Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep-Blue States

That conservatives outnumber liberals nationally is not exactly news. But this is: according to a new poll from Gallup, even traditionally liberal states are drifting rightward.

Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in Deep Blue States

Business Insider explains that “Conservatives now outnumber liberals in deep-blue bastions like Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Oregon.”

Some specifics:

Mississippi is the first state with more than 50% conservative identification, with Idaho, Alabama, Wyoming, and Utah approaching that level, and Arkansas, South Carolina, North Dakota, Louisiana, and South Dakota (the rest of the top-ten conservative states) 45% or higher. Conservatives outnumber liberals in even the most liberal-leaning states (excluding the District of Columbia): Vermont, (30.7% conservative to 30.5% liberal), Rhode Island (29.9% to 29.3%), and Massachusetts (29.9% to 28.0%).

What explains this trend? Some might point to a conservative backlash against Obama’s liberal policies. And while that certainly may be part of it, Richard Florida, an urban theorist writing in The Atlantic, has a different theory. His explanation is economic:

Conservatism, at least at the state level, appears to be growing stronger. Ironically, this trend is most pronounced in America’s least well-off, least educated, most blue collar, most economically hard-hit states. Conservatism, more and more, is the ideology of the economically left behind.  The current economic crisis only appears to have deepened conservatism‘s hold on America’s states. This trend stands in sharp contrast to the Great Depression, when America embraced FDR and the New Deal.

Interesting food for thought.

There is hope for common sense to make a return. The best way to get people to pay attention to politics more is having one side lean towards the deep end for the wrong reasons. Just like 9-11 woke up a sleeping giant, the liberal/progressives have awoke closet Conservatives and Republicans. Even some moderate Democrats can see when America is being attacked from the inside and can realize their party is getting hijacked by extreme left wing radicals and Obama and his ilk are behind it. Personally, I hope my premonition comes true where Obama won’t be in office at or near his 42nd month as President. I do not know the reason, but it is just a feeling. However, I see some actions on his part, that may be leaning towards that feeling coming true.

Coffee male . . . really? You have a premonition? Wow, just like Glenn Beck. he has premonitions pretty much every show. My favorite was at the 8/13 MLK Steps Rally when he had a premonition about a miracle happening that day. And lo and behold there it was, a goose flying over head. What are the chances?

Dawg, being that I lived nearby at a military base when those geese flew in formation over the mall on 8/13, it actually was pretty COOL! They usually fly up and down the Potomac in a North/South manner, not so much East/West. You need to find something better to tar Beck with, because you sound bitter. I hope Cofe’s “premonition” comes true, if it doesn’t this country is in serious trouble!

I think they made their move too soon. That, and the fact that Cloward, Piven, Ayers, all the 1960 refugees couldn’t foresee the internet. And THAT is a real WEAPON. They can not deny what they’ve said and done, now or in the past. Politicians find it VERY hard to say “I didn’t say that” when faced with YouTube…
    .
It’s great man! We have TRUTH on our side! And Beck is right – “WE have THEM surrounded! It’s NOT the other way around!”

LOL, Jesus’ deciples wrote it down, God gave them the words, and if you think it is a book of fiction you are dead wrong! What about the dead sea scrolls, they back up what is in the Bible son, but I guess you would call those forgeries now won’t ya. The Bible is a guidebook to living a decent, moral life, to love and help others for sure; what have you got that gives you that? NOTHING…but your man made reason of treason. Read the news today, and MORE books have been found in Jordan, just wait till they figure out the codices, it may just be the proof Christianity has been looking for to shut the progressive liberal mindset down! If not, oh well, we STILL have the Bible. God Bless America, land of the Free, home of the Brave! Stand up America, vote these progressive european charlitan elites out of office and elect God fearing Americans into office, who will not only fix the problems we face, but make America great again!

    Illinois is SOOOOOO misrepresented here.

Outside three counties, the state is vastly more red than it is blue!
Our current Governor here won a majority vote in THREE counties out of 102!
Folks around the country have a skewed view of Illinois and what things really are here.

I hate to tell y’all (I say y’all on purpose, because you know all us dumb mid-western folks talk that way) city folks this, but everyone in my little “dumb” town of 1500 can live without LA & NY. Can you “city slickers” say the same? Where I live, the grocery store is handy…but not required to feed my family. Some of you self important city (east and west coast mainly) people really get on my nerves, you think your art and culture centers make you better than us. Ever sit on the tailgate of a truck in the middle of a wheatfield and watch the sun set, no cars, no noise, just you and your higher being of chioce? Culture, education, and self enlightenment come in many different forms. You may be smarter than me on paper, but can you clean a pheasant and feed yourself? Can you track a deer? I’m not saying my way of life is for everyone, I’m just saying stop looking down your nose at us. I choose to live where I live, not because I couldn’t cut it where you live…I just like the view better out here.

