There is a new Russell Crowe movie called “The Next Three Days.” The story in China, though, is this guy’s Last Three Days.
CNN:
A Chinese man was rescued Sunday after spending 80 hours in a steel shaft that sunk 18 meters (59 feet) underwater, China’s official Xinhua news agency reported Monday.
The worker, a 43-year-old man identified as Fan Shengjia, became stuck Thursday while working in the shaft at Jiaxing Harbor on China’s east coast, Xinhua said.
The shaft, which was about 1 meter in diameter and which the Xinhua report also described as a barrel, was part of an offshore operation platform and was connected to a cement column.
But the shaft buckled under tidal pressure, narrowing to only 3 cm (1 inch) at its narrowest point, Xinhua said. Fan was working at the bottom of the shaft at the time.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 7:49amIt is definately possible to hold your breath for 48 hours, but holding it for longer could cause brain damage. I have never been able to hold mine for over a minute, but I am in serious atrophy at this time. I have’nt been able to get out of my bed for some time but in the grand scheme of things I am actually doing a favor to mankind in that I am alerting the public to the disasters attributed to the global warming epidemic and trying to stop the creation of green house gasses partnering with my friend Dan Foster we will be able to end this attrocity and bring about a new frontier of technology, green technology that is available and accessable to all people but mostly Americans.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 12:50amThat’s what I was wondering, why were the medical staff the only ones wearing the masks, seems kind of weird and creepy. Like they know something the rest of the workers that came into contact with the man didn’t.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 12:36amIn fact a lot of people wear the masks over there, not just medical staff. The pollution is so bad that they are part of the daily outfit for some people.

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 9:46pmMaybe it’s a specialty trade that is hard to master? Otherwise you’re probably right they might have gone with their fall back position of well got a billion more where he came from. Or maybe they wanted a good PR story?

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 8:50pmSee in China where we buy all of our stuff from….TV’s, VCR’s…funiture, they paid that guy $6 a day. Here, we would have inspector’s, Cal Osha, design tech’s, Unions, State and Federal guidlines and if something were to happen, the employee would hire an attorney and sue for millions. Not saying either side is right or wrong….but the fact is on a competitive industry level of creating a product to sell….thats the competition…wonder why we have such a trade balance. All the cash for clunkers were shipped to China and then resold back to us as rebar, steel and sellable products.

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 8:27pmso thats what a sardine feels like lol maybe we should send all our unions over there where they are of some use, and let them pay for their insane pay and benefits………..it would save us a huge bundle of money, protect the chinese worker, and help balance the trade deficit, and help bring work and industry back to the U.S.
win, win, win, scenario cheers trumpka and seiu i bet those chinese will see things your way lol

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 8:41pmI’d highly recommend you read up on the history of China. It goes back thousands of years (even prior to egypt.)
I stand in awe of their long line of recorded history, innovation and philosophy. i mean wow!
I still don’t understand all of it through my American eyes. But we need to understand our “advisaries” to their very core.
do it as a student…
I am.

Their history, culture, and many other things are incredible indeed. Try to examine it in this context… Look at the changes made per generation, in which the family, and nations tend to lay plans based on the second, third, and sometimes fourth generation being the finishers of the first generations own beginnings of a work. Most of their government was run along the lines such as a business machine in that each person has a fixed place, neither moving to another part, nor changing unless mandated by directions of those of higher station.
Another aspect of their philosophy may be gained by reading the book of Sun Tzu “The Art of War” by the translator and author John Minford (Delux edition by Penguine Classics)
In addition check out the texts based on the “Three Kingdoms Era” which is some good reading for anyone with the patience to get through it.

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 9:04pm@ butcher, i fully understand chinese history as I am a history major why throw wrenches into a perfectly great idea to rid ourselves of our parasitic unions , and at the same time use them to help even out the trade deficit and cut down on our union overhead costs?
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX man lol

Posted on November 21, 2010 at 10:24pmwill do.
I just think there is something we (americans) are not getting/understanding about China and its positioning in future dealings.
I distrust and dislike the unions as much as anyone but the cards China holds over us are far better than international unionization. they have so many of our economic “strings” in hand but…
…i plead ignorance…i am no economist… i am searching to understand beyond simple nationalistic explainations and feel good slogans of “restoring honor” etc…
….it is a MAJOR problem to our national survival i think
sorry, i cant go into details i’ve yet to grasp.
this story will continue and i will learn more

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 10:31amWhat exactly does China have we need? Cheap slave labor? What would they do if we said, ok we aren’t paying you back? Stop flooding our markets with cheaply made crap? We are the only nation in the world that has everything we need to be hugely successful. 20 years ago, we should have started adding 10% a year tariff on all finished goods coming in to the US, and 20% a year on all raw materials going out. We would have had a slight downturn in our economy for a few months while manufacturing spun pack up in this nation, and the rest of the world would have spiraled down. We can live better without the rest of the world, but the rest of the world can’t live nearly as well without us. We need to stop listening to the rich fat cats that want to get richer off the slave labor from developing nations.
