Chris Matthews Admits: The National Media ‘Leans a Little to the Left’

The national media “leans a little to the left,” MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Friday, a potential watershed admission from one of the network’s liberal hosts.
The “Hardball” host — who famously declared in 2008 he “felt this thrill going up my leg” when hearing then-Sen. Barack Obama speak — tucked the brief statement into a discussion about GOP contender Mitt Romney’s strategy in Iowa with John Heilemann of New York Magazine.
When Heilemann said Romney campaigning in Iowa would invite the media narrative of “Is Mitt Romney making the same mistake as he made in 2008 when he tried to do the same strategy – win Iowa, win New Hampshire, put the race away?,” Matthews agreed.
“And that’s what we call a dynamic. He goes in there and says, ‘I’m running, I can win,’ and because we know he doesn’t take chances, the national media — which leans a little to the left, I could argue — could smash him,” he said.

Matthews has recently been critical of Obama, including deriding his advisers as the “little kids with propellers on their heads” in an interview last week.

If there was a way to measure the physical pressure of all of the MSM stations reporting left and then countermeasure Fox News reporting right, I do believe that Fox would drag the MSM over the centerline as if they were in a tug of war! Fox is so blatantly right, in your face right, while the MSM is usually fairly objective when not leaning slightly left….

And YCLA is not exactly a conservative university. The professor said it is not that the media lies, it just selectively covers stories. It is the stories that the media ignors that contributed to the findings. The study found the most balanced reporting is done by the Drudge Report.

I remember Zell Miller challenging him to a duel during a live interview after his speech at the 1974 Republican Convention. News organizations are profit driven and have no other goal than enlarge their audience. President Obama isn’t about to give them a penny, let alone the billions in subsidies the oil industry is getting. They present news and opinion in a way they think will appeal to the most Americans. Most of these “main stream media” outlets have journalistic standards that aren’t present at FOX, and don’t present opinion in the form of straight news as FOX does.
But do they try to increase ratings by appealing to the average viewer? Sure they do! This is America for goodness sakes. We are a capitalistic country! Are you against the media making a buck?

The fact that he has recently made some statements tottally out of character makes me think that the plan to shut FOX down is forging ahead. I believe that is why FOX has toned things down somewhat. The left-leaning media actually coordinates their messaging to create an echo chamber effect that makes it seem far more moderate than it actually is. Repetition is not the same as moderation. And Fox, I admit, is on the right side of things, but I think that the infusion of entertainment into their presentation makes their analysis appear more skewed than it is. You often see fair fights on Fox when it comes to politics, rarely so on other channels.
