CNN’s John King: We Have a ‘Fox Problem’

CNN’s John King last night vented a bit of frustration that his network has a “Fox problem,” noting the limited access to a number of potential 2012 GOP presidential contenders who are contractually tied to Fox News, including Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich.
“When it comes to covering the early maneuverings of the 2012 presidential race, we at CNN have what I’ll call ‘The Fox problem,’” King said. “[T]hey’re not supposed to sit down for interviews with CNN,” he added.
King was, however, able to secure a short interview with former House Speaker Gingrich over the weekend in Simi Valley, Calif., during the centennial celebration of President Ronald Reagan’s birthday.
If any of the Fox contributors decide to throw their hat into the 2012 race, they will need to cancel their Fox contracts in the next few months as campaigns kick off.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 8:27amThen it’s a non-story; if and when they decide to run, they have to “cancel” their contracts to run and then will be able to talk to any news organization. CNN, quit whining!

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 8:15amThank you John King for bringing this to the forefront. As stated above you just don’ t get it. Any right thinking person feels like the your CNN, along with every other news outlet except Fox has let the public down and caused all this problem. We all know that if Fox had not been left alone to question this buffoon we now have to call President; he would not have made it past his exploratory commission;
Report Post »Hell, he would never have made Senator.
We should not be as angry at Barry as we should be at the MSM. After all, it is the media that has allowed the lies, deceptions, and half truths to pass.
Here is an example just this morning:
CNN reports that several Dems sided with the Tea Party to kill parts of the Patriot Act.
Fox reports that the Tea Party butts heads with the Dems to kill parts of the Patriot Act.
Same story 2 different ways to tell it. The truth is on Fox, not CNN. The Truth is that the same Dems that voted for it last time voted against it this time and the Libertarians newly elected voted no.
Truth is Fox has smarter, more interested viewers than CNN. Harder to hand out the Official Party Line when your readers might ask a question or two.
dawg of gawd
Posted on February 9, 2011 at 10:47amActually, a study by the Pew Research Study shows that viewers of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last.
This is why it’s so important to do your own research, spend the time required to analyze what you find, and come to your own conclusions. Sound familiar?
Report Post »macpappy
Posted on February 9, 2011 at 2:38pmIt does sound familiar, I think I heard that from a fellow on Fox News. I watch Fox, I watch CNN, I cruise the XM talk shows, left and right. I read too, Ayn Rand, Bertrand Russell, and some lighter stuff. When I am through with all that and I visit the Blogs to hear what my fellow Americans are saying, and how they are reacting to the top stories. I, myself come to the conclusion that Fox News, and Fox Nation, along with the Blaze produce the most intelligent arguments. I mean aside from the Trolls, and outright idiots (trolls) that show up.
Report Post »I do however, agree that intelligent folks show up to watch Colbert, and the Daily Show, After all comedy, good comedy is hard to find. That is what these shows are, right? A comedy show. Not to be confused with a real News Outlet.
And Please in the name of fairness don’t quote the Pew Foundation….Just look at the Board of Directors

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 7:28amIn 2008 there were a number of Dem candidates who refused to even appear on Fox, but lined up to be on CNN.
Report Post »Now I guess the shoe is on the other foot and CNN is out in the cold.
But even the most left wingers in Congress know FOX is fair. I never thought Dennis Kucinich OR Bernie Sanders would appear with regularity on FOX. But there they are, being treated with respect.

We here at CNN have a problem. The Republicans that we enjoy pummeling 7 days a week on our 24 hour station are not at our beck and call to be used a verbal punching bags for our interviewers. We are very displeased that these powerful, audience building personalities are not available to boost our ratings. If this continues, we are going to need to use hand puppets to have pretend interviews as our ‘business’ shows have trouble stating that jobs come from businesses and thus stimulus plans don’t work.
We are CNN. Please save us . . . from ourselves.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 5:50amNot necessarily true. This is what the LEFT WING LAME-STREAM Media would like you to believe.
The above mentioned possible candidates will have a MUCH WIDER audience if they continue on FOX. AND CNN AND the REST of the LEFT WING LAME-STREAM Media knows it.
The LONGER they put it off, the harder it is for ANY of the LEFT WING LAME-STREAM Media to go after them with lies, slander and innuendoes like they tried to do to Sarah Palin, O’Rielly, etc. with the Tucson shooting.
Think about it.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 3:11amWell bud, for the last three years we here on planet earth have had a CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC and CBS problem — they each ditched their constitutional duty. I don‘t even have a clue of how you can live with yourselves but that’s your problem but what did you expect ….
That we would actually not see what it was you were doing? Look, the jig is up, you’re busted and long ago. Answer this: Have you reported a handfull of critical reports towards this administration of which any of us could make a list to fill a single sheet of paper comepletely!! I haven’t seen any critical reporting from your government feed so called news!

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 2:18pmOur founders considered a free press the fourth branch of government, the watch dog, if you will, of our governments inter workings. If there is anywhere these great people erred it is the free press. Not of course that it shouldn’t be free but that they, the founders, thought everyone would be honest in the free press. I now realize they never suspected that those with the power of the free press could be corrupted as they are today.
This includes CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and all the rest including all the public stations like PBS. Fox, it seems, is the only one that at least tries to take a neutral position and actually report the news. Being conservative I don’t always agree with everything Fox broadcasts but that is the way it should be. Fox, contrary to what the left would like you to believe, is not a conservative news station. It is however is a legitimate news station, that may be what the others are lacking.

Posted on February 9, 2011 at 9:55amAs I recall – prior to the 11/2010 elections, FOX had extended invitations to many many MANY democrats that either didn’t respond or declined to appear on FOX. Yeah, Barney was on O’Reilly, Weiner appeared here n’ there to do his hyper-rants.
Now that they lost control of the House and are trying to ‘appear’ more forthcoming, I’ve seen more democrats on FOX than ever. . It’s a dog and pony show folks. Don’t be fooled. Stay the course.
As far as CNN goes? Who cares – no one is watching anyway.
