Christine O’Donnell Walks Off Heated CNN Interview With Piers Morgan

Former U.S. Senate candidate Christine O‘Donnell ended a contentious interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan on Wednesday night by angrily walking off set after Morgan accused her of being “weird” for not answering questions about her stance on gay marriage:

Despite the testy exchange, Hot Air’s Allahpundit doesn’t get what went wrong:

I don’t understand her objection. Did Morgan not let her talk about her book at all during the course of the interview? Or is she just really, really opposed to talking about gay marriage for whatever reason? Unless there’s an agreement before the show that certain topics are off-limits, the host is usually free to ask anything he/she wants. Palin just did an hour of questions with reporters last week at the Iowa state fair and didn’t rule any subject out of bounds, even though she’s not running for anything right now either. Very strange.

Meanwhile, Morgan defended his interview questions to Anderson Cooper on Cooper’s CNN program:

Cooper gave Morgan the floor to explain what he had felt as O’Donnell walked out, and he admitted it was “a bit extraordinary”– “I thought I was being my normal, chivalrous British self, and then she took huge umbrage, declared I was being very rude, and walked out.” He admitted he may have been “a little bit cheeky, maybe, but not rude” and didn’t believe the audience would agree with her.

    I was really P.O.‘d at all the conservatives and Republicans who didn’t support her when she ran for office. Now I see the error of my ways. I can’t stand the socialist Piers Morgan either, but Christine just made herself look like an absolute fool. Why would she shy away from her opinion on the subject…isn’t it already well-known anyway?

      I listened to a fairly long interview with her by Mark Levin last week and was quite impressed. She’s an intelligent, articulate and well-versed lady. I could care less what she thinks about queerism.

      True… she wasn’t ready for prime time. Choose your candidates carefully. It’s very simple for folks to jump in front of a rally and hit all the buzzwords. I think Bachmann has been doing that to us now. Grabbing a baton and getting in front of the parade. McCotter, Paul, and Cain are the only folks that are saying now what they were saying before there was a Tea Party.       Agreed…..it either comes from a lack of courage…… or a lack of conviction. A lack of conviction suggests she has not lived out her belief system long enough to be comfortable with her own philosophical truths and continues to struggle with the application of her faith. A lack of courage might suggest she does not actually BELIEVE what she espouses and therefore cannot stand on any principle at all.

      BOTH are debilitating…………….I pray for her peace, love, and understanding.

      I think she did exactly what she should have done. He clearly told her the interview would be about one thing and she agreed to it based on that. After he got her in front of the camera, he thought he had her trapped.

      If she had been there as a political candidate, it would be a different story because all political issues are fair game in that situation.

      It was her fault for agreeing to an interview. It is actually a pretty amazing job on the part of Pierce Morgan. Not only is everyone talking about him now, his ratings have shot through the roof.

      Plus all she had to do was answer the question that was laid out in HER book. It was completely immature of her to walk of the show. Just makes her look terrible.

      @addie Did you miss the part where it was indicated the issues he was asking about were in her book. She was a joke when she ran and she is even a bigger joke now. It is very sad to see people sent money for her campaign, some of which she used inappropriately and now might buy what has to be a waste of a good tree. She is trying to follow the coat tails of Sarah Palin and M. Bachmann and very very sad to say she is even in their league. Which is of course single AA ball at best.

    I saw the entire interview. It was actually quite cordial until Morgan asked O’Donnell the sex and gay marriage questions. If those issues were in her book as Morgan says, I really don‘t understand why O’Donnell didn’t want to answer the questions. Walking out on a interview doesn’t make you look good at all, no matter who you are (see Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar).

      This interview has two problems. One, O’Donnell should have answered the question, as it is discussed in her book and she isn’t running for office, as she says, so what is the big whoop since you have no independents you are trying to appeal to who might be for Progressive or Libertarian style gay rights, and two, Morgan is is a dimwit. If your interviewee is uncomfortable or unwilling to answer a line of questions, ask the question in couple of different ways, and if they persist to be unwilling to answer, move on to the next topic. Neither one is ready for prime-time.

    While I’m not a fan of CNN, and certainly not a fan of Morgan, I don’t think he was out of bounds. Gay marriage is a very current and debated political topic and I think every person seeking major political office needs to let the public know what their views on it are.

    I don’t know why anyone would go on his show if they are to the right of his politics, he won’t be fair unless you scare him as did Jesse Ventura did one night. This lady is strange and should hang it up get another profession.

      She agreed to the interview, but she only wanted to answer certain questions. She got angry when he strayed from the questions she agreed to. She was acting weird.
