Chris Christie: ‘I Am Not A Fan of Same-Sex Marriage’

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spoke with David Gregory on Meet the Press this morning where he affirmed that he would not sign into law a Same-Sex Marriage bill like the one passed by Gov. Cuomo in New York this week.

In a short period of time Gov. Christie has amassed a standing on the national political scene equal to his lofty personal presence and view on executive political etiquette. The interview comes off his political victory this past Thursday night when the Democrat controlled State Assembly passed landmark cost cutting legislation to close the state’s massive budget gap due to pension and health benefit obligations for public employees.

In a state where both houses of government are controlled by Democrats and a GOP Presidential candidate has not smelled victory since 1988, Gov. Christie will sign a bill Tuesday to cut off automatic cost of living increases for public employees, end the union’s ability to bargain collectively for the their medical benefits, and increase public employees’ contributions to health care and pension plans. The bill is projected to save the state over $120 billion over the next 30 years, and save a middle class Gov. Chritie believes to be “suffocated” by taxes.

How did he do it? Town halls across the state to sell his plan and taking initiative to get leaders from across the aisle to sit with him in one room, in order to “put some skin in the game.” The product was a plan that required both sides to make some compromises yet maintain their political principles, saving the people of New Jersey big bucks. Gov. Christie said the same mindset could be used by President Obama to solve the debt limit stand off.

When asked about the President’s handling of Afghanistan, Gov. Christie could not comment for he is not inundated with the amount of briefings on the matter as Mr. Obama, but did say he is “not a nation building guy.” Gov. Christie avoided directly answering whether or not he would sign a national abortion pledge, but stated he considers him self Pro Life with exceptions in the case of rape, incest, or health of the mother.

Gov. Christie has repeatedly said he will not run for President in 2012, and in Sunday’s interview also stated that he “is not a VP kind of guy.”

    Isn’t Gov. Cuomo a Catholic?. If he is not excomunicated, you will see many flee the church. Marriage is
    one man one woman. The gays can have a civil ceremony but not a marriage. Who is the cardinal in
    New York? Either he stands up against this or he too should be fired by the pope.

    Isn’t Governor Cuomo a Catholic??? If the catholic church stays mum on this, their members will flee
    the church. Marriage is between one man and on woman. The gays can have a civil union, but not

      The Church was outmaneuvered and spoke out too late; there are a lot of those who profess to be Roman Catholic, even attending Mass, but they do not follow Church teachings. They are called cafeteria catholics. Cuomo will be judged by God and so will those who do not speak out against this sin because of PC (fear of what people will think). We are to love the homosexual, but not the sin. By the way, heterosexuals, who live together, are also sinning.

Oh, and Upstate NY, my sympathies for those of you against this as the Dems in NYC trumped you, yet again.     I too am not a fan of same-sex marriages. The people that support this are sick, have no morals, are perverted and will burn in H-E-L-L for their sins. I do not support gay private companies and if I find a gay business, I will not shop there and I will spread the word to others not to shop there. Gays are sick and need professional help…and they know it.

      Luckily there are no gay Baptists, because real Christians do not allow it. I interview 200 people a year and I always find out in a minute or two if they are Christian or something else like Atheist, Jew, Catholic, Muslim or Mormon.) A lot of times you can just tell if you ask them yo have coffee or bacon or donuts.

    Governor Christie is to be commended for staying the course and doing the right thing in New Jersey. He is a throwback in today’s political arena to a leader who walks the walk and talks the talk. As a friend says about a good boss, “he carries his own lunch bucket.” He backs his beliefs and principles up with action. The thing I like about him is that he comes across as someone who will sit down with you and try and work things out so that what comes out of it is best for all, including the next generation. I wish that I could say that this is the case in Washington D. C. today. I am afraid that we will be treated to more of the same in our nation’s capitol. I certainly wish Christie was running for president. We could sure use someone of his calibre in our nation’s capitol.

