Chris Matthews on GOP: Scary Wahhabis of American Government (VIDEO)There seems to be no shortage of outrageous, even vitriolic, comments coming from MSNBC’s Chris Matthew. The bombastic Hardball host who recently compared Kansas abortion regulations to racist “Jim Crowe” efforts is now comparing the GOP to violent Islamic “Wahhabis.” Wahhabism, of course, is the sect of Islam many jihadists identify themselves with.

But comparing the GOP to a radical cult composed of backwards “tribalists” is nothing new for Matthews and his rant on Tuesday’s episode of Hardball was no exception.

While discussing the debt ceiling vote, Matthews’ commentary degenerated into frenzied hyperbole yet again when he accused the GOP and “fanatical” Tea Party of wanting to “bring the whole country down.”

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Also, is the Republican Party willing to risk economic armageddon in the name of religion, that is the religion of no taxes? Well, the GOP has become the Wahhabis of American government, willing to risk bringing down the whole country in the service of their anti-tax ideology. This is no phony crisis. If you’re not careful, if we’re not careful, the country risks becoming Greece. Not ancient Greece, by the way, current Greece.

MATTHEWS: The Tea Party Republicans who are ready to bring down this country’s economy in the name of ideology. This is really getting serious, and I believe scary, what’s really being perpetrated here. Possibly, the defaulting of United States government on our debt in the world. The party‘s being driven by fanatics and they’re determined to bounce America’s savings bonds and have the United States begin to become like Greece.

    The amount of money this administration spent in 2 1/2 years already turn our country like Greece. So what is this man talking about. For more than 200 years combined no Presidency spent this kind of money in 2 1/2 years.

    Chris Mathews has the elitist view of the economy that most Dems have..I know best..even when it makes no sense..The reason Greece is in the predicament it is in is because they are a nanny state..The more they give the people the more they want..So now they will get it from Germany..The US has no one to get anything from..Unless of course you subscribe to the global currency theory..Americans would rather go it alone..and if that means pinchin a penny for now to save the country for our kids and grandkids..Then we better walk the walk..

    Chris is 100 percent correct in his statements. Quit whining about taxes, most of you got a Federal refund last year anyway. The only one associated with the Blaze who paid any federal taxes last year was Glenn Beck. Grow up people

      Getting a refund means you OVERPAID your taxes. A refund is the amount you get back AFTER you pay taxes. No wonder Democracts can’t see that a default is avoidable. Paying the interest on our loans first if the treasury was ordered to be the president would keep us from defaulting. Matthews just tossing out another red herring false premis. This is going to be a key talking point to ensure that they won’t be successful in diverting the blame if the POTUS allows a default to happen.

      Clearly, you don’t have a clue. The fact that a person got a “refund” is simply that he had more witheld from his paycheck than he ultimately owed in taxes. A “refund” means nothing except that you over-estimated your tax burden.

      Chris Matthews is a 100% fool… the Tea Party is simply a group of people who hate seeing the government grow like a black hole….sucking all available resources into its vortex.

      Obama puts up a “straw man” choice of tax incentives for corporate jet owners vs. education for kids… who on earth said that was the choice. How about these choices….education for our kids versus:

      1) 40 staff members for Michelle Obama
      2) vanity fly-overs for air-force-one over NY City.
      3) Obama family vacations in Europe
      4) $1 Trillion un-workable healthcare “reform”
      5) Financial reform package which has generated 100,000 pages of regulations and has employed legions of lawyers just to digest the new regs.

      When you are in a lifeboat full of holes, you don’t spend your time generating millions of pages of manuals, memos and regulations – you bail the boat.
      There is one thing that is common amongst the rich – they hate to waste money.

      And where did the govt get the money for your so-called refund. They taxed you, it was money you earned and does not belong to the govt. I worked for 40 years and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in fed taxes, while many of my fellow Americans sat on their butts and collected a check from the govt. I know at least 20 people who are collecting disability and working under the table. Now we are hell-bent on spending ourselves out of existence. What about the 40 or so percent of Americans who pay no taxes. Should not they have some ‘skin’ in the game? Let’s tax everyone at the same rate and do away with deductions. That tax would include all govt benefits. Then everyone has ‘skin’ in the game. Do you think tax increases would be supported then? More taxes = more govt = more spending.

      Almost half the people in this country do not pay any federal income tax. They are holding their hands out because the government has encouraged them to take, take, take. Everyone should have to be something and the people who make money should not have to support half of the population. This President is trying very hard to make this country a nanny state — the government will take care of you. The only problem is that instead of bringing the bottom up he is bringing the top down and there won’t be much of a middle class. It will be the rulers and the rest of us so you better watch what you wish for!

      One could surmise from your statement that you have access to everyone’s tax records. Well, your information is wrong. 50% of the population pay no taxes, that is fact. Those are the people that are voting to keep it that way. I pay taxes. Taxes are necessary, I get that. If taxes would go up, the spending would go up. When is it enough? When 90% of the people in America don’t pay anything? Who gets ownership of the problems then?

    Becoming greece? we are worse than greece. At least Greece doesnt have a central bank destroying the value of the currency. The entire idea of the Euro was to provide fiscal restraint (i.e. greece needed to pay its debt because they didnt have a bank that could print). They had the option to restructure. We default everyday on our debt through the Fed’s policy of debt monetization, The house of cards will fall soon and then there will be a whole bunch of fingerpointing. Just don’t forget the policies that got us in this mess
