77 Year Old Congressman Grapples With Gunman During Home Invasion at Iowa Farmhouse (Update With Video)

Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-Iowa) and his grandson fought off an armed man Saturday night.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Rep. Leonard Boswell and his grandson fought off an intruder during a home invasion on the congressman’s farm in Iowa.

A statement from the congressman’s office says the home invasion happened about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. An armed man came in through the front door and attacked Boswell’s daughter, Cindy Brown. He demanded money.

The 77-year-old congressman heard his daughter’s screams, came into the entryway and attempted to disarm the intruder. As they struggled, Boswell’s 22-year-old grandson, Mitchell Brown, got a shotgun from another room. When Mitchell Brown pointed the shotgun at the intruder, the man fled into the fields around the house outside of Lamoni.

Boswell’s spokesman Grant Woodard says other than some scrapes and bruises, the family is fine.

The local sheriff, FBI and other agencies are investigating.

I bet Nancy Pelosi will want a “taxpayer paid” 24 hour security guard for each member of Congress now. What a status symbol that would be.

Hey, she has to do something . When she lost the Speaker of the House position, she lost her taxpayer paid huge jet that took her back and forth to San Francisco every weekend and on every one of her many vacations around the world with her family/friends under the guise of it being a working vacation.

Our county executive “aka, “mayor”) here in Montgomery county MD, Ike Leggett, has a full-time squad of six body guards and drivers due to alleged “death threats.” Sure. I’ve heard estimates of upwards of a million dollars a year for the guards. Hearkening back to an old Pigmeat Martin joke, and a real-life case involving Mr. Leggett, “When you’s impotent, you gotsta look impotent.”

Pathetic. If he needs full time guards, let him pay for it himself. Maybe one or two for while but not 6 full time.

Vote him out of office. And, hope that you don’t get a visit from one of his taxpayer paid SS thugs for trying to do so.

God created man, but Samuel Colt made them equal.

      2nd Amendment ROCKS!!

Without the gun in the house, the intruder would have had the upper hand.

Armed citizens are EQUAL in power. Equal power is biggest deterrent to violence.

Criminals, by and large, are cowards, preying on the weak and unsuspecting.

      Arm yourselves. Be responsible.

Secure your own life, liberty, and freedom.
God KNOWS, The United States Government does not, and police simply CANNOT.

There is a billboard just south of San Francisco, it is paid by police unions.
The picture is a young, sad, pathetic little boy.
The caption is, “who will protect me?”
The subtext is ‘stop funding cuts’

      The ENTIRE PREMISE IS FALSE!!

      Police CANNOT protect us.
      They CANNOT be everywhere.
They are there to investigate AFTER a crime occurs.
It is pure happenstance when a police officer comes upon a crime in progress, unless it is a very slow crime.

imagine that, a gun owner used a gun to thwart a home invader, good for them. Now imagine the liberal progressive world where we, meaning law abiding citizens, are not allowed to own guns. Criminals by definition don’t care about the law and will get guns in any illegal way they can. Now what would have happened with that home invasion with the criminal having a gun and the law abiding citizen not having one. I can imagine it, and I will have a gun to protect my home no matter what.

Yet a demoncrat does it and he’s praised for it. There is no such thing as a ‘stupid gun’. Guns are inanimate objects. The type of gun a homeowner uses to defend their family, themselves and their property is his or her choice. Not everyone is able to equally handle all types of guns. And it’s very hard to carry a shotgun in a purse. The Second Amendment wasn’t about hunting or even self-defense per se. The Founders felt these things were God-given, especially self-defense. The Second Amendment was expressly for the purpose of off-setting a standing army and an arbitrary government. They obviously had Bill Klinton and B. Obummer in mind.

Comprehensive study has found that law-abiding American gunowners defend themselves against criminal attack 2.5 million time a year. Most instances are just like this one, where just producing the firearm is enough to stop the attack. Every issue of the NRA’s American Rifleman have several examples (The Armed Citizen) (gleaned from America’s newspapers) of citizens defending themselves successfully with their private firearms.

Citizens should not be allowed to protect themselves. That is the job of profession law enforcement professionals. The police or the sheriff will eventually show up to fill out the paperwork.

All the robber wanted was money. Is it worth possible injury to protect a little cash. Suppose the robber was injured or killed. The congressman and his family could be held liable for any injury or convicted of manslaughter. The only persons that will come out ahead are the lawyers.

Don’t even think of shooting an intruder. Defending yourself in court will cost more than giving the intruder the cash, your shotgun and the keys to your car.

Really? The guy spends his whole life trying to take away people’s right to have a gun and when he uses one to defend his family he is now cool? He is a typical communist. “Only the upper class of politicians have the right to bear arms.”

He’s a Democrat, this shotgun business can’t be good for
his re-election. I strongly believe Dems should not bear weapons.
But I guess our laws give them the right as well. Hopefully one day
a weapon will require a “High IQ” to fire, which would surely
eliminate most if not all Liberals.

I have vever seen a beautiful woman who was a registered Demonrat. The Demonrat Political Party is a cancer on our nation slowing killing it.

To be fair, he has always been pro-2nd amendment.

“Rated A by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun rights voting record: Strongly Favors topic 10
National cross-state standard for concealed carry: Strongly Favors topic 10
Teach kids Eddie Eagle GunSafe’s lifesaving message: Favors topic 10
Ban gun registration & trigger lock law in Washington DC: Strongly Favors topic 10
NO on decreasing gun waiting period from 3 days to 1: Strongly Opposes topic 10
YES on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse: Strongly Favors topic 10″

He’s actually more a moderate Demotard.

I came very close to dropping my NRA membership because they endorsed 57 democraps in the last election. If those democraps had won their races, Pelosi would still be Speaker of the House and we gun owners and the Second Amendment would be in big trouble. The NRA better stop that crap.

It is the people of Nevada– not Harry Reid– who strongly support the 2nd amendment. Harry knows he couldn’t get elected if he was anti-gun, so he represents the people on that issue, as he should.

Ever hear Harry try to explain his position on some of the liberal nonsense he supports? It is all gobbledygook from that mushmouth nitwit. He can’t explain or defend the indefensible. But the people of Nevada have kept it real simple for Harry– support the 2nd amendment or find a new job. Even Harry can understand that.

That is how it is supposed to work. The citizens tell the representative– not the other way around. When America gets that straightened out, we will get our country straightened out..

Also, as a thought between this story and the story about the woman shooting her husband while trying to shoot a puppy, my guess is the gun used in the other story was unregistered. The story doesn’t say, but based on the other facts, it will be interesting to find out.

Eraty Bab, I well remember the events of Morton Grove, Illinois and Kenesaw, Georgia. At the same time, Morton Grove outlawed either handguns or all guns, and Kenesaw required (unless it went against the beliefs of the homeowner) the head of household to own a firearm. Morton Grove‘s crime rate went up and Kenesaw’s went down.
