CNN Fires Anchor Rick Sanchez After Remarks About Jews & Jon Stewart

CNN has moved quickly and cut ties with veteran news anchor Rick Sanchez who made some edgy comments on a radio program Thursday. Sanchez called “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart a bigot and expressed observations about Jewish roles in American media and society. Mediaite’s Steve Krakauer is now reporting that CNN has released this statement:

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

Our initial report describes the scenario on the radio show:

Appearing on Pete Dominick’s satellite radio show, Sanchez railed against “elite, Northeast establishment liberals“ who ”deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.” He then lumped the Comedy Central hosts into that group, and especially went after Stewart:

During his attack on Stewart, the radio host pointed out that Stewart is Jewish and pressed Sanchez for examples of bigotry.  Sanchez demurred but revealed a possible motivation for the attack: “That‘s what happens when you watch yourself on his show everyday and all they ever do is call you ‘stupid.’”

Sanchez then talked about Jewish influence in the media — even at CNN:

Very powerless people… [snickers] He’s such a minority, I mean, you know [sarcastically]… Please, what are you kidding? … I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they — the people in this country who are Jewish — are an oppressed minority? Yeah. [sarcastically]

TV Newser points out:

It was just last Friday that Sanchez’s boss CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein was shown the door.  In his first major personnel decision, Sanchez’s dismissal was handled by new CNN/U.S. president Ken Jautz. Sanchez anchored the 3-5pmET block on CNN called “Rick’s List.” CNN Newsroom will run in its place beginning Monday.  Until last Wednesday, Sanchez had also hosted an 8pmET edition of “Rick’s List.”

TV Newser also notes that Sanchez’s appearance on the radio show was part of the PR tour for his new book, “Conventional Idiocy.” Exactly.

      only way CNN/ the Coward Network news would gather even 2 new viewers is if it became the CONSERVATIVE Network News overnight. and even then, WE THE PEOPLE would know it would be all just a joke on us so they could stay afloat

    And the swing to the center has commenced. We will be seeing more and more of this in the months to come, and not just in the media. All you future newscasters and journalists that have integrity and honesty still within should start swamping the liberal media owners with resumes. maybe they will get the message and start the head rolling sooner. The sooner we win back our schools and media centers the sooner the battle to save our country will be won. this November is just the beginning of a long, difficult and very trying road ahead. we will all have to bear hardships public, union together.

    We need to reverse the path the potus and political elites has set, cut all social programs and yes those union pensions will have to go. we can save what we can for those that are near retirement but those with the ability to rebuild will have to accept it . BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO DO IT ALONE WE ARE ALL AMERICANS AND WE WILL HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER. Union non union black white male female we are one nation and we must never be divided. we can survive this by working hard, and taking it upon ourselves to help those who are in need ourselves and not let them only depend on the government. that is why we are where we are we need to help each other because that is what is required. I will start by taking my own advice. I am unemployed myself, been for 8 months but i am disgusted with myself for wallowing is self pity. i no of many who are having a harder time and i am going to do something about it

    i am capable of fixing anything so im starting with a neighbor who cant get her car fixed she is 67 a widow and cant afford the repair bill. so tomorrow im going to go fix it for her then im going to my church and putting up a notice on the bulletin board and at all the local grocery stores offering my services to those in need for free. If we look out for those in need our needs will also be met by divine providence

      God Bless You and your work. I hope your idea will spread all over this country because we need more charitable people. I am handicapped and my neighbor goes out of her way to make more yard work for me..her husband is a preacher–don’t u know–and I sure could use a neighbor like you. In the meantime, I will continue to reach out to my OTHER neighbors, even if it’s just with a smile and a hello. And when times get bad (as we know they will), I will be there to do what I can…provide food , blankets or a roof to cover someone’s head–to ALL my neighbors and whomever I can. I pray for America and God’s protection for us all.

      I have great respect for you…. to put this on the blog here and you have given me renewed faith in the American Spirit… Americans are different from the world in that way.. we are neighbors not confrontational competitors… and the most generous people in the world because we know…. Divine Providence and have experienced the truth of: We serve the God of more than enough. Itr doesn‘t matter what’s happening around us, it doesn‘t matter what’s happening in the economy, it doesn‘t matter what’s happening in the stock market, God is able to provide for us. Notice what the Bible says at Psalms 37:19: “In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.” God is good… WE THE PEOPLE acknowledge that…. so we take a leap of fath and sow a seed.     How DARE Sanchez call it like it is! His contract specifically stated that the Left was off limits. He had to be fired immediately before any resemblance of balance started seeping into CNN programming.

