Christine O‘Donnell and the ’One Night Stand’

“I had a one night stand with Christine O’Donnell.”
That’s the title of a story posted on the news and gossip website Gawker yesterday. It’s caused a stir, particularly because its author is anonymous. The Delaware Senatorial candidate has denied the claim. And now some, including liberal organizations such as the National Organization for Wowen, are standing up for O’Donnell.
First, the claim.
“I barely knew Christine when she turned up at my door at around eight o’clock on the night of Halloween,” Gawker’s story begins. The author goes on to detail how, three years ago, a very intoxicated O’Donnell begged the man to go drinking with her and a friend, and how she asked the man to bring her back to his place later. He did, and while they ended up naked in his bed, he claims they never had sex.
Last night, Sean Hannity noticed that Republican women across the country have been “demonized,” from Meg Whitman in California, to Sharron Angle in Nevada, and now to O’Donnell. He invited O’Donnell on the show to respond to the accusations and his theory. At the time, however, she claimed she was unaware of them:
Soon after the show, however, the O’Donnell camp responded.
“This story is just another example of the sexism and slander that female candidates are forced to deal with. From Secretary Clinton, to Governor Palin, to soon-to-be Governor Haley, Christine’s political opponents have been willing to engage in appalling and baseless attacks — all with the aim of distracting the press from covering the real issues in this race,” O‘Donnell’s communications director said in a statement yesterday.
“Such attacks are truly shameful,” the statement added.
The National Organization for Women agrees.
“NOW repudiates Gawker’s decision to run this piece. It operates as public sexual harassment. And like all sexual harassment, it targets not only O’Donnell, but all women contemplating stepping into the public sphere,” said NOW president Terry O’Neill.
While O’Neill “finds O’Donnell’s political positions dangerous for women … that does not mean it’s acceptable to use slut-shaming against her, or any woman.”
That statement is somewhat puzzling. Just a few weeks ago, NOW came under fire for not taking a harder stance when California’s Meg Whitman was called a “whore.”
Still, the outcry over the story may have forced NOW to come out strong. The list of others questioning the piece is growing:
- Gawker’s own sister site Jezebel
- Mediaite
- Michelle Malkin
- Dave Weigel
- Feminists Jessica Valenti and Megan Carpentier
- Donna Brazile
- Wonkette
“[S]exist, misogynist attacks against women have no place in the electoral process, regardless of a particular candidate’s political ideology,” NOW added.
That sentiment seems to be echoed, at least now, by conservatives and liberals alike.

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 11:32amI”ve talked to many intelligent and successful women about Sarah Palin, and they have a different take than you. They believe that there is as much sexism in allowing the bar of expectations to be set very low in the case of a women, when it would never be set that low for a man. Karl Rove wants the GOP to win every election, but even he is saying that Palin lacks what it takes to be President or even VP. But there are a lot of conservative strategists and commentators (e.g., Kristol) that will tolerate the sub-par female candidate because she is a female. It is an interesting point, paralleling similar claims about whites tolerating lower test scores in black students. I think they are on to something with those claims.

Why doesn’t someone have the BALLS (male or female) to stand up and say yes or no to issues…and stick with it?!?!?!?!? Why doesn’t someone running for office say what they are going to do and stick with it?!?!?
It’s simple, watch:
Do you believe in same sex marriage? NO!
Do you believe gays should be allowed in the military? NO!!
Do you believe that everyone in this country illegally should be charged as such and deported? Yes!!
if we can secure the border on the 38th parallel, we can secure our own.
Do you believe people that cannot afford to buy a house be allowed to buy one anyway? HUH?? NO!!
Do you believe people should only be on welfare for 1 year and then be off of it? Yes!!
Do you think people whose children are receiving 3 free meals at school should lose WIC and food stamps? Yes!!
Do you believe in Nativity scenes in public places? Yes!! You don’t like it, don’t look at it.
Do you believe in “one nation under God” in the pledge? Yes!!
Should Congress receive the same pay raise as the military each year?? Yes!!
I’m tired, damn tired of the direction in which this country is moving!! It’s time people, It’s time-

Politicians are afraid to, since they will be crushed by the other side during the campaign and by the voter during the electrion.
Ultimate, the American voter and consumer of news media is to blame. We get the press and government that we deserve. And we deserve very little given what we tolerate or reward.

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 11:25amIt is NOT sexism. Sexism is when a female candidate is attacked for behavior that a male candidate is not attacked for. For example, Senator Vitter received a standing ovation by his Republican colleagues when he returned to the floor after news of his prostitution habit became public. This would not happen for a female Republican Senator. The GOP made hay out of Hillary having an “anger” problem, but viewed that same behavior as saintly in their icon Ronald Reagan–remember the “this is my microphone” ambit that won him plaudits in 1979? The correct principle here is that if a male candidate’s one-night stand can be forgiven, then so should a female candiate’s. If it is not, then that is sexism.
But O’Donnell is different. She has said that premarital sex is wrong, and she is willing to call out both a man or a woman for this kind of behavior. So if the story is true (a big if), then she is a hypocrite and sexism has nothing to do with it.

Report Post »abc
Posted on October 29, 2010 at 11:20amCollapse? That’s a good one. The GOP went 40 years without coming close to controlling any part of Congress. The Dems are facing the biggest economic downturn in 70 years and they will not lose the Senate. Actually, the economic crisis we just went through has always caused a complete loss of power for decades in previous times (e.g., 1930s, 1880s, etc.). This pattern also happened in the UK. And now the Congressional races are tightening, as they always do in the final week…
It goes to show you that America is not a center right country. And putting up out of the mainstream candidates is hurting the GOP. Karl Rove is correct to lament the crazies in the Tea Party that run morons like O’Donnell. He understands that the Republicans should have ended up with lasting control of the entire Congress for at least 20 years, but it will not happen. And the dolts defending O’Donnell are to blame.

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 7:37pmThe reason that power keeps switching back to Dems is that they keep stooping to lower and lower tactics in their desperation to hold on to power. For example, taking a war that was overwhelmingly supported by Congress at the outset and politicizing and undermining it well before success could be assured or failure predicted. When in control of Congress, the Dems never voted to de-fund the war, and now you don’t hear the liberals screaming for Obama to get out of Iraq. Why ? Because it was 90 % a political ploy to get Bush out of power. “I support the troops but I don’t support the war”. Yeah right !

Posted on October 29, 2010 at 11:16amI know we have more class than the Dem’s/socialist do,however theres a part of me that says attack them in the same way they go after Palin,Bauchman and Christine.Would they like us dig around in their past or simply make up a incident they may or may not have been involved in? Is Michelle Obama,Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi fair game: can we make fun of their weight, stupid things they’ve done as a young person, how many men they have slept with, drug use, ect………

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 6:52amok so this woman is ten points behind in the polls and everytime they attack her she goes up. what have we learned? Do they not realize they are making a second sarah palin out of her? are the democrat strategists taking pointers from 13 year old girls?
Report Post »and here’s an interesting point about the story. she doesnt have sex with the guy…um, don’t liberals preach about having other forms of sex without actually getting down and dirty?
i hope she wins, but even if she loses they have created a nightmare for themselves by attacking her this much.
