Chinese ‘Ruling Elite’ Believe they are ‘Approaching an Inevitable Breaking Point’

Recently, the news media has been overloaded with stories about “income inequality,“ ”corporate greed,“ and the ongoing struggle between the ”99%“ and the ”1%.”

Granted, these are probably issues that should be addressed, but one feels compelled to say that there is no need to riot over these things especially when one compares the situation in the U.S. to other countries.

China is a good example. Some of the issues facing the workers in the communist country make the complaints of the average OWS protester pale in comparison.

For instance, Since 2003, house prices in China have tripled.

Not bad enough?

Well, consider some of these facts (via Business Insider):

  • Around 140 million farmers have had their land forcibly seized by the government in the past 17 years
  • 16,810 Chinese coal miners have died in accidents in the past five years
  • There are nearly 500 million who live on less than $2 a day

Chinese Ruling Elite Believe they are Approaching an Inevitable Breaking Point

Now to be sure, most would argue the economic situation in the U.S. is not pretty. Unemployment is intolerably high, regulations are stifling business growth and the Federal deficit is out of control. But when talking about the U.S. economy, the OWS protesters might consider keeping things in perspective — and if they want to talk about the “wealth gap,” perhaps look to China.

Capitalism didn’t cause the problems over there. Autocratic rule and “institutionalized corruption” did. If the Occupiers are really concerned about “income inequality” in the U.S., they might do well to stop blaming bankers and search out the corrupt politicians and crony capitalists who helped to create this financial mess.

It seems that’s precisely what the Chinese have started doing. There is a reported average of about 493 mass protests in China every day because of “a deep-seated unhappiness with abuses of power and officials who see themselves as above the law” (not because of student loans or $5 debit card fees).

The real question is whether those protests will eventually turn into a revolution.

Some people think so.

According to the Financial Times, it has gotten to the point where even the Chinese “ruling elite” are whispering to one another about the possibility of revolution.

Obviously, news of this sort has the Chinese government spooked. When Patrick Chovanec, an associate professor at Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management in Beijing, first read the Financial Times report, he was unable to repost it and instead wrote:

. . . the article’s last three paragraphs — are too explosive for me to reprint in a blog authored in China. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you read it.

What did he read that would be unthinkable to post in China?

These are the passages he was talking about:

In private conversations, many of the people who supposedly make up the ruling elite of China express serious misgivings about the direction and future stability of the country, while admitting that they feel largely powerless to affect meaningful change.

“There is a sense that we are approaching an inevitable breaking point, when the pressures in society will boil over and consume the rulers,” says one Chinese banker with close ties to a number of powerful political families.

“Almost all of the elements are in place for an uprising like we saw in 1989 – corruption is worse today than it was then, people feel they can’t get ahead without political connections, the wealth gap is much bigger and growing and there has been virtually no political reform at all. The only missing ingredient now is a domestic economic crisis.”’

Indeed, just one crisis.

Look, China isn’t near a breaking point. Housing has gone up. But they are building ghost cities for crying out loud! Sure eminent domain is being exercised more. More people are moving to the cities or metropolitan areas for work. That means close in areas are being developed. Not farmed. Finally, as China works to exercise its new capitalist approach fluctuations may be a bit larger than they should be. But if that’s a concern for you, you aren’t going to invest in the DOW either.

I don’t trust China, at all. They have literally never approached the world from a similar view point as the rest of the world. Corruption is endemic. Stratified power puts your life literally in the hands of nearly everyone with a title. But a breaking point?

One thing this could do is start a panic. If the elite feel they are pressured, they could trigger a panic in the general population.

Ruler…. building a ton of ghost cities, essentially flooding the market with extra supply, in a normal market would make the prices drop(like in the us), not triple. China has monetary problems similar to the ones we will be having soon due to the government manipulation of its currency. Also, no society is free when the right to private property is not secure, this is one of the first principles of America that has been forgotten.

