Christian University Cancels George W. Bush Speech Amid Student & Faculty Protests

An upcoming appearance by President George W. Bush at a Toronto, Canada, university has been cancelled following protests by students and faculty, alike.
The evangelical Christian college, which initially scheduled Bush to speak at the September 20 invite-only breakfast at Tyndale University, will apparently not be rescheduling.
The former U.S. president initially was set to address a group of about 150 people. But curent and former students and at least two staff members, outraged at the prospect of a Bush campus visit, made a major ruckus.
On Wednesday — the same day the decision to cancel the president’s appearance was made — three former students put together a petition urging Tyndale to cancel his address. The day before, a class valedictorian joined a professor to speak out against Bush’s breakfast talk and another staff member resigned out of protest.
Some dubbed Bush a “war criminal,” while others held that the event was being planned as a ploy to attract money to the school. TheStar.com reports:
Tyndale supporter Prem Watsa, chief executive of Fairfax Financial Holdings and sometimes referred to as “Canada’s Warren Buffett,” was sponsoring the event, which the administration said was intended to raise the university’s profile.

Source: TheStar.com
In invoking the name of Jesus, a poster protesting the event reads:
“…no amount of new money can justify profiting from a former figurehead whose policies led to the murder of thousands of innocent civilians while invoking the name of Jesus. This is unacceptable.”
In a public statement, the university wrote the following announcement on its web site: “Unfortunately, due to scheduling change, the breakfast on September 20th 2011 has been cancelled.” This brief response neither mentions Bush’s name nor does it provide more information on a potential event reschedule.
Just two days before the event’s cancellation, Tyndale University President Gary Nelson admitted that Bush’s appearance would come with debate. Still he defended the event, saying:
“We’re a university that tries to present all sides and be open to different opinions. One of the big issues we have in the 21st century is the inability to dialogue, from one side or the other. So if we can’t do that here, we’re in trouble. Dialogue is critical right now.”
Regardless of the reasons, diverse debate and opinion isn‘t on the university’s schedule this go-around.

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 7:02pmGeorge Bush is a Nationalist Progressive – big government, nanny state, legislate morality, spread your beliefs to the world via war if necessary.
So what? He’s not Ahmadinejad, but his policies got American soldiers killed trying to cram “democracy” down the throats of Islamo-fascists. Until I educated myself, I was taken in by his B.S. for a while. It wasn’t until his second term that I woke up and began to realize the problem.
I think a lot of Conservatives see National Progressives and mistake their patriotism for Conservatism. It’s not. Just like Obama, Bush wants one-world governance. He just wants America to be in charge as opposed to the U.N.
This is a mildly interesting story, but it’s nothing to write your Congressman (or Canadia’s) about, eh.

Any Christian, worth his salt, knows that the Commandment that speaks to this subject, .ie “Thou shall not kill”, is poorly translated into english. A literal translation should be, “Do not murder”, .ie cold blooded murder. It says NOTHING about killing, in general, or war and has nothing to do with war. As long as there are sinners on this earth, (and we are ALL sinners, everyday of our lives) there WILL be war. Remember, we are all fallen, saved or not, that is history, just as our redemption, history.

Rose ellen, I normally do not acknowledge Trolls in any way. You however, I do not know who or
what you are and doubt your validity. If indeed you are in this Great Country legally or illegally it is
a crying shame that you get to enjoy the freedoms that our fine young Soldiers fight so valiantly to
preserve. You really should be in Iran with your like minded people so you could be told what you
could say which would be “nothing” because you would not enjoy the freedoms of the USA.
You seem to hate everything about this Country and what it stands for. We only know this because many people have fought and died for your right to say them.Of course we also know you only spew
this venom under the guise of anonymity.
This will be my one and only time to address you because you are probably being paid to espouse this filth, simply to get a rise out of some one like you have just done to me.
I wish however I could be the one to escort you out of this Great Country and into the arms of the
Iranian Regime.
As I said I doubt your validity but the simple fact you would say the things on this site whether you believe them or not or simply getting paid to say them make you one despicable piece of human waste.
It is a shame they will miss the opportunity to hear a Great man speak.

