Church Reportedly Gets Death Threats & Pastor in Hiding After Vid Shows Small Boy Singing Anti-Gay Song

The Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in Greensburg, Indiana, has gained widespread attention this week following publication of a video purportedly showing a young boy singing a song about homosexuals and heaven. In the wake of the uproar surrounding the on-stage performance, the church is reportedly on lock-down. The furor has apparently been so intense, that church members report receiving death threats and the house of worship’s pastor, Jeff Sangl, has purportedly gone into hiding.

Despite intense criticism, the Daily Mail claims that some church members are standing by the controversial performance. TMZ quotes one congregant who apparently doubled down on the song, claiming that it is rooted in Biblical teaching.

“The people who are upset just don’t read the word of God,” the church member said. “If we don’t teach the children the truth early they will never learn.”

As for the applause and support for the boy’s singing, another member said, “Of course we applauded a child who is singing a song about God.”

According to sources, Pastor Sangl apparently left for an unplanned vacation immediately following the national controversy and no one knows exactly where he went. Harassing calls and death threats have apparently followed as well, with the church going on to issue a statement on its web site. The May 30, 2012 statement reads:

The Pastor and members of Apostolic Truth Tabernacle do not condone, teach, or practice hate of any person for any reason. We believe and hope that every person can find true Bible salvation and the mercy and grace of God in their lives. We are a strong advocate of the family unit according to the teachings and precepts found in the Holy Bible. We believe the Holy Bible is the Divinely-inspired Word of God and we will continue to uphold and preach that which is found in scripture.

The boy, who many believe to be no older than five, seems to sing the anti-gay lyrics three times during his performance. The words, a play on Bishop G.E. Patterson’s “I Know The Bible Is Right,” are intensely troubling to gay advocates and others who believe this sort of rhetoric doesn’t belong in houses of worship.

Here are Patterson’s original lyrics: ”I’ve told you time and time again, you can‘t make it to Heaven while you sippin’ on gin‘ and ’I’ve told you once, I’ve told you twice, you can’t make it to Heaven with a sweetheart and a wife.”

And here‘s the young boy’s version, complete with anti-gay sentiment: “I know the the Bible’s right, somebody’s wrong, the Bible’s right, somebody’s wrong, Romans one, twenty six and twenty seven, Ain’t no homos gonna make it to Heaven.”

Sex columnist and gay rights activist Dan Savage had plenty to say about the incident, writing in his column that the church’s location happens to be the same town where another boy was bullied to death. Additionally, he took some time to defend himself against anti-Christian charges:

The Apostolic Truth Tabernacle is in Greensburg, Indiana. That’s the town where Billy Lucas was bullied to death for being perceived to be gay by his classmates. I wonder if they stood up and cheered at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle when Lucas died—hey, another homo in hell. I wonder if any of Lucas’s tormenters attend services at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle. And remember: I’m an anti-Christian bully for pointing out the connection between what straight kids are taught about “homos” in the shithole mega-churches they’re dragged to by their parents and what they turn around and do to “homos” they encounter in classrooms. And what if that precocious little four-year-old singer is gay?

Praise the Lord and pass the barf bags.

Small children, who used to remain blissfully unaware of the sexual issues of the greater society, now are targets of indoctrination on all sides. If it is deemed appropriate for little Johnny to learn about alternative lifestyles in his story books, if it is appropriate to start sex education in kindergarten, if it is appropriate for one side to start their indoctrination at this age; it must be appropriate for the opposing side to do so also. If your child will be attending public schools, they need to have a firm footing in their foundational beliefs. Until the aggressive pro-gay lifestyle agenda started, you would have never seen something like this child’s song in a church. I shudder to think where all of this is heading.

While I agreewith the views of the above poster, I think it is important to point out that these threats are no more than psychological ploys by groups of homosexual activists who would literally faint if they were involved in violence, especially if they were the intended targets for whatever reason.

What they hope to do is what they always hope to do with their childish psychology and that is to create a bit of Orwellian intimidation with the intent to make it appear as if there are large numbers of violent people who are for their perverted causes.

