Colin Powell: Occupy Wall Street Demonstrations as ‘American as Apple Pie’

Colin Powell: Occupy Wall Street Demonstrations As American as Apple Pie

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell called the ongoing Occupy Wall Street demonstrations “as American as apple pie,” though he expressed concern about the violence that has emerged in parts of the movement.

Calling the protests a sign of frustration in a time where work opportunities are more limited, Powell recalled his own upbringing when his parents — both immigrants — always held jobs. Even if they were low-paying, he said, it was enough.

“They always had work,” Powell told CNN’s Piers Morgan in an interview aired Thursday. “People are concerned now that there is not that work source of income.”

With Occupy Wall Street, he said, people are unhappy and they’re “directing their unhappiness toward Wall Street and toward those they think are doing too well in our society.”

“I don’t begrudge anybody who has earned a good salary as part of our capitalist system,” he said. “[But] demonstrations like this are as American as apple pie. We’ve been marching up and down and demonstrating throughout our history.”

He continued, “I get a little concerned when demonstrations turn into violence or when some of the demonstrators demonstrate absolute nihilism and they’re really not interested in anything but destruction and tearing down the system.”

Powell said the biggest concern is the income gap, which needs to be addressed politically.

“Those who are not doing as well, are not seeing their lives improving…there’s angriness there and this is something I think our Wall Street friends need to think about and this is something our political friends need to think about,” he said. “It isn’t enough just to scream at the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations, we need our political system to start reflecting this anger back.”

Another example of how satan has infiltrated the mind of a once respected military leader. Spiritual battle at full force has caused this cloudy vision of reality. These protests are ironically based on selfishness and forgetting God.

It’s past time that serious intellectual people with influence that love the US Constitution to begin considering how best to divide the Nation up into 4, 5, maybe 6 districts so that we can all live under the type of Gov’t of our choosing. There’s no logical reason to keep the Union together because we are obviously more different than many nations are.. As different as night is from day. If we don’t we are fastly approaching a time of blood shed.

Unfortunately this idea will probably not be given serious consideration and we most likely slip into some form of dictatorship within the next 20 years.

And the original green grasses of Capitalism stayed green grasses, and yet the viewpoint from Socialists began viewing traditional Americans as “weeds.”

Yea there was a time so many really liked Powell and there was talk of supporting him for a POTUS run… how wrong we all were!

This occupy LIE is nothing like being “as American as Apple Pie”. To make such a statement based on Powells logic would then mean shootings, illegal drug use, sexual abuse, vandalism, destruction of property, urinating and defecating in public would also be considered ‘as American as Apple Pie” too! These things are all the norms of the occupy movement, its not isolated, the headlines are the same from coast to coast. Its baffling he would make such a statement KNOWING this but then again that is the Powell we all now know… a RINO and turncoat in the eyes of many. What the TEA party and conservatives have been doing is as American as Apple Pie not occupy. Occupy is a representation of darkness, evil, the devils hands busy manipulating the weak minded through his LEGION. When you want to institute total government control, well, then you have something! He’ll be behind you 110%!
Really, are we shocked? The republican establishment wrapped their arms around this guy and pushed him to the top. Conservative America trusted him and believed in him–at one point, mulling over the idea of having him run as president. Low and behold, we found out he back tracked and lied about Iraq, like we didn’t see him at the UN. Never happened, don’t you know. And then the party that gave him respect, trust and the opportunities to rise to the top, he turned around and stabbed them in the back—primarily over race. It’s gone downhill from there. He’s betrayed the entire country as we watched the mask come off over the last 4 yrs to see who and what he really is. We should be scared if the top brass shares his thoughts on OWS. We may be in a lot more trouble than we thought.

He is right, we in this country have a right to protest. We have the right to assemble. The occupy wall street people are an outward manifestation of a sickness that is in the people of this country and the world. This sickness is called “Pride” “Selfishness” and a determination to kick against the ******. Meaning God has given all of us the ability to see between right and wrong. When we choose wrong so many times, the light that God has given us to see right and wrong diminishes until it goes completely dark.

In other words, when you reject the truth you are walking further from the truth. The further you get from truth, the harder it is to recognize it. These protesters and everyone who approves of there philosophy have walked away from the truth and now cannot recognize it.

