Christie on 2012 Prez Run: ‘I’m Not Ready’

Appearing on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” this morning, NJ Gov. Chris Christie did not leave the door open for a 2012 presidential run, saying that “it’s absolutely not me,“ and ”I’m not ready.”

But as Business Insider points out, the door may have been left open for something in 2016:

It’s a little surprising. He could have easily just said something like “I’m focused on fixing New Jersey, and can’t speculate on future political plans.” He also says he doesn’t want it that bad.

So does not wanting it “that bad” mean he wants it a little? Maybe he has an “itch” — and maybe the scratching might not be appropriate now, but it could be come 2016. Is it ever too early to speculate?

You can watch the presidential conversation directly below. The entire appearance (in two segments) is also included farther down:

I respect Christie for his honesty. He is clearly NOT a politician thank goodness. America has had enough of politics and its time to get back to getting the congress and senate to do what they were sent there to do. Not play patty cake with special intrest.

I’d like to see Christie do at least 1-2 tearms in either the House or Senate and then run for president. AFTER he feels he is done in NJ. Lets NOT make the same mistake as we did with Obama.

If he never runs for president i think someone will tap him for VP. Who ever that is will be ridding on Christies coat tails. Not the other way around.

I’m sorry but 80% of the nation are more ready than Obama ever was. That doesn‘t mean that there aren’t needs beyond the White house. He’s filling a position with critical needs of someone of his character. Do you have any idea how bad off the state of NJ is? We need More Like Him and we need them EVERYWHERE. Even places that don’t really need people like him right now because we need them to help turn the whole government around. That Cannot be done with just 1 person while the rest of the legislative positions are still pulling in the wrong direction.

You have to respect Christie’s position on this. He needs to do what he needs to do in NJ, then we will see. It does remind me of G Washington saying “Have I not yet done enough for my country?”. Christie knows it is not time yet, but seems to understand that the time may indeed be coming.

Thank God he has more sense than Obama. Don’t coerce him nudge him or push him to higher office let him do what he needs to for his state. It might help him learn things that Obama clearly missed in all his prior offices that could help should he ever make a run for the white house in future elections.

If you simply want more qualified. Even Hillary Clinton’s Shoes are more qualified than Obama is proving to be at this point. That doesn’t mean they nor she should be elected to the White House.

I think Mayor Rudy should give it another run. He at least knew when to cut a budget that was out of control in NYC.

NOW.. I would liked Romney to head up another GRACE COMMISSION and give him the power to implement ways to cut down govt and make necessary orgs more efficient. He is GREAT at that and would IMO provide a greater service to the USA by being hands on.

I am with Contrarian on this. I too am “Mormon” (I prefer the longer, official name) and I don’t think I would vote for Romney. When I was reading the presidential websites going into the primaries, I found that I loved his stand on things most of all. But, then I learned about his actual politics. And I learned more about the real world of politics since then too. If it had been Barack Obama versus Romney, I would have voted Romney. If it had been McCain versus Romney, I would have voted Romney. But if you want the truth, I don’t want Romney as President of the United States. When I voted for McCain, I couldn’t stand McCain. I was actually hoping all those fears about the Presidency and his health were possibly true because between the two Presidential candidates, and the two Vice-President options, I could only stand Sarah Palin. She wasn’t perfect by a long shot (bridge to no-where) but she was the best choice I heard among any of the debates. Personally, I think McCain would have us just about where President Obama has us right now, it just would have been a slightly different road to the right.

I respect his decision as well. He may not be fully qualified but he would be hands down better than our current President. I will be paying attention to how his states recovery progresses. Maybe he might be ready in 2016. One thing I can’t support though is cap and trade. To me this is a deal breaker for any politician. Cap and trade is more than tax. It is a method of redistribution of wealth on a global scale. In my opinion this policy is a major push towards a new social world order of which I want NO PART.

I think what we all seem to be responding to is what appears to be genuine honesty. This is almost unheard of in today’s politics and is a standard that all politicians should be forced to follow.

A thought that truly brings a smile to my face though is Christie sitting across the table and addressing some of these foreign dictators that Obama apologized for America’s actions to. Could you just imagine the expression on their faces when he got done with them?