Just read their feeble, obvious attempts at flim flam on this site and you’ll get a good idea of what they try to employ, because they perceive what they do as helping them to gain inclusion into mainstream society.

They’re mentally ill and they display their problem repeatedly, although they’re too out-of-touch or arrogant to know they’re not fooling but a scant few people and are turning far more against them.

Oh yeah, Carol. An impressive use of logic.

Teaching children that, yes, gay men and women exist (and that gay men and women were at one time gay children) is EXACTLY the same as planting seeds of hatred of gay men and women in the sponge-like minds of kids. Yeah, that makes total sense. Now, consider that the child who was taught that song (adapted from the original “Aint No ******* Gonna Make it To Heaven” from 1912) later identifies as gay. The shrews in that church and his parents are directly to blame for teaching that kid that he’s evil.

Real nice logic you have there.

The militant gay types like the total and complete loser Savage are attacking marriage not because they want equality but because they hate Christians for refusing to accept their lifestyle. If they would just go and live their lives and get out of everyone‘s face about their behavior sure this church would’ve never bothered singing such a song. That being said, do think it‘s incredibly stupid and wouldn’t want to belong to a church like that.

You are right! In the Philippine Islands, gays are totally treated as equals – but there are no gay pride parades, rainbow flags, etc. People don’t care what they do in private, and they in turn don’t rub their “lifestyle” in the public’s face. Here, they make their “lifestyle” a public issue, then complain when they are not embraced by everyone. Weird.

And because of their (gays) blatant public expressions and demands that we as a society accept them and their lifestyles, or else attitude, you get somewhat radical right wing conservatives that revolt by teaching their children to hate the person instead of loving as Christ did. He did not condem the person only the sin and we all have sin in our life. We need to show love for all mankind but never accept the sinful life, no matter what sin that is.

The question should be………Is the song accurate according to the Bible? Are they telling the truth at this church? Not whether the song is offensive or not. Let’s check and see what is actually written in the Bible regarding this…….the song lyrics are “Ain’t no homos gonna make it to Heaven.”

    It is written:
“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” – I Corinthians 6:9-11

It’s a fine distinction to be sure, especially when the child’s song is compared to the original; after all, no one complains about a song that says alcoholics and adulterers can’t get into heaven. The question is if the church is teaching their congregants to despise sin or hate gays? Christians have a responsibility to love the sinner and hate the sin. So far there is nothing to inducate that this child was being taught to hate gays, but like I said, its a fine line.

I used to stick up for gays when I was younger essentially leave them alone, don’t pick on them, or make fun of them etc. Not anymore still have the same attitude, leave them alone, but am sick and tired of their bullying and in your face behavior that has emerged the past decade or so.

Can’t turn on your TV without in your face gay agenda. Every ten minutes I’m hearing or reading about gays (or liberals) screaming at people, demanding this, demanding that. Teaching grade school kids Sally has Two Mommies and about gay s3x.

Gay marriage, trying to shove it down our throats. Really sick of all of it. There is no such thing as gay marriage. By definition marriage the the holy bond between a man and a woman. End of story. They can call it what they want really don’t care, but it‘s not marriage it’s something else.

Used to be sympathetic towards gays now just want them to shut up and go away and mind their own business like everyone else. You can’t “force” someone to believe what you want.

My biggest problem with this church is that they’re not really teaching the Gospel. All too often “Christians” like to pick and chose the parts of His Word that back up their already preconceived notions. God is love. Period. He hates sin but loves the sinner. There is not a single creation on this planet that He did not personally have a hand in making and a purpose for their life. I do not however condone sin. Neither does He and His Word is pretty clear on this too. Homosexuality is spirit of sin that we like to categorize as worse than other sins. God doesn’t see it as any worse than He does stealing, lying, adultery, drunkeness, etc. etc….. Before all my other brothers and sisters in Christ start passing judgement on people, maybe you should go back and read the Gospels (thats the first four books of the new testament for those that don’t know). If everyone who claims Christ as their Savior just followed the words of Jesus, we could really make a difference in this world.

You make a fair point. Many pastors get carried away with doctrines such as many of the obese Zionist preaching War and unconditional support for Israel above all.. Really makes me sick to my stomach.