How do you get rid of a government when you have no guns? Every member of society has someone they know in the military. Most government take overs happen with a military takeover….the only problem here is with the top military brass (in commie countries) being as corrupt as the boneheads in charge. It seems to me that the ruling Chinese government wants it both ways. Personally, I hope for and only want the best for the average Chinese citizen. They are a very strong and robust people. If one wishes to look at their history, they are, no doubt one of the strongest, and most conservative people on the planet. It just stinks that Communism keeps rearing it’s ugly head over the last 60 or so years. I find it funny (as in odd) that the government loves and embraces Socialism/Communism,,, oh, lets not mention the governments’ rather arrogant attitude against Capitalism, but needs, and continues to embrace Capitalism to develop their country. What I think is the sickest part of all, it seems the Communist Chinese constantly pound their chest and look at Russia as betrayers of the Communist manifesto (mostly back in the 40-70′s). What a bunch of freakin arrogant jerks! Just like most Communist governments,,, they pay no mind to the people while they ride around in their limousines and live in their posh homes while their people starve. Oh,, then they have the nerve to point to us, the US, and say how terrible we are! Oh,, not to mention it is us, in the US that paid for their nice lifestyle, and builds their military that they plan to use against us…. Holy crap folks!!! When are we, and the average Chinese citizen going to wake up!!! We are the idiots in all this!!!! For what it’s worth….

I agree, they are really an awesome people. The problem they’re going to have is the government. When the tienimen square uprising took place, the whole world thought something good is about to happen there. here was pbaby 100,000 people in the square protesting. ho can forget the single person stopping a tank. Then, a couple weeks into it, thy kickd out all foriegn journalists and went in at night. With thousands of troops and hundreds of tanks. The few videos that got out showed a total masacre. Men, om, and children….killed where they stood. No questions were asked, no ultimatums given no chance to escape. Some estimates are 50,000 to 80,000 people were killed. hey kept the square closed for a ew weeks after that to get rid of the bodies and repair all the damage. When they opened it back up it looked like nothing had happened. At first they said there was ony a few rrests and no injuries or deaths. Over the years, however, people have gotten out and told the real story. hen mao took over, he said he didn’t mind killing up to 200,000,000 people because the population was so big, it wouldn’t even be a problem. The government took the gun rights there after mao came in, so I don’t see what the people could do.

Chinese will put a fellow Chinese even a corrupt one above any American they are brainwashed from birth that they are the superior race and culture and that they are destined to rule the world one day. The US and Canada are merely territories to be slowly conquered and colonized to solve their overpopulation problems. As our economy crumbles our corrupt politicians are allow millions of corrupt commies and spies from China into our country. They are stealing our technology and getting rich, once they get rich they migrate to American, Canada and other Western countries and use their huge dollar reserves to buy our land, property, businesses, and politicians for pennies on the dollar. China towns pop up everywhere, they don’t assimilate and then they start electing their own officials that are proxies for the Chinese government in our country.

In the ‘for what its worth’ dept……
As to the Chinese people and them being “awesome”, as one poster said… I worked for a company where I came in contact with tens of ‘thousands’ of people over a nearly 39 year career.
I can say (from my experience) with certainty that there are traits exhibited by certain cultural groups on a fairly consistent basis. Now, I’m not saying every person of a particular ethnic/cultural group is the same but, rather, a pattern of attitudes would re-occur often enough when I met people of particular groups that I had to conclude that their behavorial pattern was linked to their cultural heritage.

As to the Chinese, I found they exibited a sometimes arrogant, pushy/beligerant attitude. This was very distinct, as opposed to the Japanese, who consistently are a very pleasant, respectful, polite people.
      In an unrelated ‘people’ story:
Yesterday, I had a conversation with an older Black gentleman. He was attempting to park an old, rather long Cadillac next to our van at one of those ‘wholesale club’ parking lots. His pass. window was down a bit, and I said to him “you need to park that in the truck section.” He laughed. As he got out, he explained how the gas mi wasn’t so good, and we had a rather pleasant discussion for several minutes.