In order to see the truth you must see things as they really are, as they have always been, and how they will be. It all starts with turning your heart to God. And not the God who wants to hurt others.

what did you expect, he supports Obama to be re-elected. He may have served his country, but now has no respect for it. Anyone who supports this imposter, certainly has not done there home work.
Social security number Obama is using is 043-68-4425 (his current SSN) belongs to Jean Paul Lidwig. He was born in France 1890, came to the U.S. in 1934. He was assigned SSN 042-68-4425 on or about March 1977. He lived most of hiis life in Connecticut This is why his SSN starts with 042 reserved only for Connecticut residents. Obama never lived or worked in that state. No reason for him to have that SSN. NONE BEST PART–Ludwig spent the final 5 months in Hawaii where he died. Coveniently, Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Payne Durham, worked part time in the Probate Office in the Honolulu Hawaii Courthouse and therefore had access to the SSN of deceased individual. The Social Security office there were never imformed of Ludwig’s death because he never received SS benifits. There were no benefits to stop and therefore no questions were ever raised. The suspicion of course, is that Durham knowing her grandson was not a U. S. citizan, either because he was born in Kenya or became a citizan of Indonesia upon adoption by Lolo Soetoro. She simply scoured the probate records until she found someone who died who was not receiving SS benefits, and selected Mr. Ludwig’s Connecticut SSN for Obama. Don’t take my word for it, Do your homework please.

I’m amazed over how shocked so many are.. Many of you people just don’t get it.. The liberals were right about one thing.. There are at least two Americas. One desiring to be under the Constitution of the United States of America and the other desiring some mix of Marxist/Statist rule. Once again I’m just so shocked over the failure of so many of my conservative colleagues to understand the state of affairs we are currently in. That’s why I believe it is time begin considering a mutual agreed to split.. There’s no reason to remain one Nation when we are so diverse in thought/morals/opinions/culture/etc. We are in essence begging for a Dictator if we don’t begin to address our current situation.

How many of you believe that there’s any hope for a future America resembling anything like our past? I just don’t get the reluctance to accept the situation we are in and to begin to deal with it.

Powell’s an a-hole of the first magnitude. In the past (prior to 1964) when we’ve marched up and down, we’ve always marched for freedom. The leftists in the 60′s/70′s and the reprobates now are marching for marxism, communism, and anti-Americanism. Quite different things. Contrast these low-lifes; raping, drugging, destroying, burning, killing, dying from overdoses, trashing, attacking, disparaging Christians, Jews and pro-Americans, contrast that with the modest pro-America Tea Party gatherings/rallies. These miserable miscreants don’t deserve life let alone liberty and the pursuit of happeness, because all three are wasted on them.

I agree. Multiculturalism is an abysmal failure. There is no greater lie than, “Diversity is our strength.”
Every tribe in the US is for themselves and only themselves, and their efforts are directed toward gaining dominance and control for their tribal brothers and sisters.

The importation of large numbers of third world emigres and refugees….partly…..was a plan by the self-appointed elites both here and Europe to create a huge superstate in order to gain more wealth and power via tax units and consumers. The corporations and the politicos both are to blame.

Now that the economy is tanking, hands are being wrung in worry over dwindling treasuries that are growing less and less able to finance the social nets most of these third worlders rely on.

Cheap labor and additional tax units turn into quite a troublesome burden to any country that has a problem meeting its budget every year without severe austerity measures.

The smart thing would be to carve the country up into ethnic/religious/political enclaves peacefully. If that isn’t done, it will be done violently in Civil War II.

But we ALL know nothing is ever changed peacefully.

We are truly a minority on this planet but almost 8 out of 10 whites are practically ashamed to even acknowledge our people as a race. I’ve held for years that this man is a living, breathing example of The Dilbert Principle (you promote incompetent idiots into management to keep them from getting in the way of productive people). This is not an opinion that I alone have held for years, just watch Mars Attacks and their caricature of the “man”. If you suck up long enough, great things are bound to happen (to paraphrase the movie).

I wasn’t aware that American as apple pie meant rapes, violence, screaming curse words at passers by and rioting. Huh, who knew?

Powell was always a politician first. During the gulf war it was as if Powell was Bradley and schwartzkopf was Patton. He was whatever he needed to be when he needed to be it. And yes, total hypocrite as well. Didn‘t trumpet tea party rallies or say maybe shay’s rebellion for example. Nope. And to try and equate opposition to say king george to a communist revolution is proof the man is a hack.

No, the Dilbert principle is opposite of the Peter principle. With the later, you’re promoted up to the max of your ability, but not further.

Dilbert is great fun, of course it has an audience.

Plans for GOP nomination in 2008? A real “eye opening”? I don’t know. The way to address the wealth gap is thru the free market. For too long our gov’t has stood in the way or tried to redistribute the wealth. Taking fm one and giving to another is not a way to fix the problem. In the end, you end up w/two problems — bullies in control and poor that remain poor.

Certainly appreciate the MBA 101 quote. But if this country and politicians on both side of the isle really believed that they would not approve any trade agreements that did not mandate the establishment and operation of a free market in the other country. This would include full information to all segments of the market, including labor and the ability of labor to participate in the prosperity of those countries. The US ultimately suffers from many of these so called free trade agreements because the initial spending to trade associated with buying machinery from us dwindles as the exploited labor force is unable to afford US goods. And when you get to MBA 202 you’ll probably learn something about Social Utility, although it is usually quickly forgotten.