That being said we are living in a day in which you are either g oing to be the hunter or the hunted.. I will not lay down for all of these degenerates and perverts in whatever form. Our forefathers didn’t tolerate them either.. I believe Whites in general have been infected with a cowardly spirit.. I don‘t even know my people any longer and I’ve become somewhat ashamed of them. I suspect it’s entirely due to the overwhelming amounts of Jewish propaganda being poured into them but whatever the reason, it appers that our race is simply begging for extermination. I for one wont’ go quietly. I love a good fight. I think we need to take the fight to the degenerates and perverts. Are we not entitled to a Nation without this filth? Our forefathers demanded it.. Why can’t we demand it? Because we are weak! We are afraid! We’ve been infected with a cowardly spirit.

Say with me GA bred, Homosexuality is filthy and perverted beyond comprehension and I will not tolerate one ounce of it and it certainly will not be promoted for my children by Jewish Hollywood producers.. come on you can do it!

Perhaps when the Pro-Adultery Lobbies and the Pro-Murder Lobbies and the Pro-Theft lobbies, etc start to be as bold and belligerent as the Pro-Homosexual lobby, the Church will speak more loudly about those sins also.

Since no one seems to be trying to overturn the Biblical principles against murder (other than abortion – which surprise the church does speak against) and theft and adultery, etc I would say it is prudent to focus on combating the attacks from the Pro-Homosexuals.

Regardless of your religious beliefs I find the reactions more hateful than the child singing the song. The reactions to a child or an adult in CHURCH stating what they believe to be a truth that doesn’t agree with what someone else agrees with has become juvenile. It reminds me of dealing with my 16 and 17 year old. I don’t think you should be doing that turns into “I’m sorry you hate me so much!”. It is no different than saying you are against abortion and for a baby’s right to life. It’s hate to say it. Pointing out what you believe to be right or wrong is now hate and it’s a juvenile maneuvering to manipulate. Hate is the new Racist,Homophobic,Islamaphob, War on Women BS. Disagreement is hate so shut up and don’t disagree. The obvious redirect is painfully apparent. So lets watch as these comments go off the charts arguing what the bible says and who believes in it or doesn’t. Well done grown ups getting sucked into the“hate” debate. This is no different than the little girl who didn’t do her homework and the mom is upset because she thinks the teacher was mean for pointing it out. Some people believe homosexuality is wrong and saying so is now hate.

The same applies to to a married couple if either one is cheating and they continue to cheat on their spouse.
It is all there in the bible.

The death threats are ridiculous but I myself was bothered to hear a child so young was singing a song having to do with homosexuality and “getting into Heaven”.
If you do believe in Heaven and Hell, you also should realize the final choice of who goes where is not up to you. There are plenty of straight people in the world who have far worse sins to answer to God for than they touched somebody someplace who was the same gender as them.
The church’s definitions of right and wrong have really become skewed. Rather than teaching morality anymore, they strike me as obsessing over one type of sexual deviency.
Did the small boy sing about doing it with cows too?
Because the Bible states in the same chapter that is not okay either and the whole congregation should hear it from a toddler in case some of the church’s teenagers are guilty of it.

It sounds like they may possibly be what other denominations refer to as a “Jesus only” sect. All denominations are sects and cults anyhow. The women wear their hair up high on their heads and call it “holiness”. They are a very mean bunch of people, especially the women. I was pretty much beaten up emmotionally at one of those churches. They are meaner than hell itself. I wear my hair up on top of my head but know better and what the bible says what “holiness” is and only Jesus can do that inside you. They look entirely on the outward appearance of man and indulge in sins like gluttony and gossip. They do baptise correctly in the name of Jesus Christ but that is all they have. The rest is a bunch of man’s doctrines just like other sects. I may or may not be correct when I say that these people may be that. If they are a oneness church, they hate everybody, especially trinitarians.

first, quit giving dan savage the time of day. second? we are at war with the very forces of evil. the bigger story is holder and the IRS trying to “steer” the votes of black american church members because of obamas pro-gay stance. seems i read somewhere they did the same thing in the early stages of the Soviet Union.

