Class Warfare: Now Obama Says ‘I Wear That Charge as a Badge of Honor’

President Barack Obama first rebuked Republicans for calling his proposed “Buffett Rule” tax rate for the wealthy “class warfare”.
“This is not class warfare. It’s math,” Obama said Monday while introducing a proposal calling for $1.5 trillion in new taxes.
But a day later, the president appeared to change his tune, seeming to embrace the “warrior” title at a fundraiser Tuesday.
“Now, you’re already hearing the Republicans in Congress dusting off the old talking points,” Obama said. “You can write their press releases. ‘Class warfare,’ they say.”
“You know what? If asking a billionaire to pay the same rate as a plumber or a teacher makes me a warrior for the middle class, I wear that charge as a badge of honor,” he continued. “I wear it as a badge of honor, because the only class warfare I’ve seen is the battle that’s been waged against middle-class folks in this country for a decade now.”

Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, chair of the House Budget Committee, was the first to level the “class warfare” charge Sunday, a day after word spread of the proposed new tax rate, named after billionaire Warren Buffett.
“Class warfare may make for really good politics but it makes for rotten economics,” Ryan said.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was similarly dismissive of the idea, inviting Buffett to “send in a check” if he’s “feeling guilty” about his tax rate.

More & more roads (I 95 in Virginia) charge toll to pay for the roads or something.
Schools don’t teach anything anymore. The drop rates are high. Most white collar jobs rely on students paying their own way through junior college, universities & trade schools. Many of these are private. I use to laugh at DeVry. Boy, was I wrong. I now think DeVry might save this nation from bad public schools. You can get through DeVry in 3 years. There is a big difference in 3 & 4 years in obtaining a degree and a job for a 20 something. The public schools (primary, secondary & collegiate ) are being run into the ground by entrenched interests.

Posted on September 21, 2011 at 4:57pm@TIFOSA – you know what’s funny, the guy building the factory pays MORE in taxes for every service she listed, and despite her one-sided rhetoric, the roads, police, firefighters, et al weren’t dedicated to the fellow building the factory.
Compared with a homeowner, the factory builder paid much more in property taxes, will pay the employer side of all the payroll taxes for hundreds of employees, will consume Laredo amounts of taxable energy (oil, electricity, gasoline/diesel, natural gas), etc. The factory builder has much more skin in the game than his homeowner neighbors, yet he gets no special thanks for his ‘contributions’ – he is instead told his payments are not enough, don‘t represent his ’fair share’.
When you craft a piece of legislation to target 99.3% of tax filers, how is it not pitting class against class? If I target a piece of legislation at 7% of the population, it’s an assault on the GLBT community. Target 20% of Americans, and it is an assault on minorities. Target a bill on 51% of the population and I‘m assaulting women’s rights.
There are 1,400 million-dollar filers that pay no taxes – how is that possible? You can only deduct so much in medical expenses, so much on mortgage deductions, etc – might it be, might it just be that these million dollar a year earners are DONATING large portions of their income to charity? Is THAT the activity the Gov’t is going after? Apparently the answer is yes – since POTUS wants to cap charitable deduct

Well I did. was doing fairly well for myself until about 3 and half years ago. Hmmm,, you seem intelligent with your posts so sure you can figure out what happened shortly before that. Between myself and one other contractor friend that I worked closely with, we had employed up to 30 people. There was plenty of work then. Since then though, we have had some ridicules regulations thrown at us, supply costs go thru the roof, the economy all but stop in the commercial world and last but not least the people I do know that have money to build and develop areas are waiting. None of us here now what the circus in DC plans on doing. So, while we sit and wait, there are 30 people sitting home or hopefully found other employment and I find it hard to employ myself anymore.

I figure if Warren Buffet pays the same percentage of his income as I pay of mine, then he is STILL going to be paying a lot more than me, savvy? Of course that is certainly NOT what the Eared One has in mind, no matter what the Liar-in-Chief said. If he has his way, “the rich” will be paying all but a small percentage of their income into the Federal till so he will have still MORE money to waste on $16 muffins, vacation trips to Martha’s Vineyard, etc.
