‘Church Was Not Their Thing’: New Audio From Rev. Wright’s Shocking Interview With Obama Book Author Ed Klein

Rev. Jeremiah Wright Speaks Out About Obama, Politics & More | Ed KleinEdward Klein’s new book, “The Amateur,” an unauthorized biography of President Barack Obama, makes some startling and intriguing claims. From former President Bill Clinton calling Obama an “amateur” to Rev. Jeremiah Wright alleging that he was offered hush money, the book is full of political surprises. Earlier this week, Klein gave Fox News’ Sean Hannity the three-hour recording of his discussion with Wright. The Blaze also obtained some copies of the recordings. We are currently working to obtain the raw, three-hour interview audio. The audio clips appear to showcase a man — despite his intense rhetoric — who seems genuinely saddened by his deteriorated relationship with Obama. Wright, contrary to past videos and speeches, seems calm and collected as he recounts his personal experiences over the past few years. (Related: Beck offers $150K to Wright for contents of Wright’s secret box on Obama) “It wasn’t what I expected to tell you the truth because the guy who I met did not look like the guy on the videotapes,” Klein told Hannity of his time with Wright. “He was very quiet, very polite, very measured, and talked about his academic credentials, very proud of the fact that he had a Ph.D., and answered all my questions…there was no sense that this guy could go off the deep end.” (Related: Hannity Confronts Obama Book Author Over Calling Him, Beck & O‘Reilly ’Right Wing Crazies’ in Audio Interview With Rev. Wright) Throughout his time with the author, Wright can be heard offering Klein his assessment on a variety of issues relating to the president and his 2008 campaign. The Blaze already told you aboutWright’s claim that he was offered $150,000 by a close Obama associate in exchange for his refusal to preach until after the 2008 election. In a separate portion of the discussion, Wright talked about a cardboard box that holds some intriguing contents. In it, there are numerous articles and elements related to the Obama campaign and the drama that accompanied it. One example Wright shared is an article in which David Axelrod, a key figure in the Obama camp, is quoted. The article apparently discusses how Axelrod interacted with the Rev. Otis Moss, another pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ. The topic of conversation? Figuring out how the Obamas could stay at the house of worship, while trying to distance the church from Wright. Wright also made some intriguing claims about the Obama family and its purported lack of interest in attending church. Since assuming office, the president has consistently faced criticism over his infrequent church attendance. According to Wright, this is par for the course.

“Church is not their thing. It was never their thing,” Wright says of Barack and Michelle Obama. “She was not the kind of black woman whose momma made her go to church, made her go to Sunday school…so the church was not an integral part of their lives before they got married — after they got married.”

After Wright made these comments, Klein said, “But the church was an integral part of his politics…because he needed that base.” Wright agreed with this statement, at one point saying “correct.”

Among his many other claims, Wright told Klein that a fellow faith leader approached him in 2010 to allege that it wasn’t just Republicans who were working to exploit his fiery image. The controversial pastor claimed that another preacher told him that the Hillary Clinton campaign was paying African American reverends to openly attack Wright.

With politics being a relatively dirty game, these allegations are noteworthy. Considering the fallout from Wright’s rhetoric, it is entirely possible that the Clinton camp was looking to capitalize:

In this vein, Wright and Klein discussed some of the videos that created the greatest stir among Americans — clips showing the preacher delivering some harsh words about America. There was, of course, the famed “God damn America” video that made its rounds on media and blogs, alike. In his interview with Klein, Wright claims that his words were “misused and taken out of context.”

While he made this claim — that his clips were used in a disingenuous manner — the reverend seemed to double down on his past statements. He maintained that he was used “as a weapon of mass destruction” to disparage Obama.

“That was 2001, but they picked that one ‘chicken coming home to roost.” [In] 2005, I was talking about how you confuse God and government,” he said. “Many of us have confused our government, made government God, but governments change…governments lie….God doesn’t lie.”

He then apparently told Klein he has no regrets and that he actually wishes he had said more on the subject of compassion and helping one’s fellow man (the purported issues at the heart of his well-known controversial speeches).

“God does not bless everything we do as human beings…when you oppress the widows, when you have no compassion for the poor God condemns that,” Wright proclaimed. “Why are you going to be taken back? I wish I had said more, so I had more not to take back.”

