Conan Mocks Conservatives Who Think ‘Cars 2’ Has Liberal Bias

Conan Mocks Conservatives Who Think Cars 2 Has Liberal BiasIf you missed the recent controversy surrounding “Cars 2,” allow me to recap: As details surrounding the movie have emerged, conservatives have charged that its storyline has a liberal bias. These critics believe that the movie holds the power to indoctrinate youths by railing against fossil fuels and advocating for alternative forms of energy. Newsbusters explains:

When John Lasseter moved from executive producer to executive director last year, he overhauled major portions of the plot into a good vs. evil story against big oil.

While one could easily assume that conservatives are blowing the situation out of proportion, Lasseter has essentially admitted to crafting a storyline that takes on oil companies, while trumpeting alternative energies. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he said:

We revamped the whole story, the whole bad-guy arc…I kept thinking about, “OK. A spy movie in the world where cars are alive. What would be a really good kind of über bad guy? Who is an über bad guy?” I kept going to big oil. This is before what happened in the Gulf of Mexico.

Why isn’t alternative fuel more… Why isn’t everybody jumping on that bandwagon? It makes so much sense: Electricity, solar, whatever. There’s ethanol. There’s all this stuff you could be doing. And so I thought, well, that could be really cool in that you could have big oil versus alternative fuel. That’s when we kind of crafted the bad guy’s story.

Upon hearing about conservative responses to the film, comedian Conan O’Brien jumped into the mix and created his own version of the “Cars 2” trailer. The short clip, which takes on a number of conservative stances, is intended to tease those who call the movie biased. Watch Conan’s video below:

Now that you’ve seen the faux trailer, you can watch the real one here:

What do you think. Biased…or not?

Yep, you were indoctrinated all right.

Do you have any idea how many years worth of oil we have available to us, if we would only go after it?

So you think we pump out great music, movies and art? Please give us some examples.

    @ The_Almighty_Creestof:
No, the sad thing is that (ignorant and/or at least apathetic) liberals like yourself continue to elect Liberal/Progressives who will not allow access to the incredible reserves of oil which the US has under its OWN SOIL!! We’ve got more oil in the Bokken Oil Fields than the rest of the world combined! And the problem with this sort of Leftist Propaganda is that it conditions our kids to automatically reject arguments based on rational thought and fact and instead, support progressive legislation which destroys freedom and choice. Do you know how much we rely on fossil fuels in this country? Upwards of %93! We get as much electricity from WOOD BURNING as we do from Wind and Solar COMBINED (approx. 2% each). I am a proponent of advancing research and development ofalternative fuels. Hopefully to the point where they can replace fossil fuels. Because Alt Fuels ARE cleaner. But right now, they’re NOT more efficient, and certainly not ubiquitous, like oil/coal/gas. Let the Market drive the development of these and bring them to the marketplace and let consumers realize they are a better CHOICE. That time has not come and will not, as long as Progressives “drive the car.”

Any liberal biased in a cartoon is aimed at the adults. And the adults who fear that can explain to their children that fossil fuels are not evil nor is alternative energy. All resources are good and should be used under a free market system. Kids will laugh because it’s a cartoon to them. don’t blow this out of proportion and sink to their level. Use some critical thinking!

First of all you can tell the difference when running ethanol. Secondly, 1 Gallon of ethanol contains about 76,000 BTU (BTU- is the amount of energy that is contained it) — Gasoline has about 116,000 BTU
Since 15% of an E85 car contains gasoline, the reduction in mileage is between 24% to 34% less for E85 vehicles.

The funny part to this is to make 1 gallon of ethanol which contains 76,000 BTU, it requires 98,000 BTU just to make it.

I love the liberal mantra of selling the alternative energy story to those who follow the narrative. If all cars are electric, do you know how many more power plants it takes to power these cars? People have actually told me that we should build parking lots with solar cells on the roof to recharge the hundreds or thousands of electric cars inside. As an engineer, I’m totally amazed how uninformed the public is, (I believe on purpose) to the realities of energy we use to live day to day. The media and politicians keep the preposterous narrative alive that presently we could harness these “renewable” resources to power our industries and lives and remove our dependence on oil and gas and nuclear power. I would love to see liberal bastions like Hollywood power their movie businesses with wind and solar power only and see them scream when they can’t heat their pools, air condition their mansions and be driven in their electric limousines at night, and on cloudy and still days.

Hollywood is the World center for entertainment blockbusters that thrill general audiences.

The reason some entertainment that comes out of Hollywood makes Mega-Millions is because it is the world’s best entertainment. The fact that Hollywood routinely produces such high quality master-pieces put that Atlas Shrugged Part 1 failure-piece in it’s place in less than two weeks.

