Coming Soon: The ObamaCare Comic Book?

The MIT economist credited with crafting President Barack Obama’s national health care overhaul law has reportedly started work on his latest venture: a comic book that explains the law in the simplest of terms.

Jonathan Gruber, a health economist who devised Obamacare’s economic structure, says his children inspired him to use the comic format to explain the law to Americans in plain language. “I’m going to use the facts to tell the story,” Gruber, 45, said Monday. “I’m the narrator guiding the reader through the law. It’ll have lots of pictures and text.”

According to the Boston Herald, the publishing powerhouse Farrar, Straus and Giroux plans to release Gruber’s book — “Health Care Reform: What It Is, Why It’s Necessary, How It Works” — in the fall.

In Gruber’s opinion, the majority of Americans do not like the law because they don’t understand it. “I just wasn’t sure if this would be useful enough,” Gruber said. “Then my wife and kids said, ‘You’re crazy. You’ve got to do this.’ So I decided to give it a shot.”

Gruber also played a key role in developing Romneycare, the state health care plan implemented during former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s tenure.

“There’s a fundamental lack of economic security in our country,” Gruber explained. “If you don’t get insurance from your employer, you are one bad gene, or one bad car accident away from losing everything.”

Gruber’s editor, Thomas LeBien, has reportedly also used the comic-book medium to educate people about the U.S. Constitution and the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the Herald adds.

“It’s a marvelous medium,” LeBien said. “There’s a long tradition of turning to them to take complicated information and render it accessible to the widest audience.”

“My family made me realize that there’s such a misunderstanding of the bill, and that it’s important to explain why we need this, and what it does,” Gruber said. “I’ve found that when people understand it, they like it.”

    @JOHN 1776,

    DITTO!

When are they going to realize that the people clearly DO understand what Obamacare is all about and that‘s why they don’t want it. This just makes them look even more ignorant. Why don’t they just give it up already?

So now MaoBama is going to borrow more money from China so the federal government can get into the comic book business? Of course a comic book would be the only fit venue for his policies but I don’t believe we should have to pay for it. If he wants to publish comic books let his puppet master George Soros pay for it.

This is the result of Obama and his supporters “THINKING” . . . hum? We are way to smart to come up with a stupid idea . . . it must be the stupidity of the American‘s who don’t get it. What shall we do? Hey, what about a comic book – telling them what it is, why its necessary and how it works?

Good idea . . . one problem – we don‘t know what it is yet and we don’t have a clue how it works?

      Opps.

“Health Care Reform: What it is? Why it is necessary? How it works?”

Here’s the executive summary for the soon to be published “scifi” comic.

It is a socialistic “cowpie” of a program designed by socialists and rammed through against the will of the American people by the dumbest Speaker in the history of the WORLD.

It is necessary – in the same way that recorded “bird sounds” are necessary in a car wash. It just fits
the weird needs of the folks in charge at the time.

It works by taking away many dollars and freedoms – and utilizes millions of dollars paying Andy of Mayberry and P-Diddy to tell you how lucky you are to be on the “No Way List” for a new hip.

I can’t wait to see this!

I would have to disagree with you that looking at pictures is not reading.

      Pictures are words.

Logos are images and is the basis of phonics:

Phonics involves teaching how to connect the sounds of spoken English with letters or groups of letters (e.g., that the sound /k/ can be represented by c, k, ck, ch, or q spellings) and teaching them to blend the sounds of letters together to produce approximate pronunciations of unknown words.

You have to recognize the image to know what sound to make.

There is an interesting theory that may tie into this having to do with synesthesia, “Bouba-Kiki Effect”.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouba/kiki_effect

I’ve tried this test with a number of people, and it is very accurate.

Take it from a linguist, Sinista.
A simple binary choice reflects very little on applicability to the varied complexity of human language, even in its phonic iterations. Besides, we’re not talking about iconic images here, it’s graphic illustration of concepts, or art as pedagogical medium.
Also vis LeBien’s quote: “There’s a long tradition of turning to them to take complicated information and render it accessible to the widest audience.”
Long history of turning to comics, yes. But NOT to be accessible to widest audience, only to lowest common denominator audience. Even the dying print newspapers have higher subscription rates than comic books.

Oh, I remember the days when an MIT diploma meant something. Maybe it was an honorary degree, because he doesn’t have a clue about economics if he crafted this bill. Wait , I misread the article – he’s a HEALTH economist… now it makes sense. He’s used to dealing with $4 cotton balls and $8 tongue depressers, and having insurance pick up the outragous tab, no matter how rediculously high. He just applied the same formula using healthcare costs as a whole, and the taxpayers as the ones picking up the bill. I hope the last page has a panoramic view of America smoldering in ruins.

any thing but the truth .

New documents released under the Freedom of Information Act confirm that the FBI received a phone call the day before the Oklahoma City bombing warning that the attack was imminent, and that the feds tried to reach a deal with bomber Terry Nichols to take the death penalty off the table if he admitted making the call.

The documents were released to Salt Lake City lawyer Jesse Trentadue, who in the course of of a 15 year battle in trying to ascertain why his brother was tortured to death during an FBI interrogation related to the case, has all but proven the attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Building was an inside job run by FBI agents who were handling Timothy McVeigh.

