Chris Matthews Slams ‘Ditto-head Thinking’ of Limbaugh Fans After Lauding Fox News and the WSJ

Chris Matthews, host of the show Hardball on MSNBC, was recently asked at the National Press Club whether he believed shows like his are “partially responsible for the lack of civility in our political discourse.”
Shaking his head and saying, “no, no” before Theresa Werner even finished asking the question, Matthews responded: “not at all, I think it gets it off your chest!” before giving himself a sharp laugh.

As though to prove how un-biased he is, Matthews then told the audience: “I say, take a look at Fox once in a while. If you don’t like it, take a look at it. Make sure you don’t like it. In fact, maybe you won’t.”
“The days of Walter Cronkite are over,” he declared. Americans can no longer exclusively get their news from a seemingly unbiased reporter known as the most trusted man in America…but almost immediately thereafter he admits: “[Cronkite] had a point of view, and we all knew his point of view. He was a liberal, the whole time he was on television…”
And what were his thoughts on Rush Limbaugh, who calls himself America’s real anchorman?
Matthews proved how open-minded and reasonable he was by encouraging people to formulate their own opinions, before deriding: “I do think there is some ‘Ditto-head’ thinking because in this country, people listen to Limbaugh, it’s all they listen to…”

And what did Matthews have to say of his own show?
“Every fact must come from a quality newspaper like the Post or the Times or,” he added, “the Journal…It may come from AP but I don’t want to hear it came from anywhere else, really.”
Which begs the question– is Matthews purposefully isolating Limbaugh in conceding the merits of Fox News and the Wall Street Journal, or is he just jealous that Limbaugh has tens of millions of viewers to his hundreds of thousands?

Posted on June 5, 2012 at 6:48pmWell one thing’s for certain Chris and/or Barack don’t send a tingle up my leg. While I’ve seen, or heard Chris a couple of times in passing, I don’t watch his show. I have been told by, people in the know, that his breath generally stinks. That’s way more than I can handle! He hosted the Limbaugh program once, I believe. If it weren’t for the Lamestream media, who’d be paying attention to Chis or Barack. Sometimes, and especially where Chris is concerned, to much information is a bad thing. The only reason he‘s getting any press is because he’s making nasty about Limbaugh’s listeners. I‘d like to know what good that’s going to do, except maybe get Chris some attention. I‘d guess that’s a good thing. I’m to understand that his program has all of about 10 listeners, 6 of which may be diehard fans. He probably thinks he might pick up another 2 or 3 fans from his comments.

And what Chris Mathews doesn’t get, or tries to spin differently, is that Ditto was created because callers were so frequently stating that Rush was the first guy they’d heard espousing their viewpoint. Not the reverse.

The term came about because a caller once hoped that Rush’s show would never end and the next caller seconded the sentiment by saying “Ditto” to that idea. In the many years that I have listen to the show, Rush has only explained the source of “Ditto-head” a couple of times. It is a common misconception.

It became screaming matches, redirecting off topic and spouting talking points. From personal experience, if news or entertainment makes you want to throw your TV out the window, it is time to stop watching.

While TPers get beat up, pro-life old ladies get their homes firebombed O’Reilly plays that game w/ the am crew w/ ? like Who played the mom on Leave It To Beaver. Also folks do come here, to Breitbart, Hotair, etc for news & hot videos that you’ll never see on Fox. As to radio Limabugh’s audience has plunged in many markets and 33% last year. Hannity‘s Arbitron’s was a huge 28% drop last time released.

Even while he was still the lead reporter on CBS, anyone who was paying attention, saw a liberal slant when it came to his editing of the evening news. What made it obvious, was not what he reported, but as is still done, what is NOT reported on the libersl news networks.