How many caravans did Jesus attack and destroy? And moHAMed?
How many tribes did Jesus attack, kill all the men, sell the children into slavery and rape the women? And moHAMed?
How many 9 year old children did Jesus marry and violate? And moHAMed?
Surely Mecca Rose someone even as ignorant as you can see that moHAMed was nothing more than a murdering, raping, enslaving pedophile and a probable practicer of bestiality and that Islam is nothing more than a cult of murdering, raping, enslaving pedophiles happy to emulate that dog-dung pile known as moHAMed.
Next, I would suggest that Muslims have killed more Muslims than any Christians or other ideology has. Iran and Iraq in the 1980s as just one small example comes to mind.
Third, Arab slavers enslaved more black Africans than European slavers ever did and I am apalled that all the black folk who have them bear their Arab slave names proudly in their ignorance.
But that is just for starters Mecca Rose. The Arab spring is a genocidal paroxysm of a stagnant culture, lacking in morality, steeped in deserved self hate, capable only of theft and fraud. It is no wonder that the Foreign Dictator wants NASA to concentrate on making the Muslims feel good about themselves. Now due to Canadian political correctness another opinion and one coming from a president of the United States on the specifics of his positions and actions in freeing millions of Iraqis and Afghans from the tyranny of brutal dictators. By blocking Pres. George W. Bush in essence is a form of blatant censorship and instilling the will of a small majority of the college campus into the rights of the people on the campus who wish to be informed and educated as to the topics to be presented. Posted on September 16, 2011 at 4:48pmWell, actually, Iraq (under Saddam) never had anything to do with 9/11, or any events in which a large number of U.S. civilians died. That’s probably the “the murder of thousands of innocent civilians while invoking the name of Jesus” they were referring too.

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 4:37pmCanadians have been brain-washed by their very liberal press and most students have been taught that Bush is the evil perpetrator of war. As a Canadian by birth and having lived there half of my life, and now living the US, I feel the right to say what I think. Unfortunately, many in Canada are “cowed” by the liberal thought police and the truth has taken a back seat to political correctness.

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 4:31pmThat’s Canadians for you. They are full of crap when it comes to reality. These are the idiots who threw a fit over Ann Coulter, not the same school, but the same mindset. They will allow communists to come and spew, but nope, not Bush. I am angry with Bush for MANY of his actions, but I do believe history will treat him kinder than the manufactured frenzy intentionally whipped up by the left to ensure a “fundamental transformation” of the U.S. You would think some of these people who foam at the mouth over Bush while ignoring current events would finally wake up and see they have been overplayed. Didn’t the left tell them they would prosecute Bush and Cheney? In fact, when they want to keep their minds off of drastic legislation that should it be found out actually DOES NOT benefit them, the left reminds them and talks about it for a few days, gets them all riled up and seething, and does nothing. So…lesson for the leftist goons, stop being tools and useful idiots. As for Canada, let them keep destroying themselves. They are halfway there.

Posted on September 16, 2011 at 4:57pmAnn Coulter is an inflammatory hateful person who doesn’t give a **** about anything but money and selling her latest book. I doubt she even cares about conservatism, except for how much money she can milk from it’s followers. One of her books (the latest one I think) out-and-out calls liberals “demonic”–it’s central premise is that “liberalness” is the result of “demonic” “groupthink.” If that‘s not the most childish and absolutist analysis I’ve ever heard, then I don’t know what is–yes, Ann, liberals are liberals not because, like conservatives, they believe the ideals of liberalism are valid and lead to the best outcome given their observations, but because they are an evil demon possessed group of people who pick positions on the basis of popularity (which isn’t even a consistently true thesis to base a book off of–liberals take the minority position all the time, like on religion and religious minorities for example). I had always thought that people usually tried, even if they were unsuccessful, to think about policy logically and how how best to achieve the greatest good for the greatest number–and that politics was essentially a battle over the means best to achieve this (obviously there will always be SOME disingenuous people who truly are working towards some selfish goal at the expense of others, but usually they somehow justify this to themselves–no one thinks of themselves as evil), but apparently it’s a cosmic war between good and evil.

Here’s a link to an article about a study at Emory University that says that both Democrats and Republicans turn off the “logical” function of their brains, and reason is overwhelmed by emotion.
http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-01/euhs-esl012406.php
It says that appeals to reason don’t work with partisans; they’re governed not by reason but by emotion.
