creating quite a problem that most definitely could rock international economies at a time they could least afford it. China is also being heavily pressured to stop artificially undervaluing its currency which is why their exports are so strong. This is really the main thrust behind their economic growth driven by strong exports to the US and Europe. China has an ever increasing gap between the wealthy and the poor. I predict China is not our greatest threat and will implode on itself. It was the second largest economy in the late 1800′s also. When these large gaps of wealth exist in a society it becomes ripe with corruption and stifles any growth it may have sustained and begins a gradual decline. I believe all indications point to this pattern in modern day China.
“Serious troubles in China’s economy could threaten the stability of the U.S. and global economies,” writes Paulson in Foreign Affairs.

http://moneynews.com/StreetTalk/paulson-china-economy/2008/08/25/id/325026
Combine this with economic pressures in the US with declining currency value and enormous debt, High unemployment across the Middle East with significant political unrest and adjustments, insolvency in the EU of several major economies and its falling Euro and the rising cost of commodities secondary to increase demand with decreasing supplies due to emerging economies like India and China are setting the stage for another world war conflict. Historically, when these factors culminate such as they are now the almost inevitable outcome is military conflict
