Clinics Offer Sunday Abortion Discounts to Counter Churches’ Pro-Life Protests

Back in November, we told you that an Orlando-based clinic was offering discounts on abortions that were performed on Sundays. Months later, the Orlando Women’s Center is continuing this practice, with a new coupon that extends the invitation for $50 off a Sunday abortion through April 1, 2013 (unfortunately, although the deal ends on April Fool’s Day, it isn’t a joke).

Recently, The Christian Post explored this issue, examining whether clinics like the Orlando Women’s Center are purposely choosing a day on which many Americans attend churches to offer the disturbing discounts. According to the outlet, this day has been chosen in an effort to respond to church-led protests against abortion clinics that are sometimes held on Sunday afternoons.

According to Michael Martelli, executive director of the Maryland Coalition for Life, a group that opposes abortion, these Sunday discounts are commonplace. He also corroborates the notion that they are offered intentionally to combat Christian grievances with clinic operations and abortion in general.

“I don’t think there is any coincidence…abortion facilities are facing increasing presence from Christians praying during business hours, and are having to change up their business hours to try to avoid the attention,” he said.

Now, here’s an even more surprising tidbit. Martelli also said that the practice of collecting funds to help others secure abortions is an increasing phenomenon. Take, for instance, the web site Fund Abortion Now, which helps women across the nation pay for the procedure. Here’s a brief synopsis, in the group’s own words, of its work to help “women and girls” secure abortions:

The National Network of Abortion Funds works to make sure that all women and girls can get the abortions they seek.

If you are a woman looking for help paying for an abortion, we are here today to help you get what you need. The 100+ local abortion funds in our organization help women pay for abortions they can’t otherwise afford.

If you are an activist with an abortion fund, we are here to make sure that you have all the tools you need to help the women in your community. We provide training, one-on-one support, and expertise.

So, in addition to Sunday discounts, there are also funds that help young girls and women obtain abortions. Let us know what you think about these developments in the comments section, below.

    Why don’t these women use birth control, or better yet, just say no to sex? It‘s not the Baby’s fault these women have no will power or common sense. Why don’t more of these woman choose to give birth and adopt out the babies? A Baby should not have to die, due to the woman’s stupidity and selfishness.

      So people ONLY have a right to live if they can what…live on their own, breathe on their own, take care of themselves, what? Interesting standard. You better hope society doesn’t use the same standard if you are ever in the hospital or infirmed and need to depend on someone else to survive. I seem to remember another society where your ideology was put into practice in the 1930s.

      This is a living CHILD we are talking about. You seem to have some form of consideration for life to be protected, so what is it about “birth” that all of a sudden makes a life worth saving? From the moment of conception all the genetic material exists to grow into a full human, and only nourishment and oxygen are necessary. This CHILD is not simply “part” of the mother, it is and independent life that is dependent on the mother for survival. BIG difference.

      If this is “life”, as you seem to not dispute, this life deserves due process, and be afforded the same rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…whether dependent or not on someone else.

      If someone needs a blood transfusion to live and I’m the only person that has suitable blood type (IE, if I don’t donate that person dies), I am not obligated to donate. You can say what you want about my moral compass, but I do not have to go out of my way and affect my life because some other person depends on me for theirs. You can’t make someone save a life. If I decide I don’t want to sustain that individual it is my RIGHT and prerogative to not do so.

      In the same vein, the Mother is no obligated to affect her life to keep some other developing human life alive.

      Even more pertinent, I don’t consider it alive until it can live on its own. A little Linear Temporal Logic for you:
      Let the function Birth() evaluate if a given element e inset P:={The set of all people} has been “born”
      Let function Life() evaluate if a person e inset P is “alive”

      Birth(e) => FLife(e)

    I don’t agree with the practice, but who are we to tell a woman what she can or cannot do with her own body? It doesn’t affect me or anyone other than her. She’s the one who will have to live with her decision. I’m glad I live in a place that allows such freedoms, even the ones I don’t condone.

      There’s just one thing wrong with your thought, it doesn’t just affect the woman. There’s another person involved, her baby. There’s a beating heart in there and stopping that heart equates to murder. As much as I feel for women who find themselves in difficult situations, it‘s not the baby’s fault. We need to do more to help these women through their difficult times. I‘ve known 4 people who’ve had abortions and they’ve never gotten over it. It hurts women psychologically, and physically sometimes. One of these people could never have children after that. Needless to say it has done a number on her. In short, it does way more harm than good to all involved.

      Have you thought about the repercussions society reaps from so many emotionally wounded women?

      Many think that a another person’s personal choices do not affect them. This is a misconception. Drug use, alcoholism, abortion, child abuse, divorce, homosexuality, etc., all have consequences for society.
      People who are dealing with these issues go out into society and interact with others. Relationships, co-workers, neighborhoods, and relatives all have to deal with the person who is changed by their personal choices.

      Many women are brainwashed into thinking that abortion is merely removing a blob of tissue. They are frightened and some are lost, or being taken advantage of by a man. I don’t think it is fair to call a woman a savage. She is also a child of God and can receive forgiveness for her sins. And it never helps to condemn a person who may seek forgiveness at some time in her life. We are all sinners.

      It is important to let people know that God loves them, in order for them to see the light and seek repentence.

      While I truly do understand your outrage at the whole concept of abortion itself, let alone this tactic of resorting to advertising an abortion at a discounted rate if performed on a Sunday Only, I feel compelled to respond. I am a 58 year old woman who has had 4 abortions. I am now a Bible believing Christian. Throughout the 20 some year period in which I chose abortion as the answer to unwanted pregnancies, I was unaware of the truth. Shortly before the age of 38 I began my life’s walk with the Lord. Thankfully, when I became pregnant at 38, God had opened my eyes enough to know that I could no longer willingly choose to murder my own child. I gave birth to my 2nd child, a
      beautiful little girl, and said “No” to abortion. My story is too long for this space, but please take time to consider that like myself, many (not all) of the young women who unknowingly choose abortion as a solution, are not “despicable, murdering savages, with shriveled rotting souls.” Many are just young, hurting, and confused, with no knowledge of the truth. And I believe that all the hateful comments and opinions of those who judge them, does little to address the core base of this horrendous sin. The abortion issue, like so many other SERIOUSLY dangerous issues of our day, is not resolved with hateful speech. I ask you to please, take a quiet moment to ask God to search your heart. My Bible states that, “for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God,…” (Romans 3:23)

      Please know that the God of the Bible is a God of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. For those who have sinned in this way, who are truly contrite and repentant, and confess these sins to your God, you have God’s promise to receive His forgiveness. There exists no sin against God whereby His grace is insufficient to cover us through faith…short of rejecting the source of our faith in the Holy Spirit. If you still doubt that God will ever forgive you, this in itself is evidence of having faith, and therefore you have the assurance God has already forgiven you through Christ Jesus our Lord.

    You know how obummer is dictating this and dictating that… well since the President has all this power, what if Romney dictates some new requirements… some new ‘license fees’ for abortion providers… causing the prices to skyrocket? Additional inspectors, fines for any abnormal conditions… you know, like how the EPA fines people $100,000+ for BS… and shuts them all down…

    WHAT IF ROMNEY HARASSES ABORTION (DEATH) MILLS LIKE THE EPA HARASSES FARMERS? He could just argue he wants ‘safe’ abortions… and after all you don’t women being cut on with dirty surgical tools, do you??

Oh and by the way, you can’t just “kick” people out for being pro choice.
