Chris Matthews Sees More Racism: Gets Emotional While Describing How It ‘Won’t Go Away’

It must be difficult to be Chris Matthews. Seeing racism everywhere you turn, even in innocuous references to the city of Chicago, must be emotionally exhausting. What with all the outrage that particular viewpoint must require to be sustained, one imagines it’s almost enough to make a person break down in tears.

Which Matthews got quite close to doing yesterday on “Hardball,” as the MSNBC host’s voice broke while talking about the supposedly enduring legacy of racism in American politics/culture and plugging his upcoming special on Barack Obama being able to get elected seemingly despite it.

“Racism is the San Andreas fault of this country,” Matthews said. “People who dance on it, exploit it, enjoy it, risk widening that divide, opening it up back to where it was so recently. Nothing is simpler. Nothing is more primitive than to beat the drums of tribal grievance.”

And how were these drums beaten? While Matthews didn’t explicitly mention the word “Chicago,” he did rehearse a few familiar talking points.

“Welfare cheating, food stamp grabbing are all part of the lingo, along with the old calls for law and order and states rights and all the rest,” Matthews said. “Say what you want, the message is familiar, deeply redolent of the old demagoguery that stirs up the working white people against the black.”

It was right around this point that Matthews started to look emotional, as he described his favorite political photograph, showing a father and son saluting a train going by, carrying the corpse of Bobby Kennedy.

“That is the legacy of a great leader: uniting us with pride and love of this nation which holds so many of God’s good children,” Matthews said. “It’s a motto we should spend each election trying to match…”

Matthews’ voice broke. “Because it is the only alternative to the old, dirty shameful ploys who, every once in a while, show their ugly head,” he finished with tears in his eyes, as applause came from the crowd in the background.

And that all raises the question: With an upcoming special on Obama and race, does that explain Matthews seeing racism at every turn at the GOP convention?

      The only racism that exists is by liberals (PC commies) that are racists themselves. They want to give a free pass to blacks which is racist. They think blacks are inferior and need a “boost” to get ahead in society-which is racist thinking. Affirmative Action is racist because it says blacks can’t succeed on their own because they are inferior.

      Liberalism is a mental illness and this Chris Matthews is a prime example of a mentally ill individual. He gets “emotional” over something that really doesn’t even exist. Well actually it does exist, but it’s black racism against whites-like that white guy in Georgia who was almost killed by black thugs for dating a black woman. That kind of racism is A-OK in that Bolshevik Chris Matthews eyes. He is only scouting out “white racism” and turns a blind eye to black racism-and believe me it’s predominant. If you want to call people out on racism, then point it out in the black community and not just the white community. They do that to rile up the blacks against the whites.

      People are finally waking up to the commies and their tricks and BS propaganda trying to brainwash people. Bolshevism must be destroyed before it totally destroys the US.

    Food Stamps, welfare cheats, and let’s not forget golf, Chicago. In all these things the first thing that comes to Chris Matthew’s mind is African-American people. This says more about Chris than it does about the people saying these words. I believe he got that famous tingle down his leg because he thinks that African-Americans are incapable of giving good speeches and ruling this country, and it just surprised him that Obama could deliver a speech and get elected. It seems that Liberals cannot see past a person’s skin color. But Conservatives look at the person and see an American and they all have the same God given abilities and rights.

      Tried to watch one of the left’s news channels the other day,was curious about their coverage of the RNC, had to turn it off.It was like watching a low budget game show.Sharpton had folks commenting on Ryan’s speech,it was PATHETIC.

      Well given his superior grasp on the subject, I’m sure Mytheos can explain why such references were not heard under Bush or Clinton. And in fact it was Clinton who signed the Welfare to work law and the PRESIDENT who approved wavers for states like MA (waiver filed while Romney was Gov) which actually toughens the Welfare to work requirement. So while it is fun to exaggerate and demonize individuals like Matthews who you could not debate on your best day, you would be more productive and honest to point out the references and lies about Welfare which fuel racist attitudes.
      And it is one thing for people to dislike and question the record and policies of the PRESIDENT today. Please explain the birther, anti-american, communist, socialist, marxist labels that began before the PRESIDENT even took office. So they were based on what?

      It will never go away because of people like Chris Matthews. Even when times were good, he brought up race. The wound cannot heal if people like Matthews continually pick at the scab.       Say what you want about Matthews, Romney is running with the Southern Strategy: focus on getting white votes by appealing in a slightly less than overt way to their fears and bigotry. Fundamentally the Republicans have moved so far right their platform is rejected by most minorities.

    What Chris needs to do is get out of broadcasting and the TV business. He should get out and see what the real world is like.       @IMCHRISTIAN, I think your giving Chris a little too much credit, He knows exactly what he is doing, he is a trouble maker, he’s just like that old sourpuss aunt everbody has that just loves to stir up trouble in the family, things aren’t going his way so this is how he thinks he can help change history, by wringing out the old racist rag again, but at this point he just looks pathetic, but what really does he have to loose? Nothing, I would say if violence every breaks out, he has blood on his hands, will he ever be held accountable? No, he will just be grinning from behind the blinds, saying see. At this point his actions are shamefull. Blessed be the peacemakers, and he ain’t it. I do say we should pray for him and all his fellow trouble makers, that their hearts would soften and do try to be peacemakers. God bless Brother.

    That’s is true. As long as the left keeps bringing up the subject it will never go away. Liberals and lefties created the little boxes, as Ted Cruz called it, to divide Americans in “African-americans”, “Hispanic-Americans”, “Asian-Americans”, etc.

      The foreign spelling police are now on the scene. Please take notes, there will be a quiz. :-)

      The word is German and is properly spelled über. The umlaut (the 2 dots above the u) is sounded by rounding the lips like pronouncing the oo in mood but vocalizing a long e like ee in feet (also very similiar sounding to the Danish ø). The sound does not occur in regular English so is a bit awkward to say correctly at first.

      The spelling ueber is, however, allowed for speed in typing on non-German keyboards instead of using alt+0252 each time the letter is required. The pronunciation is still the same, with the u and e being sounded as 1 syllable.
