Colorado Elementary School Under Fire After Saudi Flag Raised Above American Flag

A Fort Collins, Colorado, elementary school has ignited anger and frustration after the American flag was lowered and the Saudi Arabian flag was elevated in a room inside the educational facility.
Strong responses followed after an image of the flags’ positions was originally posted on a local blog. Despite the debate and attention this incident has been given, Bauder Elementary School principal, Brian Carpenter, claims that he has no idea how this happened.
In his response to media, he reiterated the fact that there was not an intention to disrespect America. In fact, the flag situation, he says, was rectified as soon as he was made aware of it. Carpenter told the The Greeley Gazette the following:
“The American flag is very important to us and this country so we treat it with respect.”
Aside from the idea that placing another nation‘s flag above America’s is simply not patriotic, there are legal regulations that prevent such an action. The Gazette has more:
The display is a violation of Public Law 94-344 of the Federal Flag Law which states “No other flag or pennant should be placed above, or, if on same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America,…No person shall display the flag of the United Nations or any other national or international flag equal, above, or in a position of superior prominence or honor to, or in place of, the United States at any place within the United States or any territory or possession thereof:…”:

Some, of course, would wonder why a Saudi flag was up at Bauder Elementary to begin with. Carpenter explained that the school has international flags posted around the facility. They are intended to recognize the diverse nationalities of both students and parents, alike, he says.
Carpenter continues:
“We realize this is an extremely sensitive time with us getting close to the 10th anniversary of 9/11. There is an increased amount of alertness and sensitivity, but if someone is concerned about something to do with our flag I will settle the issue right away.”
The principal believes that the image was likely taken before the current school year commenced. If captured over the summer, this could mean that the flags were accidentally disrupted during cleaning and classroom preparation. Also, there is a potential that they were purposefully placed in these infamous positions to create controversy. But these are merely theories.
Of course, it’s possible that this was, indeed, done intentionally by someone working at the school. Either way, it seems the situation has been remedied (for now, at least).

It amazes me how people clamor to get into this country and onto the rolls of entitlement programs — but they have no desire to leave their native country and its traditions and heritage behind. Same thing as when the Europeans showed up from the 2nd century forward, with premeditated notions of exterminating indigenous people. They wanted what was here, but wanted to bring their own religions, traditions, cultures, and education tenets along with them, and wanted the existing residents to drop dead. According to wordnet.princeton.edu, multiculturalism is “the doctrine that several different cultures (rather than one national culture) can coexist peacefully and equitably in a single country.”
Based on this definition, name one country that has an equal amount cultures existing peacefully within its borders. They have to be represented equally to fit the definition and they have to be existing peacefully to meet the definition.
Name one country where the definition is upheld completely and I will concede that Multiculturalism does work.
But, if you can’t name one country, or the country in which you name does not meet the definition, then you must concede that Multiculturalism does not work.

The person who did this had to be aware of the implication of having a foreign flag displayed at a higher location than the U.S. flag. On the other hand, this would not have been an issue had it not been allowed. There’s absolutely no reason to have any foreign flag displayed in a public school. But then again perhaps the offending student was simply confused since our president when meeting the Saudi king did humble himself with a deep bow.

Actually, in GB the US flag does fly at the site of the Mayflower memorial (which is pretty cool, btw.) And when we lived in Kuwait for two years and Pres. Bush came during his last Middle East tour, the country flew several American flags in downtown Kuwait, along the presidential route. What a sight for sore eyes that was. Really, it did my heart good to see the American flag. But- that does not mean the Kuwaiti’s should have flown it more often just for me. It meant that I did not belong there and needed to come home. And that is what it means for every person living within the US who identifies him/her- self with another country. If you miss your flag that much- its time to go home!
But- I know what you are saying and agree. The only place in the US where the Saudi flag is appropriate would be at the UN or its embassy. Not that we should even have a UN, just sayin…

This is flag protocol aboard USS (US mil vessels) at sea when passing or being passed by a foreign ship of War. They didn’t even get the American flag in the holder right. If it had been done malicously, they would have gotten to the flag pole outside. Some kid did it for shock value. There seems to be a lot more dishonest and deranged teachers than when I grew up. I remember 3 in all my years. My nephew seems to have at least one every year. This year he has one that won’t use his real name and calls him by some strange name instead.

Bauder Elementary School serves an international population and flags in the center lobby represent the individual nationalities of its students.
Last Monday, the district became aware that a photo that implied that another nation’s flag was flying higher than the American flag was published on a local blog. The American flag was immediately returned to its rightful position in the middle of the flag display in the school’s center lobby. International flags fly on an angle below it in a position of deference.
Neither school staff nor district administration were responsible for the removal of the American flag from its customary location.
Bauder Elementary and Poudre School District respect the position of our country’s flag and the sensitive nature of this issue. As such, the American flag always flies at the highest point of the display.

Report Post »so my thought would be: Do they do that for Christianity? in the teaching arena? ie give a report when you shared the gospel with 5 people, what were their responses? how does this differ from your expectations…? class assignments you can bet this NEVER happens!
The flag issue shows they disrespect our country and disreguard protocol concerning the flag, the pledge of allegiance and the whole gamut where patriotism and American exceptionalism is concerned! Posted on September 6, 2011 at 12:00pmI am so thankful that I approached a Muslim shortly after 9/11. He explained that all I had to do to make up for all of sins was to become a better person. Later, I understood that to mean praying daily (5 times if possible), give to charity, proclaim Allah, Muhammad and the Koran and go to Mecca if possible. Then, perhaps the all-forgiving Allah would make a place for me in Heaven.
However, I knew that I was sunk on the first account. I am so thankful that I knew that I could never measure up for Allah. So I didn’t even try. It also led me investigate the possibility that Jesus was the way. I knew that I was going to Hell for what I had done in life. I was right (although for the wrong reason). I gave in to the possibility that just maybe Jesus is who He says He is. He has since proven Himself to me over and over in innumerable ways. Yes, I am thankful for a crazy Muslim by the name of bin Laden, who indirectly led me to true salvation.

Also, why are we continually forced to have these conversations? If progressives focused their energies on making this a more productive country instead of this crap, we’d be humming right along as we once did. Instead, a sect of angry and envious Americans think they know a better way to hum along that doesn’t involved the Constitution or traditional American ideals. These people need to be called out and rebuked.
