Clippers’ Griffin Leaps Car to Win Dunk Contest

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Blake Griffin leaped over a car and threw down a two-handed dunk to the accompaniment of a gospel choir, winning the slam dunk contest in iconic style before his hometown fans on All-Star Saturday.
The Los Angeles Clippers rookie caught a pass out of the sunroof from teammate Baron Davis and easily cleared the 2011 Kia Optima’s hood while the Crenshaw Select Choir sang “I Believe I Can Fly” at midcourt.
The inventive slam drove home the obvious point of the All-Star weekend’s silly Saturday: Griffin has both the raw athleticism and the showtime flair to be the NBA’s next big star.
Finalist Javale McGee of Washington and Toronto‘s DeMar DeRozan didn’t stand a chance despite their own inventive dunks at Staples Center.

Posted on February 20, 2011 at 9:45amNBA is riding a bubble too, their only hope is the Asian fan base. Of course that means that NIKE will have to stop making a 700% profit on shoes & start paying the Chicom workers more than 2 “dolla” a day.

Posted on February 20, 2011 at 5:33amYeah, the NBA is boring, but you still have to appreciate talent & creativity. I was interested to see which web site that I normally visit for “news” would include highlights from this event… as is usually the case, The Blaze was ahead of the curve… keep up the good work!

Posted on February 20, 2011 at 4:27amSince the And one tour and there Globtrooter antics, the NBA has lost their way..They cry about highschoolers entering the draft but they expand to a point where every marginal European Basketball player is now in the NBA…Sort of like a global NBA..Which is wrong and fans know it..In the days of Jordan..No one was allowed to stroll into the paint and dunk at will..There were enforcers on every team that were willing to lay them out..Now a days the games are just glorified layup lines..You dunk..I dunk..We all make big dough..Silly..If the NBA wanted to return to the glory days they would have to cut a minimum of 4 teams..Then High schoolers would go to college and the pros that actually made teams would be forced to play defense..WOW!..Would that be a different sight!..As it is now, many NBA’ers have bad attitudes but know they can always move to another city..I say force them to play hard all the time and limit the job opportunities to a les number of teams..You would see the so called stars really play hard ifg they knew it wasn’t just a cake walk every night out..Anyway, the dunk thing is getting old..lol

Posted on February 20, 2011 at 10:52pmI love to watch stuff like that. It fascinates me how they can hit that goal every time.
One would think that I would have played basketball because I‘m 5’11″, but noooooo! Can’t hit the blooming basket. However, I rarely make a trip to the kitchen trash can — only to empty it. I throw my cans, papers, lids, jars, etc., from across the kitchen. Makes cleaning up kinda fun! Three-pointers, too! No bank shots.
