Chris Matthews Strikes Again: Makes Reporter Ask Condi Rice About Birthers

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews has made it clear his goal this election fall: He will be the one trying to remind everyone that birthers exist within the Republican party  (despite the fact that it was a theory introduced by Hilary Clinton in 2008). And it seems he will go to great lengths to do it. Take this interview with Condoleeza Rice on Wednesday.

After Rice wowed the crowed with a sans-teleprompter speech, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell scored an interview with her. During it, Matthews seemed unhappy with the questions and at one point awkwardly (and to the seeming frustration of Mitchell) interrupted Mitchell to interject a question about — birtherism.

“Andrea, Andrea, can I ask a question?” he asked. “It’s Chris Matthews. Could you ask the Secretary — her speech was so overwhelmingly positive — but was it kind of a rejoinder to all the birtherism and the narrowness she’s heard in their party?”

Mitchell then repeated the question, but only after Rice gave a puzzled look during the period of silence.

“Well, I think on both sides of the aisle, quite frankly, we’re hearing some voices for America to pull back,” Rice responded. “It would be a shame if America pulls back, because we’ve done so much good in the world. … That was the theme of the speech, and I had a great audience. It was well received.”

Later she added:

“The birther movement is an extreme. There are extremes on both sides of the political spectrum. The great majority here believe that we are one America.”

On Monday, Matthews drew the ire of many for his rude interaction with GOP party Chairman Reince Priebus. That scuffle was also over Matthews waving the birther flag, accusing Priebus of the “foreignization” of Obama. Priebus eventually fired back with some shots at Matthews and said an MSNBC representative was trying to smooth over Matthews’s actions.

      Similar to Jonathan you attempt to smear the Matthews comes through as a blatant lie given the very recent resurgence of birtherism with Trump and the support for the AZ. Sheriff who continues to waste taxpayer money. So how’s about focusing on the reality of how many Republicans still question his birth, because their agenda is to paint the PRESIDENT as not being an American. Its about as honest and reasonable as a boarder patrol agent stopping an American Indian coming across the boarder as being an illegal alien. But I understand the attempt here to now create distance from a lie that has served its purpose as there is no need to further delude the base.

      You are right, JROOK. How dare anyone simply state what Matthews does in an attempt to smear him. That was a completely legitimate question to ask someone who is not an elected official and has never given a moment’s credibility to that very odd claim that Hillary Clinton made in 2008.

      JCROOK, First, the Arpaio investigation is being done with “ALL” donated funds. No taxpayer funding has gone into this. Even thought he is working on a legitimate complaint made to the Sheriff’s office in actual accordance with state law. Most of the investigation is being conducted by retired LE personnel doing volunteer work. But, when county deputies have had to be used, their salary during those times where refunded. Do some research before you make up this kind of BS. Oh, I forgot. You are part of the Dem-wit party that only uses other people’s money to do your dirty deeds. Sort of difficult to see something happening without taxpayer money, now isn’t it?
      As for the remainder of your accusations, just how many RNC speakers have taken the stage to as you say, paint the PRESIDENT as not being an American? Please, enlighten us on that. I have yet to see or hear any of them do that. In fact, the president has hardly had a mention at all through out the whole convention. Oh yeah, those of us in the base are just sooooooooo deluded…LOL! Who is delusional here?

      Come on JCROOK…you‘re defending Matthews’ desperation now? He had a black woman in front of him who hit her speech out of the ball park….he couldnt’ use his now all too familiar “race dog- whistle“ line on a black woman so he reached hard and pulled ”birther” out of his thrilled upper leg. Condi Rice..being a far more adroit thinker than Matthews can ever hope to be, answered with the class and shrewdness we’re accustomed to seeing from her. This is the same women who got Abbas and Israelis to the negotiation table while Hamas’ rockets were raining on Israel.
      You remember class don’t you JCROOK? It‘s something we valued before Obama decided he’d like to take pictures of himself saluting our honored fallen at Dover (against the wishes of the families) then posting that picture as “photo of the day” on the white house website.

      This is for CROOK, I am a Republican and I question the birth place of one Achmed Aqbar Obama. I question his authenticity, his fidelity, and his credibility. If you wish to play patsy for him, then announce yourself as his goat and lay your fantasies on us. Until then, I doubt if he is an American. He certainly doesn’t behave like an American, and doesn’t seem to have the best interests of the vastness of American citizens.

      @Ralphmalph6, in regards to your suggestion we ship Matthews off to some island….I think it’s a great idea but one small change, instead of “no” media, I think we should give him (or better yet, “pipe in”) nothing but FOX news and then make so he has no choice but to hear it. Like put some speakers up, out of his reach, that only “receive” FOX and cannot be powered down. Then play FOX news 24/7.

    One has to wonder why Chris Matthews is still employed. For that matter, why are any of the so-called MSNBC “superstars” still employed? I turned the TV to MSNBC right at the conclusion of Paul Ryan’s speech last night just in time to hear one of their commentatore tell Sharpton and Maddow that Ryan had delivered a “well written and expertly delivered speech deviod of substance!!” That will be the only 2 minute I watch MSNBC this year!

    I don’t know where 0bama was born and I seriously doubt 0bama knows but people who think he was born in Kenya have a right to state their case and not worry about what the likes of Chris Matthews says about it.

    For the record, I think it is very possible that little Barry was born in or around Seattle Washington. That seems to be where his mother went when she came back from Kenya.

    SO Chris believes that the GOP is full of brtherism and narrowness and the DNC has the cleanest hand in the world. Not that one of their leaders was a murderer, or that one of their favorate congressman was opertaing a sex service from his basement, ot that another one hid bribe money in his freezer, or several missused taxpayer money and are still in congress. That does not mean that Repaublican congressional members don’t have dirty hands. The birther issue won’t go away because Obama hides his background. Was he enrolled as a foriegn student? won’t release his grades, won’t allow personal questions. How many passports does he have?

    The liberals have nothing else they can do at this point other than namecall. The only people cheering on his line of questioning is the ******** like himself. The American voters want more substance. I do hope those on the fence can see the difference between what the one side wishes to discuss and what the other side wishes to discuss because then it is in the bag for Romney. The country is in trouble and talking about birthers, women’s contraceptives, etc. is NOT what is necessary. Keep it up Chris Matthews because you are making an a$$ of yourself.
