Police in Colombia have been cracking down on the South American nation’s powerful and brazen cartels. A recent police checkpoint intercepted an ambulance carrying 65 kilos of pure cocaine near the Colombia-Venezuela border;
The find comes in the same week as a much larger haul. The Telegraph reports that authorities recently seized 2.5 tons of cocaine wrapped in 87 waterproof sacks buried in the desert near the Carribbean coast and town of Maracaidito. ITN reports the find is worth $65 million. Colombia is the world’s largest producer of cocaine.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 4:36pmDecriminalize it and the problems go away. Big problem users will be violating outside of the decriminalized aspects and end up off the streets, being much easier to deal with than making every user a felon and unemployable.. Police will be freed up to deal with the petty thieves and pushers..

Posted on September 3, 2011 at 4:51pmThe 40m they seized today pales in comparison to the 200m they probably missed. It’s big business, dirty as it is, and as long as there is a demand, there will always be a supply.

Posted on September 3, 2011 at 4:45pmOh wow. That’s so unusual. U.S. Customs was seizing cocaine and marijuana out of north-bound Mexican ambulances long before this – long before Homeland Security ever decided to declare the border secure – from anything but everything.