Well, coverag like this could put a MAJOR dent in Disney/Pixar’s boxoffice receipts for Cars 2.
I wonder if that will wake them up?
They keep going further and further left.
      Disney’s BASE is CONSERVATIVE America.
But, they have forgotten that, and take us for granted.
The ASSUME they have our business, so they keep going further and further left to try to get a bigger slice of the pie. They are about to find out that they are sacrificing their EXISTING slice of the pie to chase the next slice. The secret is to GROW the pie, not try to take more for yourself. A bigger pie means everyone benefits.

      Sigh.

It all started with a mouse… And it will all end with a car… because of greed and political power-lust.

Maybe I should cancel my Premium Annual Pass, to Disneyland / Walt Disney World, too?

tom ferrari, creestof has the right idea. preserving and conserving used to be the heart of the conservative message. i know many republicans that realize we are beholden to the middle east, almost entirely because of oil. and the fact is, we have been using the combustion engine for about 100 years, its about time we became energy dependent. and that has litttle to do with tapping our own supplies, what we have will run out. thats not even up for debate, its a fact. i find it hard to believe that we have to go from point a to point b based on 100 year old technology. many conservatives agree. this is not a strictly “liberal” issue. being a conservative automatically makes us shills for the oil industry? i don’t think so.

moreover, the movie is entertainment, for your kids, if you don’t like it, watch something else. face it, liberals run hollywood, and america pumps out great music, movies and art for the whole world. its our second largest export right now.

      creestof -

      Bless your heart.

The reason we won’t see widespread solar in our lifetimes is that it is not commercially viable – it has nothing to do with energy sources that came before it. That is like blaming hay for not having flying cars – hay fed the horses, but it did not prohibit the development of flying cars. (YES, they DO exist – they are just not commercially viable) – google Moller flying car if you need to see them.

Then, there is that RINO, the governator – who signed an electricity contract with the electric companies that allows them to jack up your rates to their highest tier – (5 times that of the low tier) – if you install solar on your house – so, if you don’t install enough for 100% of your needs, you end up paying MORE for your electricity.

In summary, the reasons you won’t see ubiqutious solar is:
      1) It is not commercially viable
      2) Greed and Corruption

And then there is the amount of energy an pollution required to PRODUCE the solar panels.

Okay, I take it back – you don’t DRINK too much koolaid –

I am more saddened by the lost innocence of childhood. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is political now. Children’s entertainment used to carry messages of character: things like resourcefulness, thrift, honesty, bravery, charity and honor. Now, they are focused on fulfilling an agenda, and it’s always leftward. Modern kid’s show subjects include gay marriage, equality for illegal immigrants, anti-corporatism and anti-capitalism, the villainy of the rich, anthropogenic global warming as fact, multiculturalism and “saving the planet” as being more virtuous than the people living in it.

Hollywood has no obligation to remain politically neutral, their movies can lean as far left or right as they choose. And thank, God they have that freedom; even more so, thank, God, I have the freedom to choose whether or not, I or my children will watch them.

tom ferrari, creestof has the right idea. preserving and conserving used to be the heart of the conservative message. i know many republicans that realize we are beholden to the middle east, almost entirely because of oil. and the fact is, we have been using the combustion engine for about 100 years, its about time we became energy dependent.
      _______________________________________

How much oil do we get from the ME?…20%…a little more?

“been using the combustion engine for 100 yrs.”…..sooo..lets jump into the future and use windmills and choo-choo trains?

      _______________

Or, we could go get our own, since we’re sitting on oil fields that contain more oil that all the middle east combined. That way, we could put more Americans to work, reduce the cost of domestic gasoline by 125%, and spark a boom in the economy. Of course, we won’t because it might mean that oil companies (and their investors- you know, stockholders and retirement program owners like you and me) might profit, and we wouldn’t be funding tinpot dictators in the middle eats devoted to the instructional of Israel, and it might mean that capitalism survives, and we wouldn’t want any of that, would we?

It is almost impossible to find any really funny movies anymore. All the comedy writers want to do is make some kind of point, which is seldom funny. Indoctrination of children by strangers is also not funny. Right now, there is no alternative to fossel fuels so our children need to learn how to live with it and try to make thing better for the future. And how did planned parenthood get written into a “funny” kids movie?