As you can well see, to these corrupt Chinese politicians, ignorance is bliss. Just as Barack Hussein Obama is a disciple of the Dark Side, so are the corrupt officials in China. There is absolutely no difference. Obama and his cabal of evil are trying to inculcate and press into the people, the culture, the societal and political system the very tenants of socialism/communism and in the process expel our Constitutionally based system of government along with its freedoms, individualism, free enterprise, property rights and other liberties.
As been portrayed in the above article, the OWSers need to merely look to China, Russia, Greece, Italy, etc. to learn the complete utter destruction and chaos that results from each and every attempt to institute a communist/socialist form of government.
It is imperative that we become much more organized at all levels and acquire the appropriate tools to counter every move of Obama and the elitists who are working overtime to implement their destructive strategies and programs to undermine and destroy all that they can while in power, if in fact they are not able to retain their authoritative positions.
Discourse is great, but now is the time for thoughtful, precise and effective action to not just throw a wrench into Obama’s machine, but with precision, not only derail but to implement counter measures to turn back Obama’s advances and stake claim to any territories that we may have lost and shore up those that have been damaged.

Any government which creates situations where underlings can become powerful is the issue. The top people empower underlings to carry out their wishes – except (like the EPA, etc., in the U.S.) that power goes to those who seek (and abuse) power over others. And do the top people care? Maybe. But, it is a power trip that always gets out of control.

Those who seek power are NOT the brightest and the best. They are the grown up bullies on the school playground. And they are used to bullying to get their way – it’s in their psyche. Communism and socialism create a place for these bullies to thrive.

WALKABOUT, yeah, they didn’t like my post. This thread addresses the huge economic inequality in China. The Chinese understand that is a problem. They know that the only way to maintain a tiny priveledged class on top of a huge poor, lower class is through military force (China isn’t “communist” they are simply despotic). They know that ultimately people in that kind of state will rebel and win.

The point I was making is that the US is moving toward the Chinese model, not away from it. More and more power and influence is moving to a plutocratic upper class. The continuation of that movement is the guiding principal of the Republican party. The inequality of wealth isn’t much larger in China than the US. That’s what OWS is protesting.

Go 2 hours into the country side and you still see 70 year old couples tending to their cabbage and carp ponds. Where as ‘poor’ in the USA have Plasma TVs and couches the poor in China don’t have power, running water, access to any Dr and if they are lucky they have a bike to get around vs. walking. I can see serious unrest occuring in China if the Govt continues to abuse the poor. Some in the USA should just stop complaining..

I don’t know what your business is in China, but only businessmen take such risks. They are visionaries. Heck, GM and Ford have been building cars in China since the 20s. The current and near future leaders of China are businessmen who clear the path for profit and growth. People there walk in public squares safely at night. There are walking paths through lovely parks everywhere as well as many mountain walks etc. They are updating railroads, improving road systems, banning cars in some cities, etc. Their ancient Guanxi networking culture ensures that they will bury the ever weakening west. THEY AREN’T FREE and sooner or later they are gonna want some of the “good stuff” they produce and send over here…YEP…can you even begin to imagine how much power those people actually have when you consider the sheer number of them vs the elite? Sure they are a capitalistic/communist hybrid…and guess what? What their “Democracy” will look like is MOB RULE! You betcha! Their “occupy” moment will be when they go and inhabit all those empty cities that have been built to prop up their “copper-backed’ economy!

When the peasants rise up in China and finally drive the elite out, the elite will simply go to plan B where they take all the cash and gold, use their war machine against the US and take over America where they can continue their grand experiment in socialism/marxism/communism. They never give up. This time it will be a little harder for them unless they can convince Obama to take all our guns first ( easy one ).

There was a report put out recently that 60% of wealthy Chinese millionaires plan to immigrate to the US and Canada. The real question is do we want tens or hundreds of thousands more corrupt Communist multi millionaires coming to America? Thanks to our corrupt politicians they are opening there arms wide open to receive them. All they have to do is buy up our land and businesses for pennies on the dollar and the can get an eb5 investor green card and soon after they can get the whole extended family on our welfare system and then it’s anchor babies away! We need to shut these programs out, keep out these corrupt communist spies and pass laws that ban foreign land ownership in America like many other countries around the world do. Boycott ALL foreign businesses, ALL foreign products, and don’t hire foreign employees, stick together Americans and support locals.