Death threats are always inappropriate. Always.

But freedom has responsibilities and consequences. These are most apparent when freedom is exercised. Speaking your beliefs in public will expose you to response, both rational and not. Some of the irrational may be dangerous. Be prepared.

Quite the leap to make, Danny Boy. Bullying is bad, and if this little boy advocated violence I’d be the first to stand up with you and decry his words and his parents for making him learn them. Instead he just stated the belief he’s being taught. Don’t like it? Fine – don’t attend the church. I don’t care for much of what Islam teaches – so I don’t attend a Mosque. I don’t believe in the Book of Mormon – so I don’t attend an LSD temple. But if there’s no threat of violence, just of damnation from a God you likely don’t believe in… who cares? Freedom of speech, jerk.

The Church preaches the same type of hate and seems to be training the next generation of little nazis. It is not much of a leap to assume that the bullies learned their hate from this Pastor.

Ditto Locked. The church is entitled to their beliefs, as long as they are not promoting violence against anyone. Of course the other side immediately responds with threats of violence in retaliation. If you disagree with the church‘s message don’t attend. Don’t sit in the pews for 20 years and then denounce the message because you are running for president either.

encinom ROFL Ya the stories coming out of that town about all the homosexuals getting bullied with death threats from the five year and having to go into hiding are rampant. That is the BS of it all. That child singing that song was so hate filled and bullying the very next headline we saw was how all the homosexuals are in hiding and receiving death threats. Give me a break.

It’s a warning Steely, not hate. I don’t agree with their methodology, but biblically their message is correct. If you don’t like the message, don’t attend. Don’t call and threaten the church or the pastor.

So, answer this question for everyone. In your opinion, does the Holy Bible teach hate?

Blah… Doesn’t everyone get death threats when something gets to the media? There is always someone out there who’s britches are too tight and looking to vent on someone / anyone. Some people sure get mighty from the safety of their computer, haha… Sure you have some with a screw loose that would really act, but what can you do? There are nuts everywhere. Those will real courage stick to their beliefs regardless of any outside crybabies. Think of it this way: If some nut takes you out, at least you can look forward to Heaven where there are no gays, hahaha…

Dan Savage is really something else. I can’t help but believe in a little live and let live here. I will never have to answer to God for being gay, having an abortion or committing murder. To me those are choices a person makes. However I don‘t like the government telling it’s citizens what they can or cannot do. If it neither picks my pocket or breaks my leg….then who cares.

Pastor Jeff Sangl has fallen into the trap of shooting at the big fat targets painted on the backs’ of minority groups by socialists and communists.

The Tabernacle of Truth has been deceived into doing the bidding of the socialists. Nice job.

This “Church” has just been outed as a den of of hate. This Pastor and “Church” are no different than the Westboro Bapists.

Its nothing more than proving that Chirstianity is a religion of hate and ignorance.

Can’t judge all by some. There are so called churches that teach things that are not doctrine. Those are the churches your referring to. My church for instance doesn’t teach hate, it teaches forgiveness, which is something we all need. Everyone sins. Its just a matter of acknowledging that sin and turning to the only One who can something about it.

Your church appears to be the exception not the rule. Lately all you hear is hate and intolerance coming from the Christians. As I have said before, Ghandi was right when he said he liked Christ, but no so much Christians, they were so unlike Christ.

My church isn’t the exception, there are plenty of churches that don’t teach/preach hate and bigotry but just like most things in todays world people only concentrate on the bad. My church helps literally millions of people every year (not an exageration) believer and non and you don’t hear about that in the news ever. We have free medical outreach for Birmingham to anyone who needs it but thats not ever a cover story and my church isn’t the only one. In Matt 22: 36-40, Jesus tells us that besides loving God with all of ourselves we are to love everyone as we love ourself. He goes on to say that we are to love everyone in Matthew 5:43-48. The words of Christ are pretty clear on how we should treat people. I‘m not saying that we ignore sin but what I am saying is that peoples hearts are not going to be won by telling them that God hates them and that they’re going to hell. The God I serve loves me and you so much He willingly laid His life down for me.