Really not suprised at Conan being a lib… he worked on SNL for years…
On the issue of powering this nation… if those with the money (Big Oil, Big Auto, Big Power) would want to revolutionize our nation and bring the second industrial age to america, they need to think ahead… Hydrocarbons has been great and reliable fuel source, and can still be.. but needs to be used more efficiently… If we as a nation lead and retool from a hydrocarbon society to a hydrogen society(as some futurist suggest) we could extend those resources we have, rebuild our nations industries, and lead. Between accessing the hydrogen in oil, natural gas, water, and methane hydrate, we could power fuel cells, run automobiles(both fuel cells, and use hydrogen in ICE vehicles). This switch over could extend our energy into the 22nd century, and allow us to figure out fussion and make it feasible.
Detroit make fuel cell powered cars, Texas uses the waste gas off the oilwells, refineries, and trash dumps to produce hydrogen as well as the nat gas, oil, and water they could use.
we switch to a hydrogen based society, we can tell the arabs to pound sand… without the desire for arab oil, their terrorist societies cannot be funded…
We need a leader in office that will prepare america to make the leap….

      Ethanol – there’s a good one.

As grain production shifts from wheat to corn, the amount of surplus wheat declines and its price increases.

Since the ethanol mandate the cost of surplus wheat has doubled, when this food is needed to feed the poorest of the world, the decreased supply and the increased price prevents it from reaching as many as it used to, and people starve as the result.

Ethanol, the liberal backed, tree hugging solution that is actually killing people.

hey all_mighty_creestof…..it hasn’t been foreign governments holding us hostage over oil for decades…it’s been our own government….the united states has some of the largest oil and gas reserves in the world. the green movement over the last 3 decades is more responsible for us being over a barrel (exuse the pun) than opec. turn the private sector loose and stop allowing morons like al gore to influence national energy policy, do away with the dept. of energy…they’ve never produced a single barrel of oil or kilowatt of electricity and drill everything everywhere. i worked in the petroleum industry for 11 years…don’t let the left convince you it will be 10 years before we see any benefit from drilling our own reserves….that’s a boat load. when kuwait’s oil fields were on fire during the first gulf war the left told us it would be 3 years or more before they could all be extinguished…boots and coots put them all out in 3 months. the government is populated with mental midgets, don’t listen to them.

So tell me, what is “conservative” about oil, and “liberal” about alternative energy? What is so offensive to conservatives about working towards better energy production? How exactly is it that the Tea Party claims to be a populist organization while rushing to defend huge oil corporations at a moments notice?

Oh geez Almighty–alternative is fine in addition to what we do have, but we have the resources, we should USE them. We don’t HAVE to depend on anyone. Enviromoonbats want everyone to think that’s why we go to war, that we are killing the polar bears, etc. In reality, these people are being used, and anyone who can’t see that our government (and other country’s govts) is merely lining us up to charge us on puffs of air so that we all have to sit in the dark and eventually BEG THEM for food is blind.

      creestof, You said,
“Maybe you’d prefer sticking to just oil and funding terrorists with every gallon of gas you buy?
Maybe early alzheimers has finally struck and you think America has enough untapped oil to cover our needs and allowing us to be independent?”

      My response:
NO, I’d rather we use our own natural resources. We actually have 300 yrs worth of oil HERE. 300 YEARS.
We have additonal centuries worth of natural gas and coal – YEP, I said it, “COAL”!!!

As for your accusations of alzheimers – you should be ashamed – though I know you socialist democrat people HAVE NO SHAME – to you, there is no right and wrong, only “what YOU demand” and “everything else”. Shameful – alzheimers is a serious, and debilitating disease. God willing, YOU will never have to deal with it yourself, or with someone you love. You are disgusting using it as a personal attack or slur.

As for my BAC – the last alcohol that entered my body was in the form of Nyquil for a cold. Prior to that, it was about 3 yrs ago when I enjoyed a glass of cabernet AT DISNEYLAND @ The Napa Rose. Sorry to disappoint you. I do not need alcohol. Funny you would assume I do. Freud would have called that transferrence.

By the way, regarding your personal attacks on me…

      @Publius

Most people are not engineers and do not have the slightest idea how things work. Liberals use this public ignorance of engineering to politicize green energy ideas and these libs make up wild untrue stories as to their efficacy. They teach these wild fantasy green energy lies and scary tales about oil and gas to our children and the children bring these lies home to their parents who also have no understanding of engineering. Green energy is very good as far as it goes and we all hope that there will be more application for green energy in the future when new inventions occur and the cost goes down. Breakthrough inventions on green energy are very hard to come by, so right now we must live within our means and stay with oil and gas and maintain hope of new inventions in future. That is the correct and also, BTW, conservative position. BTW, electric cars are great, as far as they go. Now all we need is for someone to invent a good battery to run these horseless carriages, something they have been trying to do for a long time.