Considering the negative attention that Wright‘s sermons brought Obama as well as the pastor’s comments following the 2008 campaign (that the president him “under the bus”) the reverend made a thought-provoking claim during his discussion with Klein. “I’m on record, a year before [Obama] ran, saying that he’d have to distance himself from me,” Wright told the author. “I knew as a politician, if he’s going to play the political game, he’s going to have to distance himself from me. If you want to get elected, if you want these votes, I’m toxic.” Interestingly, this isn’t the first timeWright has called himself toxic. Furthermore, while he may feel as though Obama disparaged and abandoned him, the fact that he’s claimed that he knew there would be a separation a year before the election is noteworthy.

Now that Wright is distant from his former congregant, it‘s intriguing to hear how he views Obama’s leadership.

“We keep forgetting that Barack Obama was selected before he was elected. You didn’t select him. He’s accountable to the ones who selected him and who paid for him to be the president,” Wright said. “Why do you think Wall Street got a break? They selected him Why do you think the Big 3 got a buy-out? They selected him. Why do you think he stands up and says ‘I am a Zionist?’”

These institutions, Wright maintains, had the money to select Obama to be a Democratic nominee and to inevitably arrive in the White House:

After his selection — and subsequent election — Wright charged that Obama experienced some negative changes. Once his electoral prospects seemed to rise, Wright said that the president-to-be viewed him as a “deterrent.” During the discussion, Wright told Klein that Obama said, ”You know what your problem is. You have to tell the truth.” The faith leader maintained that this isn’t a bad problem to have and that Obama, being a politician, has transformed into an individual who is not necessarily rooted in truth. “Politicians don’t have to tell the truth. Truth is what we say it is. Well, I somehow can’t live with that,” Wright told Klein. “That’s why I could never be a politician. I think that the transformed Barack has become a politician.” When the author asked when, exactly, Obama made this so-called evolution, Wright said he believes it happened when he assumed the presidency:

These clips, of course, are only portions of the three-hour discussion that Klein had with one of America’s most controversial preachers. The highlights, while they represent only one perspective, provide intriguing issues to ponder — particularly when it comes to better understanding some of the elements that surround Obama’s worldview.

On Wednesday evening, Hannity brought Klein on his television show to further expound upon “The Amateur” and to better frame some of the audio clips that are now emerging.

There‘s no way of knowing whether Wright’s perspective on these issues is accurate, but years after the fiery preacher arrived on the scene, it is certainly fascinating to hear his thoughts first-hand.

The Blaze left a voicemail for Rev. Wright’s assistant earlier today to speak further about this story. Tonight, Sean Hannity will be delving deeper into the audio interview on Fox News at 9 p.m. ET.

      Mr. Wright says Obama was selected before he was elected….and he got that exactly right.

      This is an excellent YouTube video about massive fraud which selected Obama in the 2008 Democrat primary, which gave Obama the nomination over Hillary. The entire video is worth your time, but the time from about 24:40 till the end a couple of minutes later was downright chilling to me.

      You may remember Bill Clinton’s friend and chairman of the Arkansas Democrat party being murdered in August 2008. The murderer was killed by the police on the same day as the murder. No reason for the murder was ever officially given. Bill Gwatney was going to give all of Arkansas’ delegates to Hillary Clinton at the convention, as he should, and it was still possible Hillary could be the nominee. Bill Gwatney was then murdered prior to the convention. Hillary met with Obama just prior to the Democrat Convention, and at the convention said all of her delegates were being given to Obama. Rebecca Gwatney, Bill Gwatney’s wife, then gave the Arkansas delegates to Obama. The look on her face as she did something she hated to do, (I believe), is very telling of the apparent criminality involved in the “selection” of Obama.

    Why does this article not mention the part of the tape where Wright says he made it easier for Obama to come to terms with Christianity while not throwing off his Muslim background.

