Colin Powell: Tea Party Point of View Will Not Produce a Presidential Candidate Who Will Win

Colin Powell on Tea Party Will Not Produce a Presidential Candidate Who Will Win

During an interview Sunday on ABC’s This Week with Christiane Amanpour, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said that he believes the curent political tone in the country and on Capitol Hill is “very tense,” with Democrats and Republicans focusing on the extreme left and extreme right. Powell says the media is partially to blame, telling Amanpour that “The media loves this game where everyone is on the extreme– it makes for great TV.”

“What we have to do is to take some of the heat out of our political life in terms of the coverage of it, so these folks can get to work quietly.”

Amanpour counters asking Powell then what he thinks about “the fact,“ that the Tea Party says ”compromise is a dirty word.”

Powell acknowledges and appears to accept this statement, following that the Tea Party point of view “of no compromise whatsoever” is “not a point of view that will eventually produce a presidential candidate who will win.”

If you will notice Colon spoke evil of the Tea Party and didn’t say a word about the protesters down on Wall Street or did he say who they were trying to influence in the next election, he forgot all his buddies like Keith O falsely say that the Tea Party and OWS protesters are in likeness. Oh, if you just listen to the progressives and give them enough rope and they’ll hang themselves with their mouth! He and Amanpour are working toward the Caliphate!

The “game” has been played on the left half of the field for the past 50 years…the Regan years moved us closer to the 50 yard line nand then the next three, with CP, moved us back towards the left’s advantage.

Wake up America is not a cry for compromise.

It is a pledge towards educated awareness, a limited and constitutional government, a destruction of the Washington bureaucracy and the unbridling of the American entrepreneurial spirit.

I’m sorry but C P is fast becoming a Beltway talking head. He subliminally supports the Occupy movement while at same time subliminally undercuts the Tea Party movement.

      C P I ask you:

Who best communicates the message of the occupy “movement” ?

May I invite you to a friendly game of chess ?

Of COURSE Powell wants you to think that.
He is one of the ones who got up in front of the cameras and LIED about the WMD’s to get us into a war with Iraq. The blood of MILLIONS is on his hands.
It doesn’t matter which color jersey they are wearing. They are moving the ball in the SAME direction. That is the direction of more illegal, immoral wars, more debt, more spending, more destruction of the middle class, less liberty and less sovereignty.
The Constitution and the 2nd amendment are like a crucifix to these vampires. They want to do away with our rights as quickly as possible, so that they can carry out their plans of total domination of the American people. Just like Hitler, Stalin, and Mao did.
They want to keep us distracted and in fear, so that they can divide and conquer us. It’s the old “enemy at the gates” routine.
Iran is NOT a threat to us, OR Israel. Why would they nuke Israel, when the Palestinians are RIGHT NEXT DOOR? Think about that for a second.
This is the same war propaganda, that was drummed up just before the invasion of Iraq, which had NOTHING to do with 9/11. It was all part of the PNAC plan. Here is General Wesley Clark talking about attacking 7 countries in 5 years. If you don’t know who PNAC is, then it is time for some study.

Was a affirmative action appointee, promoted ahead of his peers throughout his military career because the policy was to promote African-Americans to upper echelons more quickly. Those are facts. What Colon Bowel knows about politics or America you could fit in his…you know. And since that’s generally the location from whence his voice emanates, it’s really fitting, come to think about it.

What stuck out to me in that interview is that he wants the press out of the picture in washington so that the criminals can collude behind the ciel and get to a compromise without the daily scrutiny the need to keep them in line with the american people. Shut the doors, pull the shades and make deals in secret. ARE YOU SERIOUS!! He is a PROGRESSIVE!! Protecting the Military Industrial Complex which is the engine for covering up massive corrupt dealings and croney-ism. Colon was Murtha’s boy, remember!

Ron Paul will put an end to all of this corruption. PERIOD!
All here should get used to the Idea that Ron Paul WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!! Or barack will be the last to hold the office of a free people. Yea, can see it now, “Welcome to the U.S.S.A, central region for the NAU (North American Union) The currency here is the Amero and it is universally accepted throughout North America. Independents will once again elect the President and they will not accept the failure of the Joe Walsh’s to take action to actually move the country forward. Geez the guy even says no to supporting his kids. And despite what GB yells into his mic. The founding fathers disagreed on virtually everything and therefor had to compromise on everything. Did he compromise his radical beliefs by launching his Senatorial campaign at Wm Ayars home?
Did he compromise his anti-American beliefs by appointing Van Jones (a Communist revolutionary) as ‘green jobs’ Czar?
Did he compromise by appointing racist E Holder to the post of AG?

