Christie: Be Very Leery of Sending Another Member of Congress to the White House

AP

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday warned an Illinois crowd to be “very leery” of “sending another member of Congress to the White House.”

Christie’s words were a not-so-subtle shot at the Republican rivals of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — all three of whom are current or past members of Congress — and a way of equating them with President Barack Obama, who was a U.S. senator before getting elected.

“In our Republican primary, let’s be very leery, very wary of sending another member of Congress to the White House,” Christie said according to ABC News. “Now see members of Congress they can be okay, but they don’t know the first thing most of the time about using executive authority. They don’t know the first thing about getting things done.”

He continued, “We don’t need Ron Paul, we don’t need Newt Gingrich, and we don’t need Rick Santorum. We need an executive. We need Mitt Romney in the White House.”

Christie, who has been a strong defender of Romney’s on the campaign trail, praised his success: “He didn’t just create wealth for himself. He did what American entrepreneurs have done better than any entrepreneurs around the world in the history of the world. He created wealth for himself and he created wealth for lots of other people.”

He also took a shot at Obama’s community organizer past.

“Do we really want a failure in the White House?” Christie asked. “Let me just tell you this, here’s one set of people I don’t think belong in the White House anymore – community organizers.”

The Illinois primary will be held Tuesday. Polls show Romney leading Santorum by 9 points in one survey and by 6 points in another.

Santorum later brushed off Christie’s remarks when speaking to reporters, according to the Tribune Washington Bureau.

“That’s funny, you know, if that’s their best argument for voting for Mitt Romney,” Santorum said, adding that Romney “has no experience in international and national security affairs.”

Maybe you didn’t understand what Christie was saying?
HE IS SAYING NOT TO SEND ANOTHER POLITICIAN (per se) to the WH. I think he means the current candidates OR THOSE WHO ARE CAREER POLITICIANS. THEY ARE ALL LYING POLITICIANS. They will tell you what you want to hear, then do what they want.

Christie, Christie, Christie. YOU SEALED YOUR FATE WITH ME.

We do NOT need another liberal in the WH!

How much money did he spend in 2008 hoping to become president – $200Million?? anyone who is willing to spend that kind of money and say all the dumb stuff (2012) that he has said – is unfit to become president

Chris is spot-on. Santorum is a career politician – that’s all he knows. Gingrich is worse because he’s also got the moniker of “academic” tied into this career – it can’t get any worse than that.

Romney is a RINO, no doubt, but he’s a better option than Santorum or Gingrich; although he certainly pales in comparison to what Palin would accomplish if people on our side had enough vision to see past their noses.

I agree that we should not send just any Congressman to the White House, we need to send a Congressman that does not act like all the other Congressmen that adhere to lobbyists. Ron Paul is that Congressman. He is not an establishment hack that would further the establishment plans. He will do everything he can to give the power back to the people.

Laughable at best to say Romney is not a career politician. Lets see, dad was a governor and ran for President, he too was a governor and we know he has been running for president for at least 6 years….now we are supposed to suspend all belief of reality? Christie too is a RINO in many ways…he may be fiscally conservative, but socially might as well be married to a Kennedy. OH – kind of sound like the supposed only “electable” frontrunner.
He may shoot his mouth off at union libs and draw applause, but watch the other hand.

@Allegator Baby Really? You actually think Santorum would prevent women getting contraceptives? All you do is grasp on to the left wing propaganda and then turn around and spew it as if it were true. I’ve followed Santorum for years and until the progressive liberal machine started their propaganda campaign about “Contraceptives???” (WTF?)……..I never heard Santorum say 1 word about this “MANUFACTURED” issue. Grow up…..women can get and have been able to get since the 1960′s….any form of contraceptives they prefer. When you mature and gain “Rational” you will realize that just because you say something over and over…..doesn’t make it fact. Check your facts and you‘ll find NOTHING in Santorums history that indicates he’s going to pull the plug on your ability to prevent getting pregnant in a myriad of ways, one might include abstinence.

I believe he is right, I would be very prudent when voting! It seems as though we have people running who are very rich and could really care less about the average American person. It’s about ear marks, fame and greed! Not to mention the worldly corporations that exist with our high price of living standards! Some of the companies are so cheap that they pay people even much less than what the industry is worth and not only that, make them work the duties of other positions!

