Coincidence? After Major Union Paid $100K for ‘Public Relations’ Services, Media Matters Started Campaign Against Fox News

Shortly after the largest labor union in the U.S., the National Education Association (NEA), paid Media Matters For America $100,000 in 2011 for “public relations” services, the liberal messaging group began its crusade against all things Fox News and its seemingly endless promotion of teachers unions, the Daily Caller reports.

“[T]o ensure that NEA’s agenda makes its way in the media,” Citadel international politics professor Mallory Factor wrote in Shadowbosses: Government Unions Control America and Rob Taxpayers Blind, “NEA has given $100,000 to Media Matters, the George Soros-funded liberal ‘charitable organization’ dedicated to targeting mythical right-wing media bias.”

And now the Daily Caller has obtained documents proving Factor’s claim.

“The data is from the Labor Department’s LM-2 form, a disclosure required whenever a union disburses $5,000 or more to an outside entity. In one such 2011 filing, the NEA reported paying Media Matters $100,000 and referred to it as a ‘political organization,’” TheDC reports.

“Complicating matters for the teachers union is the fact that the same report categorized the $100,000 payment as a ‘union administration’ cost instead of as a political expenditure,” the report adds.

Media Matters Funds From NEA

And you know what? The NEA wasn’t the only union in 2011 to shell out cash to Media Matters: The AFL-CIO gave $10,000 and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees gave $5,000.

Both donations are referred to in official documents as “political activities.”

“The NEA’s choice to call its much larger payment a ‘union administration’ cost leaves open the possibility that it could charge the expense to non-members — known as ‘agency fee payers’ — who are nonetheless covered by the union’s collective bargaining agreement,” TheDC reports.

When asked by TheDC whether other nonprofit organizations have provided them publicity in exchange for cash, an NEA spokesman declined to comment. The spokesman also declined to comment on the services provided to them by Media Matters.

Media Matters also declined to comment.

“A careful reading of Media Matters’ website, however, suggests the NEA got a significant bang for its buck. Since the date of the $100,000 payment, the liberal messaging group has published 41 separate articles online referring to the NEA and other teachers unions, each one staking out a position that’s favorable to organized labor and critical of a media outlet whose commentators disagree,” TheDC reports.

“Almost universally, that media outlet has been the Fox News Channel. Of those 41 articles, 29 directly attacked Fox News or the name of a Fox host or contributor in their headlines. Many others attack Fox and its personnel more generally,” the report adds.

Blaze readers may recall that many of these attacks were aimed at none other than Glenn Beck.

The NEA “has been a political organization for decades,” said Don Loos, a senior adviser to National Right to Work president Mark Mix.

For the past 50 years, public education in America has been dominated by socialists and their theorys. Our Constitution puts the individual states in charge of education which, goes against the collective mindset of public sector unions. They got their way and, we got NEA and lower SAT scores. Let’s return to the law of the land: Our Constitution. That way, we can observe fifty solutions to public education instead of the one failed excuse we saddle our kids with now.

My ex wife is a teacher and I read her union materials that seemed to greatly increase around election time. I also ran for the school board in California and was attacked by the California Teachers Association (CTA) as I did not pass their “interview” for endorsement. The NEA is worse. They once at a national convention passed a resolution to boycott Florida orange juice because they advertised on Rush Limbaugh’s show. And don’t forget, Senator Hillary Clinton’s New York office is in a NEA owned building. Can you see any financial dealings here?

Considering that the taxpayers “supplement” the salaries and pensions of the NEA,
it would be a good idea to find out where that $100,000. “donation” came from – union dues or pensions ????
Under the RICO Laws, it better not have been “taken” from the pension funds.
Just like those billions of dollars that another has “donated” to the Obama/Democratic campaigns for the last five years………where was that money “taken” from ?????
But then, it would be difficult to get the Attorney General, Holder, to look into that problem – wouldn’t it ?????

Having sat on both sides of the fence, ask your Union Bosses this, and don’t settle for a “I’ll get back to you ” BS response: How do you stand on personal freedom, the right to bear arms under the Constitution, the right to freedom as a guaranteed right, the right to personal property rights and the right to work, even if you are in a low-paying non-union job, and do you believe in God, and do you support workers who are Christians and believe in God?

Please explain how my faith is any of your business in a work environment. This is not a Christian country. It is a secular nation where the majority of people claim some sort of Christian faith. By the way, religious tests to hold elected offices or offices of public trust are expressly prohibited by Article Six of the Constitution. And the First Amendment guarantees me the right to practice or not practice a religion as I see fit. My colleagues have the right to pray or not as they choose. They do not have the right to proselytize me at work, because that violates my rights.

I believe in personal property, but I also recognize due process. I believe that the Second Amendment is a collective right, not an individual one. And if you questioned me thusly, I would look you in the eye and demand to know why you think you are entitled to demand this information from me. I’m a free American, too. And I don’t care what you think of me or people like me.