Looks like he got elected to the presidency by not compromising, and not compromising once he got elected.

Anyway, the Tea Party will not compromise their belief that the Constitution should be followed by our government. Explain what we should do instead of running our country as it was intended to be?

Powell is correct. Most voters are not hyper-partisan. Most voters do not hold extreme ideological positions. Most voters are in the middle and are known as the “sensible center” between the 40 yard lines. The rigid politics of the Tea Party turns off independents and moderate voters.

Hyper-partisans that believe in ideological “purity” and no compromise can win primary elections, but Tea Party rigidity does not translate well into general elections when millions of voters from Seattle to Miami will be participating!

Most voters support programs like Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment insurance especially during a recession. Most voters believe some government assistance can be beneficial to society, so the Tea Party’s chants for unfettered capitalism and economic Darwinism largely falls on deaf ears and you will lose elections!

Most voters do not support the Tea Party but most voters are also not rigid, doctrinaire Marxists either… American voters are in the middle and prefer pragmatism and compromise over extreme ideology. In a country of 330 million different opinions and preferences, some comprise is necessary. It’s what democracy is all about!

The Tea Party believes in sustainable safety nets, not cradle to grave government support. Folks paid into medicare and social security and of course they are going to get it. Tea is not getting rid of those, just trying to make them sustainable without bankrupting the country.

In case you didn’t know most federal programs are bankrupt or will be soon including medicare, medicaid, post office, schools, and so on, People who vote to keep borrowing from China to pay for government programs will end up making the country bankrupt like Greece.

The Tea Party isn’t a radical ideology, just people trying not to go bankrupt from fairy tale ideas of working for a few years then retiring with full pay for the rest of your life.

The Tea Party beliefs are economic facts, not ideology.

An example of what I would do is raise the age one receives social security and medicare to 70 for those who are 50 years old right now. (it would kick in 12 years from now) I would not allow any government NEW worker to get pensions.
Of course you have to pay the ones promised.

The programs were supposed to be safety nets. They were never intended for the government to take care of everyone in the country from cradle to crib.

Independents voted for gay marriage last time and got socialism by voting for Obama. I do not think they will be that stupid this time. Fiscal responsibility will be more important in this election than moral issues.

Sorry, pragmatic, but there is no such thing as hyper partisanship in today,s world. Colin Powell is wrong and so are you. Today it is a choice between good and evil. The Tea Party is full of good, honest, hard working, America loving people. The Democrat Party is gone, replaced by people who openly praise and admire Mao, Castro, Chavez, and other socialist and communist tyrants responsible for the deaths of millions. The Republican Party is almost gone. The President shows contempt for the constitution that he took an oath to protect, for the rule of law, for white people, for the handicapped, for police, for Republicans, for the rich who don’t give him money, for all Americans by encouraging violence and law breaking by the well planned and organized and funded occupy movement. The thing that Tea Partiers fail to acknowledge is the shift toward a conservative direction since Reagan! We have cut taxes substantially and deregulated Wall Street firms over the past 30 years! Upper-income tax rates used to be MUCH HIGHER! We used to have much more “Socialism” during the Eisenhower, LBJ, and Nixon years! Tax rates were much higher, union membership was much higher and we flourished economically!

Now tax rates are MUCH LOWER! Obama has advocated for much LOWER tax rates than we saw under Eisenhower, Kennedy, LBJ, and Nixon! Tax rates were upwards of 80% from Eisenhower through Nixon and there was much more redistribution of wealth to the lower/middle class.

Most Americans understand these simply facts. They understand that we have been fighting wars while also cutting taxes and that cutting taxes does not make sense! Especially when we need infrastructure investments and investments in education. Taxes are at historic lows and until the Tea Party acknowledges that they will continue losing elections.

We flourished as a country during the Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Nixon years when we had much HIGHER rates of taxation on wealthy individuals. We need some sacrifice from the top end to help solve our budget woes. We have been fighting wars and giving the elderly drugs and we need to pay for those things… Most voters want a balanced approach that includes tax increases, NOT a “pure” Tea Party approach that only cuts!

Arizona Don is right, blacks today are a lot more racist than whites ever were. I grew up in a small town during segregation and even though whites outnumbered blacks 10 to 1 I never saw a black person mistreated by a white person and never heard of the KKK.