    I am guessing Sanchez will be publishing a tell-all about his time at CNN very soon. Maybe we will all get an inside look at how a media outlet goes from #1 in the world to an irrelevant joke in a matter of a decade.

    I think that he knew that he was going out the door before he made the statement. He had to blame someone for his low ratings so he chooses Stewart, Jews, and the bigots at CNN. Wait and see, he will sue CNN for firing him for being a minority.

    Removing Sanchez restores some of my faith in the credibility of CNN. For them to make this decision shows that they are cognisant of some of the problems within their reportage.
    They need to refine their frequent contributors list a bit to make me a real believer.

      I’m an American born in Cuba too. Can’t believe that loser lasted as long as he did. How could he, a Cuban be a leftist? Does he think communism was successful in Cuba? “The Giver” is a great little book by Lois Lowry. The character by that name is the only one who holds all the memories of how things were. I feel we will all be “the giver” to some extent for our children and grands. Hope I’m wrong and this country will survive this attack of the zombies! One zombie is gone from CNN but there are many more.

There is a constant “chip” on that cynnical little snot’s shoulder with everything he covers. I thought he was supposed to be the interviewer for AhMcnutjob. I wonder what happened?       WISEPENNY: How on Earth could any of you compare Shep to Sanchez? I watch Fox in the afternoon with regularity and read the blogs. I have never….I mean NEVER seen anything remotely controversial that Shepard Smith has said. A little sarcastic?..Yes, but never out of line.

      I turn off Fox when Shep comes on… only keep it on during his 2 hours if he has subs… don’t like him one bit… he has a chip on his shoulder big time on many of his stories…. perhaps they need to keep him for the “fair and balanced”, but I don’t watch him… his coverage of the oil spill was what really did it for me… I don’t like him at ALL!!!!

      I was watching Shep’s show when he was showing Ahmadidntdoajob live at the UN. Shep was pissed because of the remark about 9/11. I knew right then and there Shep wouldn’t interview this piece of “crap”………………………..I was rather surprised however, that Shep even considered interviewing Ahmawedonthavegays at all, seeing as how he’s Gay…….can‘t imagine keeping one’s cool just on that issue alone……………?????? Puzzling.

      Agree with you GuardianForce. What does CNN care about what their anchors say about a Comedy Central host? Especially on a satellite radio show that no one has heard of … or heard. They were looking for a reason to fire him (reality check for all at CNN) and probably even set him up with up.

      This ******* came from Fox affiliate WSVN in Miami. Locally known as “the bug eyes” due to their excitement and overexaggeration of the news. (all they lacked was clown makeup) They also were the first channel to go to 24hr coverage of approaching hurricanes – regardless of how far out they were or odds of hitting the area. They also called the cone of possibility the “Cone of Death!”

      My favorite line from Sanchez in the interview —> “I have feelings.” I’m sure Pat would be quick to point out that the poor man who Rick KILLED during his DUI had feelings too. And poor Rick wants people to consider other people’s feelings and the feelings of their children when saying stuff about them. Ummm, earth to Rick, did YOU ever consider the feelings of Tania and the kids when you said idiotic nonsense about Glenn? And I can’t wait to relive all the “best of” Rick clips during Monday’s 4th Hour. I’ll bet there is a new Stu Blog being written right now!

      I have to say kudos to CNN. Not that I had anything personal against Rick Sanchez although I did not agree with his politics. But the fact is that he was half-baked as a journalist – opinionated and full of himself, much more interested in promoting himself and the left party line than actual reporting.

      now – HOW ABOUT ANOTHER LOOK AT PAUL BEGALA, CNN? (Are you listening?)

      Seriously, if your are going to thin the heard based on bias – you really need to do away with the talking heads at CNN and get some real commentators there. THAT is why your ratings are in the toilet.

      Watched Jon Stewart say someting about the “The sluttiest nun in the convent” and Bill Maher say all Christians are morons last night on O’reilly. But let someone say anything about the Jews and he’s done. What he said wasn’t even offensive. Just that the Jewish people are heavily represented in the entertainment business.
