GOP Challenger Responds to Grayson‘s ’Taliban Dan’ Attack Ad

From the re-election campaign of Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., comes this controversial new campaign ad, accusing his challenger, Republican Daniel Webster, of being a religious fundamentalist comparable to the Taliban:

In comments to Mediaite, a Grayson campaign spokesperson defended the ad, saying, “The Taliban is an extremist government regime that forced its crazy right-wing views on the populace it governs. If elected, Dan Webster would force his extreme crazy right-wing views on Central Florida.”

In response, the Webster campaign has fired back, calling the ad “ludicrous.”

“Alan Grayson is simply trying to distract voters from his record of higher taxes, increased debt, and rising unemployment.  Central Florida deserves better than Mr. Grayson’s gutter-politics and dirty mouth.”

Editor’s note: Stu Burguiere, of The Glenn Beck Program, has looked at Factcheck.org’s analysis of the Grayson ad. He examines  the remarkable context of the original remarks.  Click here to read the astounding report.  Meanwhile, Grayson is sticking by his ad.

I live in this psycho’s district and he was elected over a descent congressman in the last election (Ric Keller) by using these kind of personal attack ads. This man is truly sick. Hopefully we will vote him out, but I see a few Grayson signs in the local yards. Loons live in every community.

Grayson is the dirtiest man ever represented Congress in recent years and the people of Florida should kick this jackass in November. Ask what this idiot has done for his constituents? Best way to counter smear campaigns is with truth. I looked around, googled around, I did not find evidence supporting those claims of Grayson. However, I did find sources which Grayson is twisting around to fit his agenda.

On Vietnam service, appears Webster has or did have a medical condition disqualifying him from service. I have not found details on this other than his wife citing this. An old issue of this sort is simply not worthy of discussion.

This “submit to your wife” thing is a sound byte from a speech by Webster. Easy to see how Grayson is twisting this around. Here is the original Webster quote which includes the sound byte provided by the Webster campaign staff:

“I have verses for my wife. Don’t pick the ones that say, um ‘She should submit to me.’ That’s in the Bible, but pick the ones that you’re supposed to do. So instead, ‘love your wife, even as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it’ as opposed to “wives submit to your own husbands.’”

The Orlando Sentinel sheds light on the other sources of the Grayson attack ad:

    ——

One says “Dan Webster wants to MAKE DIVORCE ILLEGAL,” a reference to a bill Webster sponsored in 1990 that would have given couples the option of entering a covenant marriage, which would have allowed divorce only in cases of adultery. The legislation failed.

Another says “Dan Webster voted to deny abused women health care,” referring to a vote against legislation that would have prevented insurance companies from listing domestic violence as a pre-existing condition.

And a third says “Daniel Webster wants to force raped women to bear their attackers’ child,” citing a 1990s newspaper story in which the then-state representative said he opposed abortion even in cases of rape and incest.

    http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2010-09-26/news/os-grayson-webster-taliban-ad-20100926_1_grayson-tv-campaign-ad-women-voters

    ——

This “option…covenant marriage” is not making divorce illegal, this is an option.

This “pre-existing condition” issue is actually protecting abused women from being denied medical coverage.

This “abortion issue” is Webster stating his personal opinion, not writing legislation.

Quite obvious Grayson is twisting truth to deceive Americans.

Best method to defend against attack ads like this is search for and find truth, then spread this truth. This is information which should be shared in political blogs all over the web. Rather than rant and rave about Grayson, go out there on the web and share truth with readers. Truth is a weapon which can never be defeated.

Not needed. I am only citing what I believe to be truth.

DEUTSCHER adds, “There is far too much one-dimensional thought here.”

Yes, quite a bit of shallow thinking. This is true of almost all political blogs but this type of thinking does seem a concentrated version here. Adding some cold water might thin out this fever pitch a bit.

Webster states he intends to run a clean campaign and, so far, he is. I admire this. Participants here sitting in front of their computers typing out invectives about his opponent, is not helpful. What is helpful is spending some time visiting political blogs and sharing truth, with respect.