Agreed on the fishing and cow milking, lol, I left out a lot of things ha ha…I kind of snapped a bit. Just seems to me a small goup of people in a few big cities seem to be making the policies for all the rest of us in “fly over country.” It amazes me…we have blacks (no they aren’t african americans), hispanics, indians (the native kind)…etc…none of which feel that the country owes them anything out here. They just get up and go to work like everybody else. Most of us do own a pickup truck, not cause we want to kill the planet, but it’s tough getting down wet dirt road in a Prius, and they aren’t much for pulling a horse trailer either. We all have satellite TV, satellite radio, cell phones, and even (*gasp) internet, thankyou Al Gore. A lot uf us can even read! We drill for oil, ranch, farm, make airplanes…etc..work mostly. We depend on eachother, our neighbors, and the Sheriff once in a while…the government isn’t good for too much out here, except for repaving roads we didn’t really need in the first place. A lot of us don’t make tons of money, most of us don’t care, most of us have what we need. I’m just getting sick of the politicians speaking on “my behalf” and using “my concerns” to help them get elected. I’ve never seen a politician out where I live…and I’m perfectly fine with that. I’ll vote for the politician that says, “I’m not going to do anything for you, except defend the borders of the country.” If that guys shows up, he will have my vote.

It’s not perfect here, and my statements aren’t intended to degrade the cities. I’ve lived in other places, there are many things I miss about the city (sushie for one, lol). My issue only lies in the inherent snobbery that I feel exists towards people who live in the middle. I mean study that map…basically it’s the extreme east and west coast where all these liberals live, and good for them. They can do whatever they please in San Fransisco, more power to them! Just don’t, one; try to bring it to my doorstep, and two; expect me to pay for it when your sunshine and lollipop ideas don’t work out for your city, county, state.

I am from a small town in Oregon and now live in Los Angeles. It sucks to say the least. What most of these people here (in L.A.) will never understand is simple.

The most amazing things I have ever seen, I have never seen in a big city.

I was fishing once at one of my favorite lakes (lived in Washington at the time) and had just stuck a worm on a hook, tossed it out, sat in my chair, cracked a beer, and started relaxing. Not more than 10 minutes had passed and I see a Bald Eagle come down, skim the water, and pull out a trout. I reeled it back in, tossed the worm and headed out right after.

I came back to our cabin and the wife said “what are you doing here, you just left”?

Well hun, my day is complete…

Didja ever notice how much interest politicians show us BEFORE the election takes place? It always starts out there in Iowa. Oh well, I can’t change that, guess I’ll fire up the grill, the weather’s nice and I have some venison my neighbor gave us (it’s NOT redistribution of wealth, just being neighborly). The word Liberal has been so poisioned, as to be useless in reclaimation. There are a scant few of us who actually understand the full histories of the Republican and Democrat party, and how both sucessfully redefined terms to suit their mutual progressive agendas. Conservatives beware, because the RINOS are corrupting that term by saying one thing, yet doing another – and it looks stinkingly similair to the Progressive Liberals on financial matters (neither are willing to cut where cuts need to be made).

In the meantime, Libertarian will have to do. We know both major parties are rank liars and will stoop to any depth to keep the electorate ignorant and bickering – while they retain power. The current budget dilemma is proving daily that RINOS and Socialists are holding hands and labelling the Tea Party freshmen as mutual “problems”.

Republicans take warning, it was the Libertarians who brought your increase and created the Tea Party. We’ll always gravitate to the party who not only promises “Constitutionally Limited Government”, but also delivers.

The only two times I have actually seen true conservatives in power, was Reagan who was sideswiped by a big spending Congress and the 1994 Newt Gingrich Congress.

Bush was far from a conservative, he fooled many of us thinking he was but you can’t be a conservative and create a huge new entitlement program.

      @bobodu

Here are some facts for you. Please research before spewing liberal talking points with no facts to back it up.

The last seven years that the Democrats have controlled both houses of Congress are 1992 to 1995, and 2008 to 2010. The last seven years that the Republicans have controlled both houses are 1999 to 2001, and 2004 to 2007. …

During the most recent seven years that the Democrats have controlled Congress, their deficits have averaged $619 billion a year, or 5.3% of the gross domestic product (GDP). During the most recent seven years that the Republicans have controlled Congress, their deficits have averaged $93 billion a year, or 0.6% of GDP. Over their entire seven-year spans, the Democrats’ deficit spending has totaled $4.3 trillion, the Republicans’ $651 billion.
Over the 14 years in question, the four highest deficits as a percentage of GDP have all occurred when the Democrats have controlled Congress. The five lowest have all occurred when the Republicans have controlled Congress. …

hey – it is looking UP – since Florida rid itself of the RINO Governor – who ran for the US Senate – turned Independent – because he knew he would flat out lose to Republican Marco Rubio.

The crazy Governor = RINO/Independent tried to split the vote – to have the Democrat candidate win the election for the US Senate from Florida – that did not work —

NOT even with obama’s former WHITE HOUSE Communications Director – ANITA DUNN – the avowed COMMUNIST – running his campaign.

