Christie on ‘12 Run: ‘I Already Know I Could Win’

The saga of Chris Christie’s non-existent 2012 presidential run continues. And as mentioned before, his denials do nothing but spark more speculation. Like his latest one, which simultaneously gladdened and saddened the hearts of many conservatives.
Speaking with National Review editor Rich Lowry, Christie made a bold prediction while also throwing cold water on the hot presidential rumors:
Yes. Believe me, I’ve been interested in politics my whole life. I see the opportunity. But I just don’t believe that’s why you run. Like I said at AEI, I have people calling me and saying to me, “Let me explain to you how you could win.” And I’m like, “You’re barking up the wrong tree. I already know I could win.” That’s not the issue. The issue is not me sitting here and saying, “Geez, it might be too hard. I don’t think I can win.” I see the opportunity both at the primary level and at the general election level. I see the opportunity.
But I’ve got to believe I’m ready to be president, and I don’t. And I think that that’s the basis you have to make that decision. I think when you have people who make the decision just based upon seeing the opportunity you have a much greater likelihood that you’re going to have a president who is not ready. And then we all suffer from that. Even if you’re a conservative, if your conservative president is not ready, you’re not going to be good anyway because you’re going to get rolled all over the place in that town. [Emphasis added]
Lowry, who is part of the increasing gaggle cheering a Christie run, didn’t let the NJ governor off easy.
“On the readiness front, you can’t argue with what he feels, but I think he’s wrong,” Lowry writes. “He’s at least as ready as Bill Clinton in 1991 (indecisive governor of a small state), George W. Bush in 1999 (decisive governor of big state, but in a very weak office), and Barack Obama in 2007 (no executive experience whatsoever).”
During the interview, Lowry tried one more time to convince Christie: “I joked with the governor that if he’s getting better every day, by November 2012, he’ll be ready to go. He laughed, but seemed unconvinced.”
Read more from Lowry and Christie — including Christie’s thoughts on his political progress — here.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 8:52amYou got it! A Christie/Cain ticket is just what we need right now. Plus, I would pay big bucks to see Christie mop the floor with Obama’s a** in a debate. Obama is not good at debating, that’s why the MSM let him dictate how the debates would go (interview style). That won’t happen again. They are right. Chris Christie has as much experience as Clinton did. Christie/Cain 2012…has a nice ring to it!

Herman Cain worked for the Federal Reserve bank of Kansas City.
Christie has supported government intervention in what food you consume, by supporting Michelle Obama’s dietary dictates.
I also hear he supports gun control.

I have to say that your one of the better posters on the Blaze, and Cain is amazing and he too would have my vote. But to call Christie supporters crazy is ridiculous. They guy has done nothing but kick but since he was elected. Dont come at us with, you “hear he supports gun control” because that just says you dont know, and layered in weakness. Christie has proven to be a good leader, so word your criticism of his supporters a little more on the intellectual side. there is no perfect candidate.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 1:01pmChristie on Illegal immigration
“Being in this country without proper documentation is not a crime,” Christie told more than 60 residents and town officials. “The whole phrase of ‘illegal immigrant’ connotes that the person, by just being here, is committing a crime.”
“Don’t let people make you believe that that’s a crime that the U.S. Attorney’s Office should be doing something about,” he added of entering the country illegally. “It is not.”
In an October 27 interview with Sean Hannity, Gov. Christie admitted that he favors gun control.
Christie: We have a densely populated state and there’s a big handgun problem in New Jersey. Now, I don’t support all the things that the governor supports, by a long stretch. But on certain gun control issues, looking at it from a law enforcement perspective, seeing how many police officers were killed — we have an illegal gun problem in New Jersey.
Hannity: Should every citizen in your state be allowed to get a licensed weapon if they want one?
Christie: In New Jersey, that’s not going to happen, Sean.
Hannity: Why?
Christie: Listen, with the Democratic Legislature that we have, there is no way those type of things -
Hannity: Would you support it.”
Christie: Listen, at the end of the day, what I support are common sense laws that will allow people to protect themselves. But I also am very concerned about the safety of our police officers on the streets. Very concerned. And I want to make sure that we don’t have an abundance of guns out there.

well if we are going to go with you two points of contention against Christie, lets talk about it.
By all Citizens do you think all citizens should have guns? This including convicted felons and people with mental disorders. I mean they are all citizens and with what you provided I do not see them not being apart of all citizens, since they are. Personally if you are not in those two categories I believe that have a right to weapons, as stated in our Constitution. But I dont think felons and people with mental disorders should be caring around firearms. Maybe you do??
As for illegal immigration I am completely against it, and I feel we should close the borders, but your two paragraphs are not damning evidence and if I was a brain washed liberal i might be convinced by your two paragraphs without citation, but seeing as how I am not a liberal, I am not.
I am a Conservative, Libertarian, Constitutionalists, Christian, and like what I have seen with Christie. maybe GOP governors like Bob Taft are more your cup of Tea.

Posted on March 3, 2011 at 2:23amChristie has been pandering to the Muslim population in New Jersey. He appointed a Muslim to a high judicial position. Since Sharia Law is the basic foundation of Islam, and the Koran is the Constitution for Muslims, then the Muslim judge has an admitted conflict of interest since he is to rule using the US and NJ Constitutions.
And Christie is in favor of gun control.
Couple that with his stance on non-enforcement of our immigration laws and you have a candidate who’s policies make him unfit to be president in my opinion.
I would campaign against him ardently if he ran.

