‘Conjoined’ Baby Birds Separated, ‘Grew’ Together

A pair of young robins joined at the wing have been separated after they were found flapping on the ground in a family’s backyard, seemingly fused together.

Priscilla Todd took the birds in, hoping a veterinarian would separate them and give them a chance at survival, Salt Lake City’s Deseret News reported.

A local veterinarian stepped in, but found that instead of being conjoined, a small plastic thread had lodged between the two birds soon after they hatched, and their skin and feathers grew over it.

One of the two birds underwent a partial wing amputation as part of the procedure and is in critical condition. The stronger bird will be released back into the wild.

God created all things big and small. thanks to the family who cared enough to take the birds to the Vet and thanks to the Vet who helped. Last week in my neighborhood a female Mallard Duck lost 7 of her 8 babies..People walking by started looking, a man even climbed into a storm drain. We did not find them but I am happy to live in a neighborhood where people care about small creatures, God’s creatures.

Martha — I agree with your comment .. no matter the animal — all deserve a fate better than there misery. In this story of the birds being conjoined, RATHER a plastic thread had lodged between the two birds soon after they hatched is another example of humans hurting our environment. As a RiverKeeper, I see too much garbage produced by humans trapped in our tibutaries and cause ill to the wildlife. Every creature has a purpose in aiding our Earth. I am not a fanatic .. but know 1st hand that our polution will get us in the end.

Paraphrase…”what you do to the least of these, you do unto me.” Yep, for wild birds. Its called compassion & respect for the preciousness of life. It is not the most financially productive act. The birds will not be the future salvation of our nation. Falls in line with the concept of random acts of kindness & senseless acts of beauty. It is the difference between a human & a machine. Give it a try sometime. That warm tingley feeling really is a waste of potentially productive time & energy, too. But so much better than words can describe. Its just; well, better.

Meanwhile the baby robins, grackles(commom), finches, cardinals, etc, are haveing a blast in my back yard. They are taking care of their noisey babies, sharing the feeder with bluejays, chipmunks, squirrels and the occasional “other critters”. I am reminded every day that God’s world is beautifull, and the world is still in His hands. We still need to take time and smell the roses and remember why we want this world to be joyfull. In this case, it is for the children, and all of us too. He says he sees a sparrow fall and how much greater His care of us.

Since times are so hard and usually it is our pets that get the brunt of our failing economy, this Christmas I am going to make a “care package” for that clinic. Simple things like a package of surgical gloves for the staff, package of cat and dog food, prescription bottles, and other items that I can afford.
Try it and see how good you feel for even noticing these pets who give so much and ask so little.

    You get the abortion response
You get the child abuse/neglect response
    You get the political response
    You get the economic response
You get the response that makes absolutely no sense at all
You get the why do we care about this when the world is falling apart response, and
You get the on-topic response appreciating the story.

The story isn’t meant to be life-changing or profound. It is a simple story about two birds.

I got in trouble at work the other day. Two teenage ****** wannabes came in the store at 2am, bought a pregnancy test kit and used our restroom to take the test. A few minutes later, the skank (who was not pregnant) came out towing the other by the hand and shouted “We’re gonna have a baby!”

I asked “Should we wait for the formality of Welfare kicking in…or should I just give you my wallet now?”

    They were not pleased.

With all the mean people in the world it is nice to hear a story about someone doing something from the goodness of their heart and not for the enrichment of their pocket. Would you have rather read a story about a fat kid stepping on the baby birds because they could not fly. Is it so bad for someone to do something nice?

This explains it … sounds like something that the parent birds built the nest with actually caused this to happen. Nice of the vet to take care of them. Thank you to the Vet and staff.

It’s called “human interest” (despite that the story is about two birds). There are stories of considered to me “human interest” in every major newspaper in America! Not all news must be weighty and depressing to be of interest. If you didn’t think it was newsworthy, WHY did YOU click on it, read it, and then take the time to compose a comment about it? Why didn’t you just ignore it? Could there be more of an agenda — like trolling and belittling, perhaps? I just wondered!
