CNN Contributor Killed In Syria Shelling — Hear Her Final Report

Sad news from Syria this morning: two Western journalists have been killed as the result of a bombing from government troops in the city of Homs.

Marie Colving One of Two Western Journalists Killed In Syrian Shelling

Marie Colvin reported to CNN just last night

CNN contributor and Sunday Times of London reporter Maria Colvin and French journalist Remy Ochlik were among the 45+ civilian victims of the violence in Syria. Reuters reports that shells struck the home where the two reporters were staying.  Colvin’s last column for the Sunday Times, titled “As Casualties Rise; Where Is Nato?”, appeared over the weekend.

Colvin, from Oyster Bay, New York, had been a foreign correspondent for Britain’s Sunday Times for two decades, reporting from the world’s most dangerous places. She lost the sight in one eye in Sri Lanka in 2001 but did not let that deter her.

The shelling in Homs has become so dangerous that CNN pulled its own crews out of the region earlier in the day and the network was relying on telephone reports from contributors.

Colvin‘s last report for CNN was filed just last night on Anderson Cooper’s program. Calling the bombing “relentless,” Colvin wondered why nothing was being done to stop the brutal attacks on the 23,000 innocent, poor, starving and freezing people huddled in this city.

(Warning; the video attached contains graphic images of a baby dying after being hurt during the shelling in the city of Homs.)

As this story is still developing, we will update it as more information becomes available.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

She risked her life to report on what is really happening in the world, to show the truth of reality.

I don’t expect people who live on fantasies to understand just how important truth is.

I am not suprised that you, like so many Blazers are a heartless person. The right’s supposed love of all life and loudly professed Christianity does not extend to the lives of others who are not like them.

The cult of Islam is the enemy of all people the world over who are not muslim. If anyone here does not believe that the cult of Islam is not behind all of the unrest in the middle east, including Syria, then ya gotta be brain dead, or a truth denying liberal marxist. There is a shortage of medicine and medical professionals all around the world. A few years ago I was in Capetown for a project for a few months. My friend at the company I worked for and I volunteered several times at an AIDS orphanage in a township. The kids were 18months to 5years old. So sweet and cute! All born with AIDS. The orphanage used to lose 50% of the children every year, until a Canadian/US Christian charity started supplying them with anti-retroviral drugs. Since then, they have not lost a single child in almost 2 years.

It is not high standards you perch upon but high horse. All sites have their comedians – ignore them if it is so upsetting. The lack of compassion does come from grounded roots. As heart wrenching as it was watching a child take his last breath, this is a part of the world where they strap bombs onto their children’s chest and send them to kill, that murders innocent civilians on a daily bases and persecutes religions that are not Islamic. They riot and kill because their holy book is burned yet burning churches, with people in them, is OK. They hang people for being homosexual, murder people who have the audacity to convert to Christianity and stone women for almost any reason.

The death of the journalist, while tragic, also demonstrates the futility of her death. Obama’s stance will not change because she died covering this story, the UN will still do nothing except mouth condemnation with no teeth and the Arab world, which are the ones that should step up to the plate, will continue to turn its back on the slaughter in its backyard. I feel this is a story worth covering and she was brave enough to cover it but if she wanted to bring attention to the atrocities in Syria so that the world will act, she failed and her life was wasted. People have valid reasons for not caring about this story. I may disagree but to not recognize why they feel as they do is judgmental. Didn’t the Bible say something about that as well.

I always get mad at myself for reading the comments. I don’t know why it still surprises me. I don’t feel like my disappointment or feeling of sadness is a judgment but I can see how someone would feel judged. I know wickedness prevails in that part of the world. Your high horse comment was harsh and unnecessary. The internet is a cruel place and enables men and women to be mean spirited. In reality you know nothing about me.

The lack of compassion and love demonstrated on this and every website is so disheartening. “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.“ ”By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” John 13:34-35

This is complicity with evil. How can we be swayed by the rhetoric assad makes that these are terrorists? Whatever they are -they‘re people and they’re being murdered en masse by a nazi like regime. That’s all that is relevant here.Where is our humanity?Where are our drones/?They’re all over the mid east-why can‘t we use them against assad’s palace and military ? where is our humanity/?Oh and i heard the christians are siding with assad how can christians condone this holocaust of men women and children including the use of torture and now starvation? All you gulls do is hear that christians side with this nazi and you side with them.and then you wonder why there are tensions in the mid east between muslims and christians.if christians support brutal dictators they are not victims .Right now that’s all beside the point-we have to stop this slaughter now! Please -where is our decency-how can we see these images every day and call this a civil war? how dishonest is that? were the stalinist purges a civil war? was the holocaust in europe a civil war/?Please -now is the time to intervene.God is watchin

I just can’t tolerate all you conspiracy theorists out there who continually beat the drum that Obammie abandoned Syria just because he owed the Iranian mullahs big time for their 2008 “Internet contributions.” I guess that you‘ll try to convince me that he still won’t make a move because the mullahs have pledged to contibute big time to Obammie’s 2012 campaign.