Biscuit, The Geese, Chris Christie & The tomb of the unkown, September 21, 2010 (Jawja):

My 10 year old Son, My Wife and I attended 8/28. We politely elbowed our way to beside the reflecting pool approx mid-length of the pool from the Lincoln Memorial and the WWII Memorial. I felt out of character being there, but now after having attended, I feel that it has added to my character.

Afterward, my family along with my brother’s family crossed the Potomic River, just like George Washington, except we walked across the bridge to Arlington. As I stood watching the Guards of the tomb of the unknown soldier, who by the way never lost Honor and never had to have it restored, I realized that I too had been a part of a much larger changing of the Guard earlier in the day. WE THE PEOPLE – the next great generation!

The tomb that I stood before, did it hold a soldier that was ready to die for his country? Probably they felt they were not ready, they didn’t want to die, but they were willing to pay the sacrifice.

READ the 24th Chapter of Joshua – Choose you this day whom ye will serve – as for the Geese and my family, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD.

As for Chris Christie, men of Greatness never feel ready, you just have to be willing to sacrifice. If he chooses to serve the people, I hope he remains the very same as he feels today, humble and willing to do the right thing in face of great resistance.

I read MIKEZ’s post and found it a lot like your posts. He uses 3 to 4 word accusations and moves on to the next one. Now, I liked his argument about the putting the $70 million from the cap and trade in states budget but it’s not clear to me what his argument is. I don‘t claim to know the budget process but I assume it’s budget projections and all budgets need to project future funds. Why wouldn’t he include it in his projections? Or are you saying if cap and trade passes the people of New Jersey should not expect their share of the funds in return and should reject them? If your pointing out that he‘s on record for supporting cap and trade that is the truth but I’m not asking for him to run for president, I just want him and others to give us ideas so we all can make intelligent decisions about the issues . As for cap and trade, the way I see it is it’s another method to manipulate the people and make money at the same time. It’s a win-win for the control freaks /tax and spend crowd in Washington.

      @Eagle07
Where am I drinking the kool-aid? If you remember my compliant had to do with you posting useless information with no facts. And based on your last response I stick to that statement. I‘m not here to defend Christie’s record or all on his positions on all the issues. Most if not all are have to deal with state issues but he does have some good ideas about how to deal with out of control costs(like cracking down on the greedy unions). I ask you to tell me where I’m wrong and your answer is to lay off the Kool-aid. And let‘s not forget Governors don’t get to vote for cap and trade.
I also I’m aware that the consumer is at the bottom of the food chain.

Here’s the text of your last reply to me – “Yes by all means please don’t feed Blueeyes she is about as bright as a dimwitocrat”
First of all I’m not a female and second based on the above quote you just lost the argument.

Ok Blueeyes Having good ideas and doing what is right are two differant things. Apparently a lot of people thought Barack Osama had good ideas and where are we now?All I’m saying and like I said before I actually voted for Christi unlike yourself is be careful what you wish for.

IF I was Christie, I would prove in NJ what can be done to bring jobs, etc. even against great odds.
He must focus 100% in doing the best he can in NJ. Diverting his focus and eating up his time to run in a pack of GOP POTUS hopefuls would be stupid.

IF he is as successful as he feels he will be, the GOP smart people will wish to draft him. I doubt that he would turn down a draft by the Convention. How could he?

Christie!!! You may not be ready yet, but we are and sometimes your callings in this life come at inconvenient times. They don’t always seem like the right time. It’s the extraordinary one who just does it anyway and does it for his fellow man/woman. You’re doing a great job in NJ. Don‘t feel like you’re not done yet because you can have a greater impact in the White House and continue doing great work. We’re not looking for perfect people. Just extraordinary!! Think about it….

Sure Contra At first I thought he was great and liked what he was doing. But than he showed his other hand and here it comes. I pay some of the highest school taxes in my town. Now the new anointed one is going to allow people to send their children to other districts if they want. So you can vote down your school budgets and pay say $2000 a year for schools and I can pay my say 3500 a year and now your kid can apply to come to my schools. I have no problem with it if your district is going to give mine the 3500 but he is allowing them to just pay the 2000.We voted about five years ago to raise our taxes so our kids could have sports when they were looking to cut them. But there are other towns that cut their sports and extracurricular things to save money. So why should they now be able to come to our district especially since now we are locked in to these amounts. The only thing we can do now is vote down every budget that comes before us and then hurt our children. And btw my children are out of the school system but its not fair to the ones that are in it.