Posted on March 3, 2011 at 11:56amI didn’t call anybody crazy, I made an interrogative, not a statement.
At any rate, I was referring especially to Herman Cain, who worked for the Federal Reserve bank, and who thought it ought not be audited, that is, until after Ron Paul gained steam in his push to audit the Fed.
Herman Cain actually suggested that we as Americans or Congress actually ASK the Federal Reserve to explain what it does with our money….as if they’re not gonna lie…they are bound by law to report to Congress at least every 5 years, and what good is that when they only reveal what they deem is relevant to reveal…5 years later after the damage is done?
“By all Citizens do you think all citizens should have guns? ”
My answer is simple.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of THE PEOPLE to keep and bear Arms, shall NOT be infringed.
Whatever extracurricular definitions you or anybody else construct out of these words, are arbitrary and irrelevant. The text is clear and you nor anyone else have the right to add or remove any inferrences or implications from these words.
As far as damning evidence for Chris Christie on illegal immigration, I think the text was also as crystal clear.
Christie SAID: “Being in this country without proper documentation is not a crime,” Christie told more than 60 residents and town officials.
Christie is WRONG.
I can be arrested and detained for up to 72 hours for not carrying proper identification.
I didn’t vote for Taft, Voinovich, or Sherrod Brown. I did vote for John Kasich. Maybe you ought to stop making baseless inferrences.
Ron Paul 2012.
Report Post »gobluebuckeye
Posted on March 3, 2011 at 3:18pmRon Paul 2012 ? that explains a lot, but i voted for Bob Barr, Michael Badnarik, and Harry Browne. So I will leave it alone.
Your answer to gun control is weak, do you think felons and the mentally challenged should be carrying around gun, is a yes or no answer. I know the constitution.
Again I am was clear I am against all immigration, and I am just saying your case against Christie and his supporters being crazy leaves much do be desired. One sound bite is not a track record, and its a tactic that should be saved for PMSNBC.
I voted for Kasich as well, and I am proud to have voted for him.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 8:53amExactly! There are great battles to be fought at the state level. We need strong governors to lead, especially in a state like NJ.
Power must be forced back to the states where it belongs. Too much centralization of political power in DC has led to the current disaster. When the election of one person causes such damage to the country as we are now seeing, we have a big problem indeed.
if he does run and wins the nomination, I will vote for him, but as I do…”what of New Jersey?”

That’s a good thing, our government is under siege by progressives, the lot of them.
They want to progress past the Constitution ( I don’t know how you could draft a better Document than that besides the Ten Commandments).
Therefor I would be all for Executive Orders, for the sake of saving our country from Progressives.
Obama flattered most people into thinking he was going to do just that, except that he had already taken a sharp progressive left long ago.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 10:08amHe says he is not ready to be president. Hell anybody is ready to “be” president. Look at Barack Obama! The trick is to “do” the presidency and succeed at doing what is best for the country‘s future and our children’s future. He is a leader that can do that and very effectively! He is ready to “do” the presidency.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 10:19amIf Christie waits until he believes the time is right, it maybe too late. We have to have a leader NOW, and he appears to be the best choice. Christie please do what is best for our Nation, and become the leader you know you can be.

I‘m sure he has had physical but I don’t believe this man is the healthiest of individuals.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 10:26amBullcop34, I’m absolutely with you on that one. Both are smart and tough men and that’s what we need.
CatB, you’re right. At this point I thing Obama could be beaten by Dr. Seuss. We need another Reagan, or better, if possible. We need his anti-Communism attitude today more than ever.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 12:13pmOh good grief. What is wrong with some of you? He’s too fat? He’s unhealthy? Um, do you think that wafer thin, smoking dude in the WH is “fit”? Please. What does this have to do with the price of tea in China?
If you all focused on issues and facts as much as you focused on “electability” we wouldn’t be in this position. You all roll out to 8/28 rallies, tea party events, etc and then come home and put up some lame RINO as a candidate. To make matters worse, the guy who FOUNDED the Tea Party is bashed repeatedly.
It’s like 2010 meant nothing. You sheeple all go back to sulking and tiptoeing through the political process while your opposition steals the day again. Grow spines and stand up for what you believe. If you want freedom and small government as the constitution dictates then QUIT VOTING FOR RINO’s!!!!!!
People won’t elect so and so. Why? Because he’s fat or says we should end the Fed? Well that might scare people away. Either we are in trouble as a country or you are full of beans. Which is it? If you honestly believe we are in trouble then stand up, be loud, be active, take control of the debate, engage the opposition on thier turf, relish the facts, convince people to stop taking an American Idol approach to politics.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 12:15pmThe same tough talk Chistie uses on budget matters will be the same tough talk he uses against conservatives on issues like gun control, illegal immigration or even ObamaCare.
He is not the conservative so many people think he is:
# He has populated his cabinet with notorious liberals while firing the only true conservative – after slandering him;
# He has endorsed notorious RINO candidates in the 2010 mid-term election while avoiding (with one notable exception) contact with conservative candidates;
# He supports a multi-state Cap & Trade scheme known as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and is so committed to Cap & Trade that he used funds raised from RGGI’s carbon auctions to help balance the budget; he has directed that state funds be appropriated to subsidize “green” technology ventures such as off-shore windmills;
# He has refused to join other state attorneys-general in a joint lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare while accepting federal funds for the implementation of a similar program on a statewide level;
# He is on record saying that he does not believe illegal aliens are here illegally; he has indicated that he supports amnesty for illegals; he generally favors strict gun control and he supports construction of the Ground Zero Mosque even as he condemns those who oppose it.