@starman70 And her point which you of course you can‘t grasp because you are addicted to an ideology which gets in the way of your brain is that it really shouldn’t and doesn’t matter. If you had half the grasp on the what the founding fathers stood for as opposed to GB bs, you would understand that they spoke of God, not Christianity, as a universal construct. And given that the majority of Christian Catholics live outside the US, it is not a uniquely American religion. There really is no greater arrogance than for any religious group to claim they have some inside track in terms of knowing god, understanding god and performing his will. If there is a higher energy or force (call it God if you will) in the universe we have no clue what it is and probably couldn’t understand it if revealed itself to us. You rely on writings, not dissimilar to those from any number of ancient tribes, that seek to explain the unexplainable and seek to utilize a supreme being to achieve social order. But of course your writings are superior to those from as though it is not possible that God would have revealed himself to anyone else. If in fact, as Evangelicals claim that they have a personal relationship with God, then why don’t they keep it personal. In this country EVERYONE’s freedom, liberty and civil rights begin and end at the tip of their nose.

Yes, they do so by buying politicians to do their bidding. They use these politicians to gain outrageous retirement packages, reduced requirements for retaining their job all at taxpayer expense. Americans are sick and tired of funding such things as the New York school systems “Rubber Rooms” where bad and even criminnaly charged teachers are placed because the system can’t fire them. While in that state, they receive full pay and benefits, even though they aren’t in the classroom teaching. This situation may last for YEARS!

Conservatives are taking over!!! The taxpayers are nauseated by union tactics and in every facet of political abuse of the dues paid by workers. Instead of providing greatly enhanced benefits for their workers, union leaders use tax money to buy politicians and insure their own longevity in union offices and give themselves cadillac retirement packages, far beyo0nd anything they would ever ask for to aid their membership.

There once was a time when unions provided quality workers, but now all they do is mandate mediocrity. They work really hard to keep worthless people in their jobs, but if a good employee has a problem the union is nowhere around. They do however keep taking their dues and they keep funding the leftists.

In Washington State, a “Closed Shop State”, you HAVE to join a Union to get a Work Card (Union Card). You have to pay dues. Even if you don’t get work, you have to pay dues. So, even if you are on Unemployment Compensation, and your benefits run out, you have to be current on your Union Dues to get rehired, EVEN IF MANAGEMENT WANTS YOU BACK! But, if you can’ pay back dues because you are BROKE and have NO MONEY, you CANNOT WORK!

This happened to my son, and is one reason why he is a hardcore REPUBLICAN now, and has seen the light. Hopefully, changes will be made this Fall, and we can begin the fight to make Washington State a Right To Work State!

Sean Hannity, Michelle Malkin, and a bunch of really good looking conservatively intelligent ladies. They could hire thirty more liberals, and still not bring an additional ounce of relevance or integrity to the programming. In fact that would lose a lot of viewership if that were to happen….The liberals on fox now, juan williams, bobbo beckle, alan colmes et.al. usually appear as clowns playing dress up. If there were any truthful, professional, intelligent , liberal journalists……..they wouldn’t BE liberal.
Now, if Fox news had as much bias and racist thought as the MSM, that could be seen as selling out. Uhhh, so? It’s apparently American to do so. “dedicated to targeting mythical right-wing media bias”. Does anyone really think Fox News is middle of the road? Super pacs pay fox to run commercials targeting Obama, while rubbing repubs, n u t s. It’s only hateful when the other side does it.

NEVERAREPUBLICAN, (Right Wing) Conservatives NEVER deny that we are conservatives (including the commentators on Fox News). In fact, We are fiercely proud of it. Why is it that almost NO Radical Leftists will admit (proudly or otherwise) that they are Liberal? (That’s a rhetorical question.)

Calling a turkey a turkey doesn’t make someone a lefty. Fox etc… is fiercely proud of being conservative. Cool. Main stream still sees themselves as center, and no amount of right-wing tantrums will change that. A turkey is a turkey.

exrepub….You May be right on the gay worshiping coasts but there is a whole lotta folks in between ,and they are mostly Christian and lovers of truth. We look at folks like you as licentious, depraved and nearly irredeemable. .People we would not want our kids to get very near. People we warn them about.
People that cause us to dial 911 when we see them in the neighborhood late at night.

Well, there you go again – Reagan.

They don’t call Republicans In Name Only RINOs for nothing.

You seem to have come from that camp.

SKREWED…I register as a repub, but I do not identify with either party. 95% of all politicians, the professionals, are full of rhetoric and short on cajones. I can’t think of a democrat I respect since jack & Bobby K.and maybe a dozen repubs in my life, and Reagan was one of those. I think most people are shallow and resist the truth, casually, if it affects the status quo, or threatens long held beliefs. There are very few who get it right, anywhere, anytime. Very few. Its an Ego thing. No body wants to find out they have been deceived. So they proceed unaware of what is truly going on. The information is available.

Of course prior to 2011 Media Matters was exposing the lies of Beck and Fox news. This article and book is nothing more than a political hack either paying the Koch Brothers back for their donations or looking to hit them up for dollars.