Liberals think compromise is good (it is good for them when we compromise). When a crook demands all your money, will he “compromise” and take half? Actually they will, when the crook is a Democrat. Then he robs you again … and again.

I’m done with you idiots (dems).

Compromise with stupid is still stupid.

Powell likes him some “affirmative action.” I actually liked this guy when he was my V Corps Commander in Germany until I did a little research on him. He rose through the ranks ahead of more qualified Officers and was put into major leadership positions where he had no business being at that time. He tried desperately in appearance to be the voice of reason. In my estimation he was the voice of weakness.

I had to be a part of this lack of Powell leadership once again during the first Gulf War. I then witnessed Colon Powell “who champions affirmative action” put his support behind a President elected in what only can be described as IMO… affirmative action at it’s worst

Don’t you recall who was the initial cover-up-erer for the My Lai massacre?

Wait, wait, WAIT just one stinkin minute—Isn’t this the same nimrod that just force fed us that crap that the OWS were as American as apple pie a couple of weeks ago????But there is something evil and foreboding about a large group of Americans that insist that their government be accountable to them according to the Constitution? I don‘t think this is the first time he’s talked about the media and how and what they deliver to the people either. Somehow I don‘t think he’s referring to cnn or msnbc. Go suck eggs you puke, and that is from an ‘uncompromising’ American.

But most voters believe “fiscal responsibility” includes some revenue increases from high-income earners! We fought two wars, gave the elderly free prescription drugs (Medicare Part-D), and we foolishly CUT taxes. Cut taxes while fighting wars and subsidizing medicine for the elderly…

Tax rates are at historic lows and we have serious debt to pay off… Tax increases or at least closing tax loopholes must be on the table. Most voters agree with that sentiment and that is why Tea Party rigidity against revenue enhancement turns off most voters.

High earners already work January, February, March, April, May, and June for free.(fed plus state tax) How many more months do you want high earners to work for free?

We need to get rid of waste, fraud, abuse, pensions

Revenue enhancement is stealing. From who doesn’t matter. Barry increased spending by over 5 trillion in five years. The cash went to union thieves and back to Barry’s reelection campaign. You are pragmatically what is called a thief.

But the right to tax and spend for the general welfare is found in the Constitution! It is not thievery, it is responsible governance. Tax rates have been cut substantially since the Reagan years and we have little to show for it. We have been fighting a war on terrorism, a war on drugs, and subsidizing elderly prescription drugs (Medicare Part-D)… While cutting taxes! We need taxes to pay for these things!

Tax rates are at historic LOWS and the American people would like to see some slight increase at the top end. The fact that the Tea Party does not recognize this means they will continue to lose general elections (although they might win some primary elections where the electorate is much more partisan and ideologically “pure”)!

Pragmatica, You just do not understand the problem we face. We are here because we are spending ourselves into oblivion. How much in taxes should I pay? 70? 80, 90%? Or do you just want me to give all my money to the government in hopes that they will spend my money wiser than I can? Get real. We need to cut the government regulations back to a time we all had Individual Liberty. As of right now, our country is a Socialistic type of government. I, for one, want my freedoms back. We have a minority leader (D) who thinks it is rediculous for bring up Constitutionality when questioning the Congress. The last President (R) said we had to abandon the Free Market in order to save it. Our current President (D) say’s there are a lot of negative liberties in the Constitution. If they have moved their position in any way from what they believed in the past, have to move their position towards the center in order to get a vote, they are lying to you. I do not understand why that is so hard to understand from a lot of people. Paul is the most honest candidate there is. His foreign policies are Constitutional and the right thing to do. He will take his oath to defend and protect the Constitution vigorously, and promises every American that he will never do anything outside the bounds of the Constitution. Read his Statement of Faith: http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/statement-of-faith/
He is the closest we have to a present day Founding Father.

DagneyT – Pragmatica is not a Paul supporter. You will never see any Paul supporter advocating the raising of taxes, if you see them support Paul and in the next breath want higher taxes, that person does not support Ron Paul. Abolish the EPA, Federal Reserve, HUD, IRS, Dept. of Education, Energy and more; cut $1 trillion per year of spending and you think a Paul supporter would advocate raising taxes? You’re smoking some crack if you think so. Ron Paul 2012!

Why president Bush even considered this sorry excuse of a man to be a member of his cabinet is beyond me. And to think that some people have considered him to be presidential material for the Republican party. I wish he would just come out and say what he really is, A PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL or just run for office as a Democrat and stop pretending to be a Republican. Despicable !!!
