College Lecturer Berates Local Chick-fil-A Employee at the Drive-Thru: ‘Horrible Corporation’

Not all of the half-million plus people who reportedly visited Chick-fil-A restaurants on August 1st were there to support the company. There were a few folks who stopped by to protest the company. One such protester is Adam M Smith.
Mr. Smith is an Adjunct Lecturer at Eller College in Arizona and he also is the CFO of Vante, a catheter manufacturing company.
Apparently, Adam Smith is not a fan of the head of Chick-fil-A and he decided to let the company know how he felt. Smith sat in the drive through lane of a local franchise, intending to only order “free water” and give the company a piece of his mind.
In the video, initially titled ”Reduce $’s to Chick-Fil-A’s Hate Groups” – these points are worth noting:
- The college students that Smith sees off in the distance and speculates are getting ready to stage a sit-in, were most likely waiting to get into the movie theater they were standing in front of.
- He tells the young woman working the window, “This is a horrible corporation with horrible values.”
- He also goes out of his way to stress ,”I’m a nice guy, by the way… totally heterosexual. Not a gay in me, I just can’t stand the hate.”
Not long after Smith posted the video on YouTube, it was removed.
However, other web users had already spotted the clip, copied it and reposted it, citing the ”Freedom And Innovation Revitalizing United States Entrepreneurship Act of 2007.”

The Blaze has reached out to Smith by phone and email. As of this writing, we have not heard from him.

We ALL go through drive-throughs, order free waters, then tell the poor workers how horrible their companies are and say how we cannot know how they can live with themselves and tell them they need to “take a stand.” We ALL go out of our WAYS to be JERKS to others – who, by the way, can do NOTHING about upper management’s personal beliefs and opinions – or to what organizations the company might send money.
This man was acting as a bully and a jerk–nothing more, nothing less. Maybe he made himself feel better by doing it. He certainly seemed to feel very smug and self-righteous.
Then he wants to show the whole world what a “big man” he was for “standing up” to this “evil corporation” by posting a video on YouTube. Then later, I guess he decides it isn’t all that important after all and takes it down.
He probably was the guy in middle school who bullied lunch money out of other kids and stuck the “dweebs” into lockers. But it turns out as most probably knew it all along: HE is the dweeb after all!

And of course a number of other people who want to shut down a business because they did not like the answer to a question regards what the owner of chickfila thinks marriage is. Protest on public property is protected free speech. The drive through is on a business property and intented to order (i.e. one free water) NOT to confront someone with a protest. He should have gotten his free water and then gone to public property to protest. You are attempting to define the argument by saying this professor has the right to infringe on people’s space in a private business setting as being the same as the business owner using free speech to answer a question in an interview.

There was no sit-in, I was there breakfast, lunch and dinner, the place was jammed and by 5pm the wait was 1 1/2 hours. There were 50-60 cars in line. While waiting outside (with my dog) while my wife was inside the atmosphere was like that of a party. In the hour I was waiting, one idiot drove by on Broadway blaring his horn and flipping everyone the finger, classy! Call the CFA in Tucson (520-321-4232) and show support for this classy young lady!

No. It is a victimless crime at that should it be a crime.
If it is a crime and people get arrested, then we can stand together on the subject. However, I have yet to here of a hate police going around rounding up people for being gay couples and partners. The issue is acceptance, and it will always be. Acceptance from a community.

It is not simply Chick-Fil-A is in support of something, but that they actively support groups that are very ANTI.
Let’s look at your color analogy. You are right, simply because you like the color purple does not mean you hate other colors. However, if you were giving money to anti-blue groups, groups that helped other countries forge “death to blue” bills, groups that believe blue should be criminalized, or anyone wearing blue should be deported, there is a great case to be made that you hate blue.
Of course, to complete the analogy, like Chick-Fil-A and it’s cowardly supporters, you would not admit to being “anti-blue” but rather say, “I don’t hate blue, I’m just pro-purple.”

Then you went after the 10 Commandments in our court rooms and State Capitals, because it might be offensive for someone. Then you went after Christmas forcing many city’s to put bans on putting up any Religious displays in our yards, schools including putting up a Nativity Scene in front of our Capitals. Yes, it is you and people like you who are the intolerant ones who cannot stand that, Heavens for bid, we may believe in something you do not. The only nations in the world that kill, jail, or deport gay people are those that are not predominantly Christian in faith. Catch my drift? The truth is, I’m not really a religious guy, but I look around and see who is killing gays. We’re not. You should check on who is killing them. Take notes. Pay attention to detail.
You know, if Chick-Fil-A refused to hire a gay person or refused to serve one at the counter, I’d be the first to support a civil backlash against them. But that’s not what this is.
Getting back to your accusation, when you make a charge like that, unless you wish to be viewed like the empty suit, Harry Reid, where your word isn’t worth 50 cents, you had better have the evidence to back it up. What say you?
