Chris Matthews’ Guest: Bachmann’s ‘Inner Circle‘ Will Tell Her to ’Call it Quits’

The Huffington Post’s Howard Fineman revealed during an interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews that Michele Bachmann’s “inner circle is in the process of telling her it’s time for her to drop out.”

From Mediaite:

The cable networks are projecting that Bachmann will finish in 6th place ahead of Jon Huntsman.

“I think as the numbers are beginning to trickle in, I think reality is beginning to dawn on some of the candidates and one of them may be Michele Bachmann who put such a big effort in here. Could not get the full backing of the evangelical pastors in part because of her gender — her staffers are saying privately,” Fineman explained. “They don’t want to sound like they’re complaining but that’s part of it.”

“Some of them said so publicly. She is now about to be told by her inner circle that she should call it quits, and that conversation my understanding has not quite taken place yet but is about to take place. She is supposed to go to South Carolina tomorrow. She may or may not go but I think there is a very — I just know her top people are telling her or getting ready to tell her that it’s time for her to drop out.”

In the clip below, Matthews asked if Bachmann “might endorse Santorum?”

“I think she’ll wait on whatever she does. I do think her endorsement is valuable and that she has a passionate group of supporters. Other than Ron Paul, I would say the most personally passionate supporters of all the voters taking part in the caucuses tonight were Michele Bachmann ‘s — there just ended up not being very many of them.”

Watch Fineman’s interview below:

The Associated Press reports that Bachmann‘s campaign manager isn’t exuding much confidence on the future:

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Michele Bachmann‘s campaign manager says it’s hard to tell whether she will continue her campaign after a bleak showing in the Iowa caucuses.

Asked if he could say with certainty whether she would go forward with her candidacy, Bachmann campaign manager Keith Nahigian told The Associated Press, “I don’t know yet.”

He added, “It’s hard to tell, but everything is planned.”

Bachmann was in last place among six candidates in the nation’s first Republican presidential nominating contest Tuesday night. It was a sharp turn for the Minnesota congresswoman after finishing in first place during the Iowa GOP’s summer straw poll.

Santorum can whip the monkey in chief and first hogg. That’s not sayin much but Rick knows the ins and outs of DC and could actually “lead” our country according to the Constitution and not as a traitor in chief.

Evangelicals will vote for the conservative candidate in the end.
Independents might well prefer a candidate cast aside by the evangelicals….

Michelle could never give a speech like Santorum just gave. A great speech and no teleprompter. Rick represents small business and the working class. His message takes the best of the Tea Party and the OWS and reaches all Americans. He represents the 99 percenters and will make sure the 1 percenters can create jobs.

Does he walk on water too?

Rick also supports sending your tax dollars to Muslims in Saudi Arabia who hate Israel..

Rick Santorum will fall like a rock, just like Huckabee..

While there is a good chance that she will drop out at this point, just based on what happened tonight, I could make up the same story as the guy from HuffPo…Somehow I find it hard to believe that anyone associated to the Huffington Post has any inside ties to Bachmann’s campaign.

Bachmann is my first choice, Santorum is my second choice, there is no third choice for me. My prediction is …Santorum will now feel the wrath of attacks by everyone. His flaws will be highlighted and he will fade just like the other front-runners did. I‘m glad Michele is still in because it’s not over yet. She is still the best candidate available. Conservatives just don’t want a conservative woman to represent them. Regardless, she still have my vote on November 6, 2012..

Is the Tea Party gonna stay divided and let Romney win ? Michelle it is not about you. If you truly represent the Tea Party you will drop out and put your support behind Santorum. I am glad Newt is gonna hammer Romney. Newt will help Rick by doing so. Perry – time to drop out.

Time for other conservatives to pass their votes to Santorum. I can vote for him. I can’t vote for Romney. If Romney continues splitting the conservative vote the conservatives will get what they do not want as their nominee. I would call on the conservatives, if they really care for this country to back Santorum and step out.

I am hoping more folks will gracefully adjust their goals and pick Santorum as their guy as it seems that both Perry and Bachmann may be leaving the race soon. Santorum has the ability to tear up Obama on the stump trail and in the debates. I’d say Santorum is nearly as intelligent on the issues as Gingrich, but without all the baggage.
I was supporting Michelle Bachmann, in spirit as well as financially, but Santorum is an easy second choice for me.

I love Michelle. I hope she stays in because it gives her interview/tv time and her message is good. In fact, if you looked at everyone’s resume, omitted gender, religion and race, you would probably pick her or Romney. Thanks for running Michelle. You have my admiration! Maybe Mitt will put you in his cabinet.

Egads, Liberty- why are you wishing for Romneycare to win? (I’d get more profane about it, but this is an F rated site.)
There is absolutely no way Michelle should even consider a position with Romneycare- he‘s contra everything she espouses and to wish she’d accept something like that is to surrender her morals and her soul.

Bachmann blew it in the last debate when she appeared to be more of a warmonger than Hillary Clinton. She may as well have been McCain in 2008 singing “bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran”.

“…Could not get the full backing of the evangelical pastors in part because of her gender…”
Obviously these ‘evangelical pastors’ have never heard of Ruth or Deborah. When there isn’t a man with the gonies to do the job, God will send a woman to shame them- and Bachmann and Palin both have more balls than any of the men ‘running’ for the GOP nomination.
So these ‘pastors’ are obviously among the lukewarm.

Whatever you might think of Bachmann’s policy positions, she obviously managerially handicapped – she cannot keep her staff together, cannot keep them on-message, trusts people who should not be trusted, and generally sticks her foot in her mouth unnecessarily. Sorry, but she just isn’t chief executive material.

I completely agree. Without the Blaze links his viewers would number about as many as there are members of his family, but they can only watch half the time and then they throw up.
