Chuck Schumer Attacks Jan Brewer via Twitter for Refusing to Attend Immigration Hearing

Arizona’s immigration law has famously earned the ire of many Democrats, making Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer a political lightning rod for immigration issues. And Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) seems to want to get a crack at nailing down Brewer. To that end, he’s called a Senate hearing on the law and is now aggressively trying to get Brewer to show up.

The problem is that Brewer is having none of it. Instead, she’s sending the legislator who wrote the law to Congress to testify about the need for it. To most people, this would seem to be an acceptable substitute. After all, there’s no immediately obvious reason why the person who enforces a law should be a better authority on the need for it than the person who authored it in the first place.

But not for Schumer, who pounced on Gov. Brewer for the substitution via Twitter today:

Senator Chuck Schumer Attempts to Shame Arizona Governor Jan Brewer Into Appearing Before the Senate Via TwitterThe Hill adds context:

“Other Arizona officials responsible for this law are willing to come and defend it, but not Gov. Brewer,” Schumer said in a statement on Tuesday. “The governor is the one who signed this bill into law; she shouldn’t leave the defense of it to others.”

Brewer’s spokesman said last month that the governor would turn down the invitation to testify at the hearing because the timing of the hearing, scheduled for April 24 — the day before the Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments in defense of the law — gave it “every mark of a publicity stunt.”[...]

“Gov. Brewer has long said border security is one of the nation’s most pressing issues, so it is odd that she is unwilling to even come to Congress to defend her views,” Schumer responded to Brewer at the time. “It makes you wonder whether there is genuine interest in finding real solutions to our broken immigration system. We hope the governor will reconsider.”

It’s difficult to find anyone in The Senate who is more useless than Chuck Schumer,,,unless Dick Durbin stumbles into the room.

Well, Mr. Schumer, you truly don’t get it, do you?

NEVER have you stood to defend the people in the State of Arizona or Gov. Brewer. While, Americans are being killed, the White House is suing her, and the governent, including yourself, are doing absolutely nothing to protect any of the border states. Go ahead, Sir, lay out those talking points about how the ‘border is safer now than ever before’. All that proves is that you don’t live in Arizona, and you don’t own a ranch and stand the chance of being killed on any given day by an illegal.

I don‘t give a rat’s patute what party you happen to be in, Mr. Schumer. When you so obviously stop caring about other people, when you can no longer decipher right from wrong or use a scintilla of common sense, then you’ve taken up space in Washington for way too long.

Ms. Brewer has been verbally abused by the President, you and all your tunnel-visioned, idealistic ‘representative’ friends in both Houses and the Soros owned media. You have degraded her, called her names, called her stupid, called her un-American and called her a ‘racist’…and, now you can‘t understand why she may not want to attend your ’hearing’. Since they are televised, the American people have watched your abusive nature, Sir. You are truly an angry, tired, old man who needs to retire to a nice community where you can learn how to smile again. Have you noticed that Democrats don’t smile very often? Retire, Sir. Well all be better

Exactly, does anyone think that this would be anything other than the democrats using their full time to ask a question and answer it themselves? If I were she I would go with my own agenda and stack of facts, I would answer my own questions such as. “why were we forced to enforce the federal laws?”

This supposedly secure border is dangerous. Bullets from Juarez coming into El Paso, the closing of the bridges at other Texas border points becuase of gun fights between the police and drug cartels. The AX/NM/CA border where the only deterrent is a barbed wire fence and UDAs are given transport to LA or Phoenix in return for back packing 50 lbs across the line.
Come on Chucky baby lets you and Sweet-Old-Barack (SOB), Eric Holdup and Janet Nocommon sense come down to the border and show us how safe and secure it is. Go out with some of the farmers and ranchers and see what they have to deal with every day, Deal with a law suit for rotecting your property like Roger Barnett had to do.
All you are interested in is the illegal voters to help re-elect SOB. Why don’t you hold hearings on voter IDs? They have to show them for welfare and food stamps why not to vote?

      OMG

    Mr. Schumer,

You and your friends completely disregard our federal immigration laws and promote government programs for illegal immigrants, “for their votes”. Why should Gov. Brewer waste her time sitting in a room defending a law that her constituents support and will soon be upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. The citizens of the United States are in the process of removing Progressives from their seats in the House and Senate, if you would like to be one of them please continue to give us your personal opinion. If not, please take a seat and do the job you were sent there to do, making laws that defend and uphold the U.S. Constitution and protect the Liberties of American Citizens from the Progressive Socialist Movement or any other Foe/Factions that would like the United States to become a part of the Socialist New World Order.

    Chapter 2
Unbelievable…the new FED detention facilities with all the perks illegal aliens now receive at “CLUB MED” on taxpayer’s dime. Americans are scrimping and saving and doing without
illegal aliens are receiving mental, medical and dental care, hormone treatment, balanced and healthy meals and more. While the elderly in our Country ….worry about how they are going to
pay for their med’s – illegal aliens are receiving anything they need. Free housing, health care and legal representation, recreation and let’s not forget the natural lighting.
Why…. so that immigrants can be housed closer to where they were apprehended in an effort “to reduce the number transferred away from their families, their community and their attorneys.”
And what are we receiving……….. the bill!!!!! thanks to the Obama Administration
Why are illegal aliens being treated better than American Citizens? Why are they not receiving humane care while awaiting a speedy deportation? Why is no one speaking up in Congress, where are our elected officials, Who is talking about reducing spending?!?!?!? When you opt for an extraction of a tooth instead of a costly root canal remember that you cannot afford it – but illegal aliens are receiving them free. When you are hungry remember the pampered illegal aliens. See a homeless vet on the streets or a family living in their car be reminded of the POS, who broke our laws, is residing in a $30 mil Club Med facility that you pay for!

I see that, and raise you this:
“President Obama has long said he was born in this country, so it is odd that he is unwilling to even answer a sworn and binding subpoena to come to Court in GA to defend his claims”.

Wasn’t Chucky an author of the failed Assault Weapons Ban from the Clinton era?

Let’s see, he helped author it, but it was Clinton who signed it….so by Schumer-Logic, should we expect him to shut up about how great the AWB was, to stop defending legislation he didn’t sign into law?
Man that would be a great day!

Gov. Brewer is right (as always). The Dems are trying to make a big public show the day before this goes to the Supreme Court. They have had months to discuss this ….. but that would be ‘work’ …this is a dog and pony show for Schumer……you know…Schumer ….who is begging Saudia Arabia for more oil so we can restribute our money to them instead of keeping our money in the U.S. and using domestic oil.

I do not know how a person can be smart enough to be a NY Congressman and not know that enforcing the Federal Immigration Law would solve the problem.

close the border emforce the law and send the illegals back home. Ah, Outlaw anchor-babies too, Send there kids with them.

Also is Schumer one of the making noise about picture ID to VOTE? What is amatter with that? You need Picture ID for alot of stuff and voting (our most important right as an Amercan CITIZEN) should be on the list.

      Allen,

It is my understanding (and this is 2nd-hand information) that the states proposing these Photo ID laws have no state-issued alternative to the Driver’s License (DL) as a state-issued ID. IF this is the case, the voters are limited to having a Driver’s license or another gov-issued ID like the passport.

A significant amount of black voters in said states do not drive and thus do not have a driver’s license. They likely don’t have a passport either. The same goes for the elderly citizens in the state who do not drive/travel.

Should this be true, I think that the ID concern is legitimate.

      If this is the case,

Does this mean that Schumer is willing to go on the record to defend all the legislation that he initiated and/or voted for? Since the Arizona law is based on the federal law, maybe Mr Schumer should question the president who signed the federal law.