@SOYBEAN – And you are delusional. Santorum is never going to catch up to Romney’s delegate count. Especially since the primaries are moving out of the South and out of the Bible belt. If you look at the primaries coming up, there are some states that will split pretty evenly between Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum. Even with 30% of the delegates from these states, and the majority that Romney will will in more moderate states, he will get the required delegates before the convention.

Take a look at the tracker on this website. This is the best barometer of what is happening in the primaries. Not whether someone wins a state.

I am not much on Political correctness, so if what I say is found to be offensive get over it. Our Country is headed for disaster beyond our wildest dreams. 49% pay no taxes, 32% get back more than they pay in and 48 Million Americans are on some type of government subsidies, all while the Elites try to figure out a way for the middle class to pay for their short falls. Our so-called leaders throw money around like drunken sailors, and for what, the almighty VOTE. These Political hacks have used our schools to brain wash students into believing the government is the answer, and society built on so-called Social values is the dream to prosperity. When will the people wake-up and realize the day of reckoning is fast approaching and your government is the gate keeper to the Hell so desired. The candidates who travel the country side, kissing the babies and filling the airwaves with broken promises are no more than a replacement to the corruption that already exist. Our young men and women fight in wars orchestrated by power, and then die over a book which many claim some prophet with all the virgins will save the world. Mean while the puppet who is suppose to be the Leader of the Free World, throws more money at the corruption while apologizing in the shadows to his brotherhood. I know this probably tweaks some panties, but really I don’t much care. These United States were built on the principles of Freedom to all men, not just the few deemed fit by the ruler at the time.

I worked at a network operations center for a large bank for a few years. During that time I talked to folks from all over the world and in every state in the USA. I can tell you unequivocally that the people in New Jersey are some of the stupidest people on the planet. Many of them asked me “how do I know you are not trying to rip me off? “. No kidding. And all I was trying to do was fix their fricking network.

I hope no one is stupid enough to believe the reason Obama is because he was in congress for a few months!!! Santorum and Obama are almost complete opposites!! I voted for Rick before he was declared the winner in Iowa. I hope he gets the nomination. I‘m sure he’ll win against Obama.

Oh, yeah, Christie, and ex-governors always make the best presidents ( anyone remember Jimmy Carter? ).
Romney may have executive experience but he is way too moderate to make the kind of cuts needed to save our economy.

Let’s see, there was also, Bush, a lot better than this guy, and oh yes, a man named Reagan. Not too bad for ex governors. They say the executive experience is good..

There is a reason that senators don’t become presidents kennedy did it and the only reason obama did it cause he had no record in the senate yet. For all the rest its way easy for a primary opponent or the other party to take a baseball bat to your voting record. And in Santorums case he has a long long 2 decades worth of shady deals in congress.

at this point – we just need a president who can make REALLLLLY tough decisions. from what i have seen, that only leaves ron paul. Santorum could make some tough decisions but i think they would be the wrong decisions

Wow.. Ron Paul can make some really tough decisions?
Were you watching the same debates I watched throughout the winter?
      RP is an apologist.
“I’m so sorry for the way America has treated you, what can we do to make it right”
      Yeah—he’s tough.

Saying that we should examine our current foreign policy, not get involved in entangling alliances, and not go to war with a country that hasn’t attacked us, is not being an apologist.
If you want America to be the global police and spend even more American lives and even more money fighting wars that aren’t our wars to fight, thats fine. How do we pay for these wars? If you can’t answer that question then you are nothing more than a big governement progressive.
Again, how do we pay for these wars?

But, but, but, I thought only the smart Congress people can understand and run our country. Us poor, stupid people sit here, clinging to our God and Guns. We aint as smart as them Congress people. How could one of us actually lead our country. I thought you had to have a long bloodline such as the Kennedy’s, Clintons, Gores, Rockefellers, Bush, to lead us. I am sooooooooo confused now.

We need a brokered convention, plain and simple. Is this the best we have?

      A brokered convention is bogus.
Why in the world do we waste 6 months and 50 states’ time sending people out to the voting booth only for it to come down to a few hundred delegate voters to decide the outcome?
      That’s total BS.
If there are more than 2 candidates in the race, the 1144 should be out the window and move to a majority wins rule. How could anyone win half the delegates when it’s being divided by 4 candidates?? The people of the country should not lose their voice because a couple of VERY WEAK candidates refuse to drop out.

you have just demonstrated the tradegy of splitting the conservative vote three ways. you should just be happy that things are in their current state – if newt drops out, somone will get the majority of votes and it wont be romney