Don’t think this is not connected to the Occupy movement….it is. It may start as a freedom movement, but the iron fisted communists in China will use an uprising as an excuse to expand it’s empire into Taiwan and elsewhere.

If the Occupiers are really concerned about “income inequality” in the U.S., they might do well to stop blaming bankers and search out corrupt the politicians and crony capitalists who helped to create this financial mess.

AMEN!! We try to tell OWS, but they are too brainwashed to understand….still I keep trying, as we all should. Rush radio had a 16 college student who called in and said she was converted to Rush’s way of thinking. If it can work on one intelligent young college student = don’t give up on them yet.

No amount of propaganda brain washing would keep me as a $2 a day factory worker from being angry at Communist policy. I might smile from ear to ear and parrot the command and control talking points issued by the bureau of correct thinking. However, I would resent the whole world coming to China to manufacture, having the whole world fortune flowing into China, and instead of raising my pay, my living standard , all that cash wasted buying foreign bonds to people who only pay 3% interest just print press whatever cash they need to pay at that. They are all SLAVES doing all the hard work for an elite society of people who just print paper and live the spoiled bourguassi life.

@Dagger82 — I imagine old Soros will soon make his move on China as well; imagine this possible scenario, with first taking into account the massive trade deficits and debt China owns from the US.

IF Soros is able to break the China currency and banks, then their nation can easily plunge into civil war and mass chaos. Next to go will be the Euro, and the US will be smashed by the double set of economical shockwaves due to Mr Obamas spreading of chaos and deliberate planned economical armagheddon.

When China finally implodes, it will go with such force, speed and shock that many people will say “what happened?”

@snowleopard. In 1803 Napoleon Bonaparte surveyed a map and pointed to China saying “China is a sickly, sleeping giant. But when she awakes the world will tremble. ….”
One thing the worlds communist did not take into account in their quest for global domination, is the highly resilient Chinese culture. They harbor great resentment for the west. They respect Americans more than any other culture right now for our fair trading practices since the 19th century. They respect the fact that volunteer American forces helped them defeat their Japanese occupiers. They respect the fact that their famines ended with American technology that Nixon gave to them. They respect the fact that American companies stuck it out during the Tienanmen Square uprising. We are making the big mistake by not making them our full partners against their enemies which surround them. Their respect for us is waning as we weaken. “The Art of War’ is in play and Sorros is not smart enough counter the Chinese strategies of self survival. They have learned much from their multi millennium existence. We will have to be as ruthless as the Chinese if we are to preserve our way of life. We must purge ourselves of the global progressive and dismantle their destructive machine. There are enough in the west who have the know how, intelligence and resources to correct this course if they act now. It requires war on a scale not seen before. The Chinese are actively recruiting these people.

You sir, are a prophet. Too many in this country think “this can never happen here” yet all of the indicators point to global change. A man can ultimately be only responsible for himself and his family, but can lend assistance to his neighbors. My house is a home to my family, I a minister in Christ, and my home a fortress against evil.

This article is nothing more than Western wishful thinking. Prople in China are glad to have the opportunities they do, and few are willing or able to rock the boat. If there is to be a revolution in China, it will certainly not occur until after the West has declined into third world poverty.

Incredible. For so long, so few have had power over so many in China. It’s a great thing that people are waking up. One concern with such a large population that has been in bondage for such a long time is that they don’t know how to be free and will soon return to what they have known for so long.

Freedom in not just a state of a nation; it requires public virtue–the ability to put others before oneself. Will the Chinese population, many of whom have never known Christ, know how to do that?

Actually, Michele Bachmann is the most prominent politico to recently suggest the the US should follow the example of the People’s Republic. Go figure. Also, notice how many two-fisted American capitalists prefer to locate their manufacturing operations in a country in which labor discipline is enforced by State Security?