    That’s just so much BS.

The next thing you‘ll try to champion is that the drone that landed intact in Iran was part of Obammie’s payback; and, that our premature withdrawal from Iraq was designed to essentially hand Iraq to the Iranian mullahs on a silver platter.

You knuckleheads! Nobody is going to believe that a U.S. President would sell out to the Iranian mullahs and treat them just like another political special interest group! No way, man, no way!

CNN puts its (mostly) EuroJewish reporters in hot spots that only the Corporate/Military-Industrial/Zionist feel is in their interests to “inform” the US citizenry of. It’s a Civil War in Syria(instigated by US($ Facebook, and PeaceCorps, and obviously the Israelis. Last I checked, people die in Civil Wars. Our country is supposedly tryig to“recover” economically from a 10 YEAR+ war(Iraq/Afghan), and now the media(Soros/Blomberg/Murdoch) wants US to fight 2 more costly wars with Syria and Iran? Who’s going to foot the bill? And where’s the benefit from the Iraq/Afghan wars besides more poppy plants which =Pharmaceutical drugs from Afghan, and a giant spy base in Iraq. Standing around watching babies die..is that ok because they are christians? Isn’t Syria one of those places we throw billions of money at?
Obama should get off his butt and at least make a statement decrying such violence. If he does not, then he is complicit. Isn‘t he the great ’peacemaker’? Wonder how much was paid for that prize because he sure did not and does not do anything to deserve it.

Isolationism didn’t keep us out of either World War. The failure of isolationist logic is that America is going to be blamed no matter what we do.

If we go, we’re killing innocent women and children. If we don’t go, we’re letting someone else kill innocent women and children. It’s a textbook no-win situation.

I’m probably gonna get skewered for the position, but if I was in the Big Chair, I’d send troops.

IMO, it’s better to be blamed for something we did and know we saved lives than do nothing and be blamed for letting some tin pot dictator take lives.

Whydo you parrot the zionists media propaganda that this is a civil war? how blind are you? This a people rising up against a brutal dictator-nothing more. a civil war means armed opposing sides fighting each other. These people are being massacred and now starved for demonstrating against the regime. The regime is the military backing assad. The people are barely armed.Where are their tanks and missles?calling this a civil war is propaganda that assad wants you to buy into.i suspect israel wants syria to remain undrer assad so that as part of an axis of evil-the sportlight is never on israeli policies. The last thing neo cons want is a free middle east-expecially syria as syria is a foil for continued occupation of arabs.hezbollah and hamas support the people-not assad and that goes against your narrative about evil hamas and hezbollah which allows you to support zionist occupation and the 67annexation of jerusalem.if iran backs syria and we want to topple irans government you’d think now is an opportunity to get two birds with one stone-going after assad is just and if iran steps in to help assad we have cover for going after them too.Apparently the neocon zionists want assad to remain in power.-even if he resorts to a holocaust of civilians.unbelivable.

Then in a few months when the “UN” has gotten everything under control they can scream about the US policing the world and how we have to come together and give the syrians everything they want and then step out of the way. Sounds a bit like the early 80s in Afghanastan to me. So, if it our job to save these peopl, then why are we not saving the people of Darfur.

They can’t.Its all about conducting a indirect financial jihad. We are in a no win situation or at least they think we are.By causing creating and contributing to an alledged uprising they want to give grounds for the us to enter.Commitment of our troops money and machinery.[Financial Hook}.If we fail then we are considered callous cold blooded and worse.[Retaliation Jihad].If you will notice that most of the genuine uprisings[if anything in that region can be considered genuine]are being perpetrated by the civilians. They don’t want help. They want us out of it.See they know what their own corrupt governments and mullahs are up to.Its also why the militant military crackdown.Never let a good crisis go to waste. They aren’t and are using it to set the ploy[innocent lives lost which is true].
The muslim brotherhood and the military are in bed together in those countries.Even if we were to engage the end would be same. They have falsely engineered the game and the outcome. Its calculation is but one, cause as much loss of life to american troops and drain the us’s wallet in the process.

Interesting that CNN uses a flattering, 30 year old photo of the former journalist. Bashar al-Assad is killing the fundamentalist radicals who bring their infants to a violent political rally to die for political purposes. What wonderful, enlightened people.

syria is secular-there are not many fundamentalists there. But the zionists and assad want you to believe there are.and even if every person rising up against this dictator were fundamentalist-it is still evil what assad is doing to them and we are morally obliged to stop this virtual holocaust against men, women and children.i don’t care what their religion is.how blinded by ideology can you get?you talk like the nazis yoursel fwhen in the face of a holocaust of men women and children you tell us about what you believe their religion is!
