Congressman Phil Roe Performs CPR, Saves Man at Airport

Congressman Phil Roe Performs CPR, Saves Man at AirportRepublican congressman and retired doctor Phil Roe put his medical skills to the test Tuesday when he helped save a man’s life at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

The Tennessee congressman was reportedly drinking a cup of coffee and speaking with Rep. Mick Mulvaney when he heard someone call out for a doctor.

That’s when Roe ran over to find the near-lifeless man lying on the floor.

“I couldn’t feel a pulse,” Roe told Reuters. “It looked like he was taking his last breaths.”

Reuters reports that Roe and another woman performed CPR and took turns doing chest compressions on the stricken man. Paramedics arrived shortly after and were able to restart the man’s heart with an external defibrillator before rushing him to a nearby hospital.

Roe must have felt the weight of the world lifted from his shoulders when police tracked the congressman — who was already back in Washington — down to share the good news that it looked like the man would make a full recovery.

Roe, who was an obstetrician for 31 years before retiring from his medical practice to go to Congress, told Reuters the incident put things into perspective for him.

“I said a little prayer for that man and his family today,” he said. “It just sort of focused me again that you don‘t get too worked up about what’s going on.”

A story about President Ronald Reagan as he was going in for surgery…He asked the surgon if he was a Republican. When the doctor stated that he is, Reagan said that he just wanted to make sure before he started cutting on him. lol

Quote: “Reuters reports that Roe and another woman performed CPR and took turns doing chest compressions on the stricken man. Paramedics arrived shortly after and were able to restart the man’s heart with an external defibrillator before rushing him to a nearby hospital.”

The quote above is from the story. I don‘t know if this is the Blaze’s writing or a direct quote from Reuters, but it contains a common mistake that drives English teachers crazy.

It’s the, “Roe and another woman….“ Roe is not a woman so the other person is not ”another woman.” It should read, “Roe and a woman, not “another woman,“ or it could read ”Roe and another person.”

But for both of those people involved in saving this person’s life, WTG!

I cannot believe the political comments on this life saving story. Poor taste knows no bounds.
So let me enter the poor taste response. This man probably asked first Are you a Republican.
I am a Liberal. Neither cared equals life saved.

If that would‘ve been a liberal democRAT he would’ve finished his coffee and then went over to ask if the man was dead yet. If he knew the man was a Repub, he would’ve stomped on his throat on the way to his plane.

I would agree, but they are also camera hounds, so he would have saved the man and then held a press conference instead of heading back to work in DC. He would have not been humble about it, but praised himself, and definitely wouldn’t have said a prayer for him.

This has nothing to do with party lines. I’m more liberal then most of you are conservative, and I’d have done the exact same thing. I mean, why else would I have volunteered for my school’s EMS squad if I just wanted to, as you may say, “rummage through his pockets?”

Good thing a Conservative was on hand, because a Liberal would have let him die, hoping to get his share of his pocket money!
