Chinese Toddler Left Bloody in Hit-and-Run Dies of Injuries

BEIJING (AP) — A toddler who was twice run over by vans and then ignored by passers-by on a busy market street died Friday a week after the accident and after days of bitter soul-searching over declining morality in China.
The Guangzhou Military District General Hospital said that the 2-year-old girl, Wang Yue, died shortly after midnight of brain and organ failure. “Her injuries were too severe and the treatment had no effect,” intensive care unit director Su Lei told reporters.
The plight of the child, nicknamed Yueyue, came to symbolize what many Chinese see as a decay in public morals after heady decades of economic growth and rising prosperity.
Gruesome closed-circuit camera video of last Thursday’s accident, aired on television and posted on the Internet, showed Yueyue toddling along the hardware market street in the southern city of Foshan. A van strikes her, slows and then resumes driving, rolling its back right wheel over the child. As she lays with blood pooling, 18 people walk or cycle by and another van strikes her before a scrap picker scoops her up.
See the video in our original report by clicking here.
Yueyue’s death touched off another round of hand-wringing about society and personal responsibility. Many comments posted to social media sites said “we are all passers-by.”
Li Xiangping, a professor of religion at Huadong University, said on a Twitter-like service that it is too easy to blame others. “What after all prompted such a sad phenomenon? Officials? The rich? Or is it our own cold-heartedness?” Li said on Sina Corp.’s Weibo.
Police have detained the drivers of both vans on suspicion of causing a traffic accident but have not said what formal charges they would face and if manslaughter would be among them now that the girl has died.
The people who could be seen on the video passing by the injured Yueyue have recounted being harassed for ignoring her. The respected Southern Metropolis Daily newspaper quoted a man it identified only as a hardware merchant Mr. Chen as saying that he had been receiving crank calls ever since someone picked him out as the 16th passer-by. He said he hadn’t noticed the child.
Some experts said an unwillingness to help others is an outgrowth of urbanization as migrants pour into cities and create neighborhoods of strangers.
“Rapid urbanization not only affects China or Foshan, but anywhere in the world where you have a lot of high-rise buildings, where there is high population density, then the relationship with the neighbors, and with each other is affected,” said Yao Yue, a psychologist and director of telephone help-line for distressed people in Beijing.

We need to find our heroes once again. They have been disappearing and no one is standing up to take their place. Could this kid have been saved if someone had stepped up and saved him…
Here is a hero I want to give honorable mention, a fireman that caught a kid who jumped from a 6th story burning building: http://www.americanparchment.com/video/2011/oct/firefighter_catches_boy.html

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 9:16amRemember the little four year old boy who debuted on Fox a couple or so years ago? He had appendicitis which the doctors didn’t catch and I believe that he wound up dying..but was revived? At any rate..he recanted a story to his parents about having gone to heaven. His dad, who is a minister wrote a book about it. THe little boy had said that while in heaven, he played with his sister. When his parents related to him that he had no sister.. he said something like “Oh yes I do Mommy..she said she died in your stomach.” THis four year old had never been told this.” So I am encouraged that children who don’t get to grow up here..get to grow up in heaven. Jesus Christ/Yeshuah is Lord.

The first driver..stopped…backed up..looked???…didn’t get out and help?…disgusting
I really have no doubt that if this same incident happened in one of our larger cities..the same thing would happen, any moralistic stance on our part is our trying to act morally superior to the “poor, backwards chinese” people…who by the way will probably soon be our bosses and running our country..

But there is no mention of the parents, before the incident or after. I would like to imagine them looking frantically for her when they realized she was missing.
As for the driver, how the hell do you not know you ran over something. He came to a complete stop straddling her, so he knew he hit something. Why would he drive off without first inspecting his vehicle!!!! I dont care if it was a dog, cat, sack of potatoes, you get out and make sure everything is ok.

Posted on October 21, 2011 at 8:43amAs I understand it you can only have 1 child in china. The victim was probably not the first child and she was a female (they really do not like little girls there) so out of fear of getting in trouble for having more than one it is possible the parents will never come forward. Nevermind the punishment for child neglect or the medical bills (do communists have co-pays?).

What a load od crap. This is typical communist propaganda. When the story first aired people were blaming a judge from Nanjing:
still alive.:
The “Nanjing judge” refers to an infamous 2006 incident where a young man named Peng Yu went to the aid of an elderly woman who had fallen down on the street in the eastern city of Nanjing. At the woman’s request, Peng helped take her to the hospital only to have the woman turn around and accuse him for being the person who knocked her down. A Nanjing judge then ruled that “common sense” suggested that Peng only took the woman to the hospital because he was guilty and ordered him to pay her medical expenses.
So now the media just may pick up the story so they can blame capitalism. After all, that’s what the Chinese are using to advance their wealth and reach around the globe.

I don’t believe for one second that she could not be seen by the two drivers. I think they just did not care. Seriously! I really think they did not care. I don’t think the first was going so fast he could not have stopped. And the second knew something was in the road and ran it over anyway. They are heartless and evil. The people who walked by are the same, heartless and evil. This is what the socialists/communists want to make us into. They want to make us only concerned with ourselves. Take a good look America. Then, that night I woke up from a nightmare about it, and I am the type of person that watches movies like “Saw” and other horror movies, and can be totally unaffected, laughing at my friends who get scared or sickened. Never has a video so angered, and upset me. I honestly wish I never watched it. I told my fiance about it, and warned him against watching it, and told him just to take my word for it, that it was terrible. I still want to cry when I think about it, and think about her spending a week on life support. As a nurse I can imagine fairly well what her injuries were. Then read about the woman who doesn’t know where her two month old baby is, who got black out drunk after putting the baby to bed. I really feel ashamed for the world at large.
