CNN:
President Barack Obama’s overall approval rating has dropped below 50 percent as a growing number of Americans worry that the U.S. is likely to slip into another Great Depression within the next 12 months, according to a new national poll.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Wednesday also indicate that the economy overall remains issue number one to voters, with other economic issues – unemployment, gas prices and the federal deficit – taking three of the remaining four spots in the top five.
These number can‘t be good for President Obama’s reelection plotters. More importantly they send powerful signals about the authentic fears gripping large numbers of Americans. Here‘s CNN’s Eliot Spitzer:
The Osama bin Laden bump is now officially gone. We’re back to “It’s the economy, stupid” as the driver of things political. At least for the moment.
So here is how CNN breaks down the “Great Depression” results:
Forty-eight percent say that another Great Depression is likely to occur in the next year – the highest that figure has ever reached. The survey also indicates that just under half live in a household where someone has lost a job or are worried that unemployment may hit them in the near future. The poll was conducted starting Friday, when the Labor Department reported that the nation’s jobless rate edged up to 9.1 percent.
“The poll reminded respondents that during the Depression in the 1930s, roughly one in four workers were unemployed, banks failed, and millions of Americans were homeless or unable to feed their families,” says Holland. “And even with that reminder, nearly half said that another depression was likely in the next 12 months. That’s not just economic pessimism – that’s economic fatalism.”
According to the survey, more than eight in ten Americans say that the economy is in poor shape, a number that has stubbornly remained at that level since March.

Even PBS is acknowledging that the economy is becoming a bigger and bigger problem for President Obama:

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 12:57amI remember the last war we were in. I was working in retail management. My pay dropped 66%. No-one came in the stores,
Report Post »we stood around and watched the bombings. I had senority and wasn’t let go. The store finally went under, and I stayed on the ship until it sank completely. I wasn’t active in the church, and didn’t know about food storage, and lived off flour, water, oil, oranges and honey for two months. I lost my car too and fortunately had a bike.
This will be worse, much worse.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 12:35amWell, with Mr. Obama‘s ObamaCare unconstitutionally forcing people who don’t want buy health-care insurance to buy it, the unemployment rate still hovering at 9.1% (which is actually somewhere around 18% to 23%, give or take), the fact that he initiated the Libyan War without seeking approval from Congress and allowing it to last more than two months, and the fact that Barack Obama‘s presidency is illegitimate due to the fact that he wasn’t born in the U.S. (I know all too well I’m going to be labeled a “birther” for this and then attacked severely), I really can’t wait to vote Mr. Obama out when it comes election season of next year. Posted on June 9, 2011 at 9:52amThere is only one problem with Obama trying to declare martial law. He would have to get the military to back him and I can tell you first hand, that will never happen. Only 20% of the military claim to be Democrats, even fewer call themselves Liberals. When you serve in the military and feel the Commander in Chief could care less about you like when Clinton was POTUS and now with Obama you will not back a move like that.

I agree with your statement…to a point. But, will the military feel the same if martial law is declared under the guise of “the American People Need You” (ala WWII recruitment posters).
“There is rioting in the streets, people have no food, criminals run amok, our infrastructure is in tatters etc etc etc. Therefore its up to you to save our country”….. yada, yada, yada.
Easy, easy for the government to create that scenario.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 12:39pmWhat the U.S. Military does won’t make a partical of difference in what is coming. The United States of America is 350 Million people spread over an entire Continent. Fully One Third of those folks will be fighting whomsoever tries to bring about Martial Law. Our Military combined with the Red Chinese and Indian Army couldn’t hold and control just the 25 largest cities, much less All the rest of it. To Declare Martial Law is one thing, but to ENFORCE it is entirely another. The U.S. Military alone couldn’t hold and control New York City, Detroit and Chicago. IF the U.N. could bring alll the troops available to it from the world over to fight, I can tell you it would take them 100 years to just deal with Texas, and that’s if the Mexicans decided to side with the Communists.
PUHLEEEZE FOLKS, take a small REALITY BREAK here. The nano second that Martial Law or anything remotely resembling it is envoked, Millions of people that have been preparing for the past 30 years, will start killing Nazi/Communists, matter not what particular uniform they are wearing at the time. Try to visualize a CONTINENT WIDE-INTERNAL FIREFIGHT taking place all at once, more or less the D.C. Snipers times a couple million ( MUCH better trained and equipped) active shooters.
So BY ALL MEANS bring on the MARTIAL LAW………………………………………….