One of my objectives here at the Blaze is to encourage people to think better, to become more knowledgeable and to organize for power. This is the way to win our war to have our America back.

There is my splash of cold water to wake up single dimensional thinkers.

      Taha,
one thing we would like to illustrate you on is that we really don’t want our Government to have eneormous power. At least not like it does today. We would prefere a small federal governance footprint on our lands, not this large regressive one.
I can watch my own self, I can and am prepared to answer for all my wrongs as well as my correct actions. I despise any authority that tries to manipulate or intimadate me, and will always rise up in word to speak my heart on the matter. Perhaps it’s the Cree in me that makes me do so, but even the Cree knows that the “tourists” are hear to stay. I could count coo all day long and what would that gain me, This warrior needs to run the path of a sucessfull hunt. I desire to allow the system to be what it was ment to be, for in it I CAN be the best me I can be. The regressive party wants to hand me out “blankets” for my own good, I remember the last bunch of “Blankets” and the ancestors still cry out. The “system” is far from perfect, and we can sit in the sweat for days awaiting a totem of clarity, but the real meaning of the dream is simple. The system that was started to end, after the “lo\ng walk”, and the pale ones didn’t even see it, have never seen it. The “system” today is but a contrary child riding mother backwards, and is not the system that the “man who could not be killed” brought into life 240 odd years ago. At least “father of nations” held up a system that will allow the people to grow as people, the regressives want to do your growing for you. Are you so weak sister that you can not run the red path by youself?

The health of traditional marriage has an economic impact on America’s future. Mr Webster should bridge the concept that an unhealthy marriage to seek help to heal indifferences to keep more families together.

Children raised in married households do better on every significant measurement of personal well-being and attainment. They perform better in school, commit fewer crimes, engage in fewer risky behaviors, experience less poverty, and have fewer marital problems as adults. The annual cost of means-tested welfare alone for single parents is $300 billion. Over the past 40 years, out-of-wedlock births have gone from 10 percent of all births to 40.6 percent in 2008, which is straining our system. The Heritage Foundation has a four-point plan to counter this trend and strengthen the foundation of our socio-economic health.

Reminding people of their partisan loyalties makes them more likely to buy smears about their political opponents. Reminding people to think about their own race prompts them to buy smears about someone from a different race. Reminding people to think about their own age prompts them to buy smears about someone much older. If you can remind people about their own political allegiance and their race at the same time, they are extra willing to buy a smear about someone from another party and another race.

Our willingness to believe in smears is intricately tied to our internal concepts of “us” and “them.“ It does not matter how the ”us” is defined—it could be everyone belonging to a political party, everyone of a certain age, race, or nationality, everyone wearing blue shirts on a particular day. The moment you prompt people to see the world in terms of us and them, you instantly make their minds hospitable to slurs about people belonging to the other group. (I know it sounds like this gives ammunition to political operatives, but, believe me, they already know all this stuff—and how to use it.)

When we look back at smear campaigns of the past—some of which have led to genocidal campaigns of extermination—it can seem mystifying how large numbers of people could have believed absurd things about those from other groups. That’s because we do not viscerally feel the allegiances that divided the world of, say, Nazi Germany into “people like us” and “people like them.”

Unfortunately, we are just as blind to the consequences of our own allegiances.

Yes, it is crazy, I don’t believe for a moment it was simply to get attention, he believes it, we can only speculate on whether it is a mental illness that drives him or hard core liberalism.

Let them rant. They are scared witless, as well they should be. We here at The Blaze, however shouldn’t engage in a battle of wits with unarmed people.

Alan Grayson is not really from Florida. He is a carpetbagger from New York and DC and like others of his ilk, is not for the people of his area but for himself. He is rude and crude.

Grayson is using the typical progressive scare tactic because he is terrified of loosing his seat. Taking comments out of context is an accepted strategy used by both sides, more so by the left, but both sides do it. In this particular case it is more than just a lie, it is out and out propagandist. We need to hold their feet to the fire and expose the elitists for what they are.
