CNN Host Resorts to Name-Calling in Twitter Bash Fest

It really is the era of new media. We’ve showed how newscasters file stories via Twitter and say stupid things via Twitter. Now journalists just fight via Twitter.

An what can only be described as an epic, sixth-grade style bash fest, new CNN anchor, and Larry King replacement, Piers Morgan and local New York newsman John Schiumo duked it out via Twitter over New York City’s response to the recent snowstorm.

Morgan began things by telling New Yorkers to “calm down” their anger, and said the city’s response would have been considered quick in his home country of England. That’s when Schiumo called Morgan an “ass.” And that’s when they both went all middle school on each other (transcript via Mediaite):

MORGAN: Msg to New Yorkers hammering mayor Bloomberg – if we had 20in blizzard in London, nothing would move for a month. Calm down.

MORGAN: What the attacks on Bloomberg tell me is that Americans expect a higher level of service than we Brits, and usually get one. I admire that.

MORGAN: Not defending Bloomberg – just pointing out that way NYC has recovered from 20in blizzard would be deemed miraculous in UK, not disastrous.

SCHIUMO: New 9pm CNN host @piersmorgan tweeted “Msg to New Yorkers hammering mayor Bloomberg. Calm down.” Welcome to my time slot, ass. Game on.

MORGAN: @Schiumo Sorry Mr Schiumo, but a) I’ve never heard of you and b) I don’t view local news anchors with just 700 followers as rivals.

SCHIUMO: @piersmorgan You judge people based on followers? And CNN trusts you? Your ego will be your demise. And I only heard of you last month.

MORGAN: @Schiumo When a news anchor’s tweets outnumber his followers, there’s a problem John. A big problem….

SCHIUMO: @piersmorgan When a news network hires a British hack, there’s a bigger problem Piers. A bigger problem…

MORGAN: @Schiumo ‘Oi beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.’ Shakespeare.

SCHIUMO: @piersmorgan When a news network hires a British hack, there’s a bigger problem Piers. A bigger problem…

SCHIUMO: People! Stop following me or @piersmorgan and other pompous “journalists” might think I have credibility.

MORGAN: @Schiumo ‘Oi beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on.’ Shakespeare.

SCHIUMO: Oh, @piersmorgan. It took your producers 45 minutes to look up a quote to make you look even more arrogant and foolish?

MORGAN: @Schiumo Are you the least followed news anchor on Twitter in America?

SCHIUMO: @piersmorgan Your obsession with followers is telling. And scary. Speaks volumes on the state of national “news” networks.

MORGAN: @Schiumo Ssshhhh. You’ve added 100 followers since I ripped you. I’m doing you a massive favour mate.

SCHIUMO: @piersmorgan And you’ve lost all respect. It’ll be fun watching your show tank.

MORGAN: @Schiumo You’re like Stephen Baldwin and Vinny Pastore – they thought they were big shots in NY too until I wiped them in Celeb Apprentice.

MORGAN: @Schiumo Bye John. At least people will watch my show.

SCHIUMO: @piersmorgan Bye Piers. And that sound you hear is New York laughing at you.

MORGAN: @Schiumo Which is one thing it’s never done to you Schumy old son.

Morgan went on to call Schiumo a “non-entity” in two condescending final tweets:

I did not know Twitter does not have a profanity filter, like so many other blog sites star out vowels in offensive words. Maybe they will consider implementing one now. Call it the “Olberman Rule”.

Obama’s reign of audacity ends in 751 days, if not sooner.

The media looking more and more like the The British Invasion.. look around you..it isn’t us its the pond skippers. They are our allies, but why are they now beginning to fill more and more media jobs? If Piers was smart he would keep his trap shut about how good we have compared to the Brits, that that does is remind us he just took another Americans job, especially from the media whom are the cast of thousands out there. Piers is some judge on some lame show and he gets Larry Kings slot…What is wrong with that picture?!? Most fill-ins on fox are filled by whom? Most fill ins on CNN are from where?

But I guess I can not blame them as their country is being handed over to a radical religious sect….

That‘s because we’re fooled by their accents into thinking they are smarter than us! What… it isn’t working?

Yeah, I lived in Britain for 6 1/2 years and believe me, we should not be setting their standards as our bare minimum. Brits think their gravity-fed hot water systems in their homes are more than adequate since they were good enough for the Romans until they try an American style system then you can’t get them out of your house! Took me two years to get around to upgrading my hot water system in Britain to meet MY standards and during that time my #1 priority with every visit back to the States was TAKE A SHOWER! Felt SO good to get the shampoo out of my hair!

As for snow clearing, yeah… If you can’t make it go away by throwing salt on it then it stays. At least they don’t bust you for not clearing your sidewalk — anyone falling and hurting themselves after you’ve cleared you walk becomes YOUR problem. Someone falling on an uncleared walk is considered an “act of God”.

So, no… Much of Europe is still living in the Medieval period and there they shall stay until they get with the program and adopt OUR Constitution!

      @Knot

Its not that the “Brits accept mediocrity”. What Morgan is referring to is the fact that London, and most cities in England, woud be under-equipped to deal with such a snow fall due to the fact it rarley if ever snows that much. It wouldn’t make much sense fiscally to maintain an expansive fleet of snow plows and grit spreaders on the off chance of a freak blizzard. Add in the fact that London is a very old city with very narrow streets in numerous sections with no room to actually plow that amount of snow to, it would indeed be a miracle to quickly get the city back to normal operation.