    What I don’t get is, is same sex marriage simply a legal thing? I certainly CAN’T be a Christian thing. So it won’t ever be thought of that way. Also, just because they passed it, does that mean people are going to be any less repulsed by it. I’m certainly not less repulsed. In fact, I’m more repulsed because gays seem even more radical in trying to shove it publicly in peoples faces.

      This has never been about marriage for gays. It has always been about forcing their behavior on the rest of society knowing the rest are repulsed by it. If they can “Look” equal in their eyes the rest of us must see the justification of it. I personally don’t care if gay marriage is legal or not, I will always know it is a sin and it is not up to me to change them. I will always be repulsed by the behavior but each person must choose. I will teach my children it is a sin and pray they are not swayed by society’s course. When it comes down to it, it is between you and your maker. In all things HE will ask us where we stood.

      That’s seriously disappointing. These so-called exceptions are exceedingly rare, but allow for the majority of abortions to happen because they can be twisted to allow for anything. “Health” can mean anything, even mental health, i.e., “If have to have this baby, I’ll lose my mind.”

      I’ve always been a “live and let live” type of person. I believe that way as long as your life choices don’t interfere or inhibit mine, or that of my children.

      Where I’ve drawn the line on the gay agenda, is when they started PUSHING it in our public schools to our children. IT’S NOT YOUR RIGHT!!!!!

      I agree I wouldn’t sign it into law but not because of me being for or against Same Sex Marriages. I wouldn‘t sign it into law because it’s a 10th amendment issue, I would allow the state congress to decide after the veto, or better yet put it at the polls and allow the people to vote on it. I just wish those dirtbags in Cali would’ve allowed that.

      I’m a Constitutional Moderate and happen to believe that something needs to be done with the health care system. I believe it should be State referendums and nowhere near the Federal Government.

      As for Perry and Romney? Perry is a moderate republican. In other words, a RINO. Romney is a full blown right wing Progressive, just like John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Scott Brown.

      Governor Christie promotes Gay and Lesbian “Civil Unions,” with full rights in NJ, just don’t call it marriage. (But – he DID say he would support a lesbian marrying a gay, that would be a 1-man 1-woman union which is OK with him; because it’s in the Bible.)
      Christie at lease holds 30 town hall meetings a year, where he is described as a bully, but he says that is what the voters want.

      I say – Go Obese in 2012, the Dems will have a hell of a time locating a savvy Fat Bully opponent!

      Christie will NOT consider Vice President, so we need to be thinking: Go Fat/Woman!, or Go Fat/Black!, or Go Fat/Fat!

      If you are a Constitutional conservative I think you will find Christie weak on the second amendment. I wish there were more conservatives who were consistent, like Ron Paul.

Yes, he payed the taxpayers back when he got called on it. But he didn’t show too much “executive political etiquette” in that case.

      Seriously guys, why you give a dang if two people of the same gender get married? Two people you don‘t even know and likely won’t ever see. Does that effect you in any way? Isn’t everyone “equal under the law?”

      Unfortunaly the broadcast in the Los Angeles Market Area was made unwatchable because the video and sound where not in sync. To bad I wanted her hear what Christy would say, but Chris Wallace got me. He would say “Thank You NBC for your incompetence”Keep it up

      JZS… we care because it contributes to the breakdown of our society. I have 3 children and I would like to see them handed over an America that’s better off than when it was handed over to us by our parents—-but that’s not going to happen because the breakdown of our society—which starts with the family, has been going on for years. So each generation that passes the torch, passes it off a little worse off than before. Homosexuality is so completely unnatural and yet our society has accepted it because we let it creep in little by little over time. What our society was appalled by 25 years ago is accepted as normal nowadays. THAT’S a breakdown of morals and values.

      Ectopic pregnancies are no joke. If you don’t allow people to abort them, the mothers WILL die. And the baby, too. Even pro-life doctors are for aborting abortions.

      It’s not a good thing, but it’s a necessary thing.