This seemed like mighty odd behavior for an egomaniac who never met a camera or reporter‘s microphone he didn’t like (unless it was being held by a Fox NEWS staffer, of course). Then it struck me–the reason he was running from reporters was because he had not yet received his orders. They had not been transcribed onto his teleprompter, and the poor idiot did not KNOW what to say, until he was told. Once he DID get his orders he was certainly talkative enough, wasn’t he! So far, they are little better than the Democrats, and only more of the same old thing–a lot of high-falutin’ promises until they get elected, then business as usual. The only problem is, our country is in such bad shape that “business as usual” just won’t cut it, and in fact, could prove fatal. That is why we need to co-opt the Republican Party — take it away from the ‘professional politicians’ and give it back to the people! The Democratic Party is a lost cause. It has ALREADY been co-opted by the Communists and Muslims working together to bring us down. I don‘t know why the liberal idiots outside the government can’t see that. The Democratic Party as it exists today is NOTHING like the Democratic party of their fathers and grandfathers. It has become a nest of vipers that must be stamped out and NEVER given access to any amount of power in the government again. This country will not be safe until today’s Democratic party of leftist America-haters is replaced by a party of people who actually care about this country and donig right by its people. If you Liberals want a cause to work for, there it is. Are you up to the challenge, or would you rather just continue being SHEEPLE that are being meekly led to the slaughter?

Report Post »The GOP has to compromise to get anything done. When bills finally get to POTUS and he signs them and then says he won’t abide by them there is no hope for change.
Our only real hope (and it is hope only as there is no guarantee the GOP won’t revert to RINO-ism) is to control at least the legislative and executive branch (house, senate, presidency).
In 2012 there are another 25 seats on the blue side coming up for re-election. There is also a presidential election. If the GOP primary candidates don’t incestuously cancel each other out we may have a shot at regaining hope. Our ammunition is our vote. We started in 2010 and it was a good start. But it was only a start. Miles to go before we sleep (peacefully).
BTW – I read the Obamacare bill. There is no provision for waivers. Does that mean the waivers being given out are illegal under the law? Not that the guy giving them out cares about the law . . .

Couldn’t have said it better. Disasters happen all the time folks. Natural & man-made. Common sense should tell you being prepared is being smart.
For those who sneer and tell us “preparers” we’re crazy, overreacting, stupid etc etc, think of it this way:
What will you do if your water lines no longer work? What will you do if you can’t stop by the grocery store every couple days? Or if you can get there…sorry, no food on the shelves? What will you do if your heating gas, oil is no longer available? What will you do when you flip the light switch…and nothing happens? What will you do when a desperate starving mob decides they’ll kill you to take the little you do have? Those “flash mobs” of delinquent teenagers won’t be createing havoc in a donut shop just for fun anymore.
Think I’m wrong…. look back at Katrina – looting, stealing water & food from dying people etc. Look at the recent flooding – law enforcement & private citizens needed to patrol homes in the evacuation areas – people in boats were coming in to take whatever they could from the victims. Look at Joplin, MO. Tornado wipes out almost half the town….and the vultures swarm. Picking thru rubble looking for things to steal instead of attempting to find survivors or help in any way.
Do you honestly think it will be different when the whole country is devastated one way or another? Nope, it will be far, far, far worse.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 12:45amBlaming it on Obama is absurd. Obama is nothing more than a political puppet as Bush II, Clinton or Bush I was. If you study your history or bothered to do the slightest bit of research you would know that. The currency is dying (all Fiat currencies do) and there is nothing that can be done at this point. You could cut taxes (which is a really bad idea by the way) for millionaires, corporations and anyone else you deem necessary, cut every “entitlement” program, slash the defense budget and end the wars and nothing is going to change. Put whoever you want in office and you can’t change the inevitable. But that was planned all along anyway. Check NAFTA! At this point there are two things that can be done. The first is do nothing, let it crash when the IMF decides to discontinue using the dollar as the world reserve currency, our dollar collapses and let the impending great, great depression begin. Or, prepare for a planned collapse so it doesn’t hurt so bad (which is what should be done). But this allows (thru NAFTA and the IMF) to create a new currency to replace the dollar (ever heard of the Amero?) I’ll bet you have. You people (sorry, most of you) need to take a step back and look at the entire picture; you would see that this has been going on for since before Obama was born. That’s why blaming him is absurd. Imho.

Well said. Both groups have lead us down this path. I don’t like BO but he is just the sham wow mouth piece as Glenn said. Same folks pulling the strings. NAFTA is a key piece of the puzzle agenda and the dollar failing is inevitable but the last piece of NAFTA.
If any of you actually herded cattle you would know you don’t run cattle, you walk them and allow them to stroll inside your guardrails until you get to the desired location. Then whips or these days hotshots (force) pushes the cattle into the coral and holding pens. Americans have been done the same way slowly herded down the path of world governance and when we get close to the coral force will be used to drive us in. Whether force is starvation like Government used in the 30′s for control or force like Syria, it will be used.
Government used the crash and starvation during the great depression to take control of much of our lives, and this time around it will be all aspects. Stock up on food and fear God only. We will survive!