      While I agree it would be interesting to see peoples reaction to Obama declaring that he is muslim, I seriously doubt it would have much of an impact on those that have drank the liberal coolaid. Considering all the things he and his administration have screwed up over the last three and a half years, and there are people that still love him, there is little hope for died-in-the-wool liberals. Having said that, neither Obamas nor Romney religion should be a matter of consideration in the coming election. As I have said before, this is a choise between socialism and being subjects of the state or maintaining our democratic republic and personnal rights and freedom.

    Louis Farrakhan also said that Obama was *selected* not elected and now Wright is using the same speech.
    Something is up. Too many of Obama’s most ardent, vocal and militant supporters are *suddenly* turning against him. Outing him as much less than the perfect first black President. Why?

    Chomsky, Farrakhan, Wright………..I keep waiting for the next shoe to fall. Who and what is next and how is this all part of Obama’s puppet masters plans for the destruction of America. I do believe that it is all tied ino the election, the need for an event to disrupt or stop completely any chance for Obama to be ousted.

      Michigan and Florida (and John Edwards) were the excuse for the DNC super delegates to “select” him.

      Hillary Clinton’s campaign has never ceased.
      Emails -for one reason or another- from (wink wink) Patty Murray, Bill Clinton and Chelsea have continued to be sent to anyone who contributed to Hillary’s presidential campaign. Why?

      And, Why did George H Bush visit the White House sometime last month (or so)?
      –As WE know, Obama was not only DNC (party) selected.

    I believe Obama also went to Wright well before he ran and told him he was confused, he knew about his muslim faith and needed to know more about the terminology of the Christian faith. Not an exact quote, but isn’t that revealing! So, he has the Christian terminology down now to use it for his purposes. How little we know about Obama. I hope the vetting continues.

      Obama is a user. He uses people, issues and agendas to glorify himself. People, gay -straight, rich –poor, young –old, they only hold value in what they can accomplish for him.

      He wears people like clothing, and discards or donnes the articles depending on their appropriateness of the event.

      If “Christianity” gets him into the club house that day, he is a Christian. If “Islam” gets him into the house that day, he is Muslim.

      Communism, because of its “moral” code (always right if it is for the “good of The State”) will make him a shape shifter, seen as whatever the audience will most readily accept. When he is called a “liar” it only heightens his self-aggrandizement as he pats himself on the back for his “self-sacrifice” for the good of The State.

      It is not his Theology that is the issue, it is his Ideology.

      He is not athiest, Christian or Muslim. The Koran and the bible both tell who he is. To Islam his number is 12. To Christianity his number is 666. Study one or the other or both. The answer is the same. God set Jesus rules. Lucifer set his sons rules. Lucifer has no rules anything goes. Hell is not a reward for O.B.aying rules. OB will announce who he is in time.       In fairness, I consider myself a Christian, I do not attend church. After sitting in church pews my entire childhood and noticing that the church remained fairly empty until Christmas, Palm Sunday, and Easter Sunday, and then you could not find a place to sit. I told myself that I would never attend a church again. Todays Christians think church is a building that is needed to worship. I believe that two or more people discussing God and Jesus Christ is a Church. Do I blame the President for not going to a building? No, but I can blame the President for not following God’s teachings. I know this man is not a Muslim because he is for “Gay Marriage”.

      Obama used Wright’s sermon words “the audacity of hope” for his (Obama’s) book title.
      Obama used Deval Partick’s words “Don‘t tell me words don’t matter. I have a dream.’ Just words. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’ Just words! ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself.’ Just words — just speeches!” .

    I heard this played on Sean Hannity radio program yesterday; yet the Blaze got more depth on the matter as well. Good to have Wrights own words to shed the truth on Obama in more and more detail; the lords of darkness are turning on one another with a vengence now, and let the people of America hear and understand the truth of the radical in the White House.

    What I have to wonder with Obama is who will turn hard on him first – Soros or the radical commies such as Farrakhan, Muslim Brotherhood, or Fox Piven and friends?

    Mind you, I want no harm to come to the POTUS, he needs to be impeached, tried in an open court so all his crimes are exposed, and if found guilty put behind bars for life.

      @IndyGuy: Yes it is, in the case of Obama and his cronies I want them to be kept as a lifetime example of what treason and corruption on such a massive scale means. Execution would only make them into potential martyrs for the radicals in the future; keep them alive but behind bars and their madness can be seen by all.
