Christian Therapist May Be Fired for Prayers to ‘Convert’ Gay Patient

A veteran psychotherapist in the UK is facing possible termination after trying to “convert” a homosexual patient by “praying to God” to “heal” the patient.
“I told him I only work using a Christian biblical framework and he said that was exactly what he wanted,” Lesley Pilkington said, referring to her patient.
What Pilkington didn’t know was that her patient was actually a homosexual rights campaigner who secretly recorded their sessions before reporting her to the British Association for Counseling and Psychotherapy. Now, Pilkington is being called for a disciplinary hearing this week where she may be stripped of her accreditation.
The Daily Mail reports:
She treated journalist Patrick Strudwick at her private practice based at her home in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, after he approached her at a Christian conference.
He recorded the sessions on a tape machine strapped to his stomach. Asked if she viewed homosexuality as a ‘mental illness, an addiction or an anit-religious phenomenon’, she replied: ‘It is all of that’.
In the disciplinary letter sent to her by BACP, she is accused of having an ‘agenda that homosexuality is wrong and that gay people can change and you allegedly attempted to inflict these views on him.’
Mrs Pilkington accused Strudwick of entrapment. She said: ‘He told me was looking for a treatment for being gay.’
Mrs Pilkington’s own 29-year-old son is gay, but she simply describes him as having a “homosexual problem.”
Pilkington says her method — Sexual Orientation Change Efforts — is legitimate and effective. But her counseling has been described as “absurd” and the Royal College of Psychiatrists reported condemned the “so-called treatments of homosexuality,” claiming it merely extended prejudice.

Furthermore, do not label me from the right! I am not a “conservative or liberal.” I also believe that the government has no right to issue a marriage license to anyone because it is indeed a religious ceremony as history has proven this and already has! In this way Christians would not be allowed from keeping homosexuals from marrying, and homosexuals would not be able to haul Christians into state-sponsored tyrannical courts for not marrying them! There, homosexuals can marry! How do you like that? Furthermore, I believe it is the right of the people in each local community to have the right whether they want to tolerate such perversion! It is called a local ordinance! In this way you could have your very own homosexual communities without any interference and if people do not like they can move to a place more family friendly and vice versa!

What we know is it is a combination of nature and nurture. What we need to do is eliminate the shame for a feeling that is not asked for. Then we can love and give help and yes, they can live a “straight” lifestyle if underlying issues are resolved.

Rather than provide the service of a therapist, she is acting as a religious counselor. In the UK, the service of a therapist can be billed to insurance whereas religious counseling is not. IF she is providing one service but billing another then she is committing fraud. The issue is rightfully being investigated.
Unless a court ruling says otherwise, (which is a real possibilty as a term of probation should this case go that far) she will still be able to work as a religious counselor.

The mother of the family suffers from numerous mental disorders because of sexual abuse she suffered as a child. She in turn physically and sexually abused most of her children. As a result three of the boys are bisexual, one is homosexual, two are heterosexual men who view women as sex objects and the last suffers from sever depression. The three girls all suffer from eating disorders or PTSD. Even if you are born with something that is genetical, like diabetes or alcoholism, that does not make it normal. Who would want to live a life as a diseased drug addict; but, millions of people choose to do that.

If they want to try to live as a heterosexual, they will help them do it. If they want help with living a homosexual lifestyle and being happy, they will help with that.

She practices in her home, is a Christian and doesn’t hide that fact. If a homosexual comes to a Christian therapist, they ought to expect Christian views. Simple as that.

He went to the therapist who offered to heal him with prayer. The gay person chose to go along with it. That is not entrapment. Posted on January 17, 2011 at 9:52amBefore anyone tries to throw up their quick internet research articles claiming to show how the “gay” gene could be advantageous and therefore persist in the gene pool, they better also research some of the peer review articles of those fabled reports to see just how flawed those studies were. Believe me if any reputable scientific data proved the presence of a “gay” gene or its ability to persist in the gene pool and therefore increase in frequency it would be touted on every news outlet worldwide. But it hasn‘t because there isn’t any reputable study showing this to be the case. Also, pointing to animals instinctual and impulsive behaviors does NOT prove anything about human behavior and what is natural….I could point to all kinds of animals that eat their young, or their mate, etc….and if human beings did this its obvious what the consequences would be….we are separate and higher from the animals because we are not (most of the time) governed by simple instinct or impulse. So even if this could be shown to be the case in the animal world (which it has not), it still would not legitimize this behavior in humans. Last point, male lions do essentially nothing but mate and eat and occasionally protect the pride from intruders and other males, leaving the work of feeding the young, hunting and other duties to the females of the pride…..I guarantee if human males did the same thing women would be up in arms…as they should be. And pointing to the lions behavior would not justify that behavior in human beings to any woman.

A person from a rich family is gay, A person from a poor family, a middle family, a white, a black, a jew, an asian, etc etc , all are gay. It is not something being done by the family in raising said child.
And it is not a choice they make. Why would anyone choose to be treated the way gays are treated by choice? It is not a mental issue, except the mental anguish caused by their treatment by society.

That is exactly what i thought when i read this. I don’t see how this is bad. No one is forcing people to go to this therapist, but because of the CHRISTIAN title she is under attack. She’ll probably be stripped of her title, but I hope she continues to help people.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard!!! Gene/chromosome? If it was gene linked it would be diminishing from the gene pool not becoming more prevalent as we glorify it as a society. Granted there are some gay people who reproduce by way of heterosexual activity, I understand that. However, for the most part a true homosexual does not reproduce yet it seems to be a growing fad. Just as a gene linked to sterility would not survive neither would a homosexual gene. Its presence would diminish and basically die out within several generations. However homosexuality seems to rise with the “social acceptance” as some sort of fad. The more it’s legitimacy is pushed though TV and Liberal agenda the more people seem to get this “gene”

Even if I believe they sin, it’s their sin, not mine and who am I to judge. Frankly it’s none of my business. However, if this man went to this therapist pretending that he didn’t want to be gay and wanted his help, then all bets are off. She did nothing to hide who she is or what she believes. This young man did. Knowing what he knew about her ahead of time, did he expect something different? It’s not like she was knocking young men unconcious outside of a gay bar and dragging them to a re-education camp. If she’s a hard nose about her son, that’s between them and she will be the loser.