Nice piece of info – when obama’s Anita Dunn resurfaces as an “advisor” for someone’s political campaign – after she was caught on videotape – representing the White House – at a high school graduation – as LIZARD WOMAN – licking her lips and repeatedly sticking out her tongue, hyper-ventilating – while professing her love for the philosophies of CHAIRMAN MAO of China – failing to acknowledge to these young kids – that Chairman Mao was the deranged COMMUNIST Leader who killed more people – than HITLER – in genocidal mass murders.

Therefore, things are LOOKING UP in FLORIDA =

US Senator Marco Rubio – and – US Congressman Lt. Col. Allen West!!!!!!!

      BE PROUD, FLORIDA!!!! GOOD JOB!!!!

I am a little north of Detroit and things are changing here. There are still a few of Satan’s pawns left in the state government and of course you know about the ones that have defaced the US congress. Our last Gov. is now in Cali teaching with her husband and she shut down several refineries as well here. She didn’t care she was born Canadian and bent over backwards for the muslim in chief and he jilted her. Thought she was going to be on his staff. There is a great deal of carnage here but we shall overcome.
I have worked with several ministries here and things are going to change. Part of the change here is that the libs, while still worshiping the empty suit, have to leave because he took their jobs and sent them overseas, while they still blame Walmart.
I can’t believe that I escaped the kool-aid stands that were set up in my path here.

In venting my dislike of liberal vs conservative. (it should be progressive or socialist democrat or liberal socialist if any label is used.) Read the following .

Hayek stated in the Forward to the Road to Serfdom (1944) that
“I use throughout the term ‘liberal’ in the original, nineteenth-century sense in which it is still current in Britain. In current American usage it often means very nearly the opposite of this. It has been part of the camouflage of leftish movements in this country, helped by muddleheadedness of many who really believe in liberty, that ‘liberal’ has come to mean the advocacy of almost every kind of government control.

“I am still puzzled why those in the United States who truly believe in liberty should not only have allowed the left to appropriate this almost indispensable term but should even have assisted by beginning to use it themselves as a term of opprobrium. This seems to be particularly regrettable because of the consequent tendency of many true liberals to describe themselves as conservatives.”

Liberalism, which is stronger in richer, better-educated, more-diverse, and, especially, more prosperous places,

Conservatism, at least at the state level, appears to be growing stronger. Ironically, this trend is most pronounced in America’s least well-off, least educated, most blue collar, most economically hard-hit states

Again if you look at the same poll, overall there is still more support for the Democrates vs. the GOP and a slight edge in Obama’s favorability. The question to ask is, what does Conservatism mean? The fact the the ignorant masses are favoring “conservatism” seems to mean that its the last gasp of the bible belt to be relavent. Also, the fact that the rise in conservatism doesn’t equal increases in GOP support is clear evidence that Walker and the rest of the astro-turf back Governor’s do not have the mandate that believe they have.

Encinom – if you believe polls are a determination of your party’s future, you might want to look at polls involving actual registered voters, since they will be the ones deciding the 2012 races. When they poll actual registered voters on Obama’s approval ratings, the picture is quite different:
      http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/52208.html

42% approval rating vs. 48% disapproval. Unregistered voters tend to gravitate to the left, and many won’t bother registering before 2012.

While you can dismiss the fact that conservatism may be on the rise, what you should be more worried about is dissatisfaction with the Dems. 2012 may very well mirror the 2010 mid-terms, or better for those uneducated, poor, bible-thumping, illiterate conservatives. At least they know how to register and vote.

President Obama currently has about $400 million dollars on hand to spend on TV commercials…he will likely raise and spend about 1 to 2 billion dollars to get re-elected: WIN AT ALL EXPENSE!

If the republican contender raises a tenth of what Obama has at his disposal, I will be shocked.

To use a baseball analogy: President Obama will be a tough out as the historical evidence shows.

You have to wonder if people like Encinom are really missing the point or are they intentionally trying to misdirect.

The fact that the trend towards Conservative doesn’t directly translate into supporting Republicans, is because we are NOT party hacks. It is moderate, Progressive Republicans, like McCain and Bush that have caused almost as much trouble for this country as radical Progressive Democrats.

It only shows that you will ONLY get our support if you stand on principle, meaning that people like Scott Walker have MORE support than the generic Republican support would be.

We want… we DEMAND people that do what they say, like Walker and Christie and we will crush the Republican party into dust and go with a third party, if Republicans can’t stand up for what is right.

Democrats on the other hand, appear to support Democrats regardless. Just look at the opposite positions several have taken in respect to Bush going to war, versus Obama.

I like to think the term LIBERAL is being used more these days to describe a party that liberally applies taxes, liberally practices graft and corruption to reward the faithful and liberally dispenses welfare. A liberal is a person that liberally uses lies and slander to achieve their goals. I have tried seeing things as would a liberal but I cannot get my head that far up my a-s!

Darn you common sense and logic! How did this happen. Communist we must stop teaching mathematics! 1+1=1 Brazilian….that will get those conservatives back our way. I think that makes sense.

If none of the above made any sense, then you’ve got too much common sense and you would suck at being a communist!

That’s because they have seen what liberalism does in only two years, and they don’t like what they see. I think they see the Tea Party not bending with the waves, and that gives them hope, despite what Boehner does to ruin it.