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 3:45amWhat’s odd is that during the great depression, socialism/communism was on a big rise. The commies were capitalizing on the lost faith of many citizens. The labor unions also made great strides during the depression,,,also capitalizing on the lost faith of many citizens. But then, the rich also got richer during the depression, with many companies actually reporting profits.
any of this sound familiar??

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 3:57amBTW…have you heard Glenn’s latest ads for gold? Now he is finally mentioning that during an American financial meltdown, the government might very well sieze all gold private citizens are holding…except of course gold coins old enough to have some intrinsic value.
Wouldn’t that be a great conspiracy story? The USA secretly selling gold on the open market through 100′s of shell corporations for profit today, knowing full well (indeed, PLANNING on it) that they were eventually going to sieze it all over again?

Report Post »In the last paragraph of your response you stated that the “Government used the crash”. This is another common misconception. Our government/politicians are and have been nothing more than talking heads presented to us by the “establishment” in order to give us the illusion that somehow we the people are still in charge. If you look deeper into the crash of 1937 you will see that the same thing happened then as this time. Yes the politicians gained a little more power but it was the banks and corporations that made out like bandits. They bought up all the smaller failing institutions thus giving them even more of a monopoly on the systems they oversee. Now look at what happened in 07/08, same thing! These are well thought out and planned events which have very desirable effects. Transmit fear through the masses thus persuading them into making choices they ordinarily wouldn’t make. Federal Reserve act, patriot act, military act, NAFTA and many, many more. In the end it’s the people who end up paying the price. So when are people going to stop taking this crap?

I agree. My meaning is Government used the hardship, when people were down and desperate to implement the New Deal and it transformed America into the partial socialistic state of entitlements. People were so desperate that would do anything including begging Government when most of the trouble was actually from Government.
Government is the establishment then as it is now. To me Government equals establishment. :-) sorry for confusion. I‘m positive there wasn’t any Government/Establishment officials in soup lines or living in shanti towns. Never let a crisis go to waste right? So seeing the crisis and making it worse by plowing up the ground and slaughtering millions of animals Government Establishment was able to manipulate the People to ask and like policies the People in normal times would find absurd.
When will the People stop taking it? Honestly, they won’t. Most people know nothing of the meaning of true freedom and most people today need a nanny to direct their lives. There is a small remnant who get it and they are prepared but in my belief God will will destroy the 2nd beast and all it’s followers it one hour. The only person to fear is God. With him we can walk thru the valley of the shadow of death and fear no evil. Be prepared and stay safe..

The President appoints people to key positions. President Obama appointed “administrators” who are Central Planners to key positions in the Office of Management and Budget. One is Cass Sunstein. He’s in charge of all regulations.
Can you not hear the strangled cries of American companies choking on regulation? Can you not feel the government noose settling around your neck in the form of healthcare regulation?

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 2:58pmYou can’t ever be a “great” president unless you have had grave issues to deal with – we aren’t there yet and the worse it gets, the easier it is to “fundamentally change America.” BHO has no intentions of being a one term president – the Left will steal the election regardless of the outcome from the voters and we will plummet evern further into depression. This administration has shown only contempt for the people and our Constitution.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 8:09pmAnother great depression? Am I missing something, seems to me we are in the greatest depression the world has ever seen. At least after the last depression we still made stuff and had jobs to go back to. Today we make nothing but burgers and fries. To me this is a far greater depression that will persist for at least a decade or more. America will never be the same again.

Posted on June 11, 2011 at 5:52pmFunny, I was thinking the same thing. He has always felt a centralized government that has more control over the lives of the masses for their protection & benefit would be more preferable. This way, the feds could take from those who have and give it to those who have not. There are so many people dependent upon the government for welfare, unemployment, housing, food, etc. etc.; by now it should be obvious how dangerous continuing his policies would be. He & his supporters still think they have done a good thing. I guess if I had a big house and lot’s of free vacations around the world, I would feel the same way. Just like the Soviet Union, the political class and military officers, lived like kings and everyone else would be assigned an apartment with multiple families to share with by the same political class. There was no reason for others to work extra hard to create wealth, if the gov’t. was going to steal it to share with everyone else. Unfortunately, the massive new crop of regulations put out by nameless administration heads has stopped growth. His administration has found a lizard & a seahorse in & near the gulf, so they are suing to put them on the endangered species list. The result will be the elimination of all drilling in the gulf, unless you are a foreign co. that slant drills OUR oil just outside the borders of our control.