“What that indicates to me, there is a record somewhere of that phone call and the FBI needs to explain it,” said Trentadue in an interview with KTOK News. “If the call was from one of their informants with McVeigh, clearly, they had knowledge of the bombing and didn’t stop it.”
      http://www.infowars.com/confirmed-fbi-got-warning-day-before-okc-bombing/

The feds’ attempt to make Nichols accept responsibility for the phone call occurred in 2005 after Nichols was visited by an attorney named Michael Selby who claimed he was working for the government and would guarantee Nichols was spared the death penalty if he played ball in covering up FBI foreknowledge and involvement in the bombing plot.

Does it include little Chimmi Changa who got the ends of her feet cut off because her mom couldn‘t afford to buy her a larger pair of shoes and the dr’s decided they could make some money off of her mom who apparently had health insurance or they wouldn’t have done the operation? Or better yet the woman who was wearing her dead sisters dentures because she couldn’t afford a set of her own? I can’t wait to read how horrible the health care system is (was) and how our Liberal (Progressive) Saviors have saved us. How can they say now how horrible the health care system “was” and how wonderful it is now when the bill doesnt’ kick into effect for a couple of years? THE PRESIDENT’S PLAN TO SAVE SOCIAL SECURITY:

Our President has a courageous plan to save both Social Security and Medicare

The Social Security Trust Fund is almost bankrupt and the Medicare trust fund is bankrupt. The problem has been apparent for years but until now no one has advanced a plan to save these popular programs.

At last, our President has the courage to propose a solution! It is so simple that one wonders why no one thought of it before. The solution?

Enact a “Health Care Reform Bill” the severely rations health care to the elderly. This will save the Medicare Trust Fund and allow it to be used to reward the Presidents political cronies and provide health care for “deserving Illegal Aliens.”

Deprived of medical care, the lifespan of the elderly will be reduced, depleting the number of recipients of the Social Security Trust Fund, saving that popular program.

Both problems solved! Why did it take so long to find such a simple solution?

Of course, the Congress and the President are exempted from the solution so they can perpetuate the problem. http://commonsense21c.com/

Perhaps Congress could repeal the 2700 page law and just pass the comic book.

That’s an interesting opinion from a linguist, but with all due respect, this statement is looking at this from a 2 dimensional perspective instead of an all encompassing vortex geometry based perspective.

What I mean is that the binary choice is not simply binary, but encoded with information that is based on a vortex, which defines the boundaries of the binary representations of the images and gives them individuality. They are distinct images but encoded with information that adds additional dimensionality to their description.

For example, Hebrew, one of the oldest languages, are represented by by symbols which have multidimensional definition. The entire hebrew alphabet can be displayed by a golden mean spiral rotating in a tetrahedron, and so can the entire english alphabet.

      Real mathematics are not base-10.

It is base – 1.618 (phi)

The circuit is a doubling circuit.

In electronics, we call that a voltage doubler.

It’s one of the secrets to free energy, where you can take the smallest trace voltage and exponentially increase it by a factor of 2 until you have millions of volts. The current of course decreases with an increase in voltage, but that‘s the reason we’re supposed to design devices that operate on the lowest possible current, by utilizing the vortex geometry yielding the longest mean free pathway of least resistance.

They had to do it as a comic book so Obama’s supporters can read and understand it!

@ Sinista > Kudos for the amount of thought put into your concept. I’m not arguing for a completely arbitrary conception of the link between linguistic forms and their graphic representations, so I partially agree with you on the substance. I’m just pointing out that if you generalize that too far, you’re falling for the association = causation fallacy. The logic you describe doesn’t hold THROUGHOUT language, it just rightly calls into question de Saussure’s original supposition of total arbitrariness.
@ Citizen > you crack me up dude
@ Tower > Be relevant at least, you conspiracy whack-job troll.

It does sum up what the elitist left thinks of the general IQ of the nation. “They just don’t understand this great law, we need to make a comic book up so that the simple minded masses can understand.”
      - – - – - – -
I keep thinking, “What the government giveth, the government can taketh away.”
I keep thinking, “I have a RIGHT to healthcare.” (Our rights are endowed by our Creator.)
I keep thinking about all those years we pay into the healthcare program, but “What the government giveth, the governemtn can taketh away.”
So, what happens then to all that money paid in? And, what guarantee do the seniors have that we will be provided healthcare? “What the governement giveth, the government can take away.”

This administration does not give a damn about it citizens, about what the citizens want, or what the citizens do not want. This administration wants only CONTROL over our lives and as much of our money as it can squeeze out of us.

This is certainly hilarious…. And a waste of time. Anybody who needs this level of propaganda… er education, believe this tripe already and are already on the kool aid. You’re preaching to the choir idiot.

      Meanwhile… Back in reality:

What the new healthcare bill has done for me:

In a statement released by my employer, the increases are directly related to mandated provisions to meet the new healthcare “standards”

      My premium doubled.
      My deductible doubled.
My co-pay went up by 30%
I am no longer able to use co-pays to pay for labs, diagnostics and x-rays. I now have to pay full price until I meet my deductible.

What I got for the increases:

Before I got to opt in or out of prenatal/maternity care. Now I am forced to have it. I’m 45. No more kids for me.

I can now add my 24 year old child, who is a grown up and should be paying for her own coverage.

A co-worker who has a “pre-existing” condition… Sure he got coverage, but his diabetic supplies went from costing him $250 per month to over $1000 for the exact same prescriptions.

I’m sorry, but there is no room for politics here. It shouldn‘t matter whether you’re Democrat or Republican. The new healthcare bill has only harmed me.

Maybe they should have given this comic book to Congress so they could read and understand it before voting on it.

A comic book is appropriate considering Obamcare is a joke.
