Controversial Film on Illegal Immigration Debuts and We Talk With the Movie’s Director

Next week in Tampa, the documentary “They Come To America” will be screened on the final day of the Republican National Convention. Despite the afternoon screening time on the last day of the GOP’s big week, director Dennis Michael Lynch expects the 1,200-seat theater to be filled to capacity. And after seeing the film and speaking with the director at length, it’s easy to see why.
Lynch did not plan to make this movie. He was working on a very different documentary when he came upon Tom Wedell, an unemployed roofer on Long Island who was protesting the growing presence of illegal aliens in Suffolk County, NY. Each morning, dozens of illegals (mostly men), he said, would gather outside of a 7-11 store in the town of Southampton and offer themselves as day laborers. Mr. Wedell would show up across the street with an American flag and a sign reading “Deport Illegals.”

Lynch tells the story of driving by the protesting Wedell as he was hearing Neil Diamond on his car radio singing, “They’re Coming To America.” The filmmaker stopped his car, took out his camera and started talking with and filming the protester. Within minutes, he knew he was on to something.
“They Come To America” bounces back and forth between the concerned Americans and the illegal workers (and their supporters). Not surprisingly, many of the Americans interviewed believe the millions of undocumented workers are costing our country its future. On the other side of the argument are the workers and those who are helping them. And they think very differently.
Some of the statements from the illegals that Mr. Lynch interviewed will likely spark an angry reaction from many. This clip shows some of the people who were taking “English as a second language” classes on Long Island, and one gentleman does not sugar-coat his lack of respect for America. He is only here to make money and then go back home. When speaking to Mr. Lynch about this scene, and specifically one man’s unvarnished disdain for America, the director stated:
“When he said that… I changed to Dennis The American from Dennis the filmmaker.”

Lynch said he tried to look at this story from as many angles as possible:
- He actually hired a couple of workers and recorded some revealing comments and very personal moments from one young man.
- He visited Miami and interviewed locals, transplants and native Floridians about the influx of Spanish-speaking people that has overwhelmed the region.
- A trip to the southern border of the U.S. almost gave Lynch a heart attack as he and an assistant were forced to flee from a Mexican cartel that actually fired bullets at them and chased them along the border.
Ranchers who live along the U.S.-Mexican border were particularly graphic in their descriptions of the problems they are forced to deal with because the government will not act to stop the flow of illegals.
Lynch says he was chilled to the bone when one of the ranchers clarified the difference between the problems caused by immigration in the Northeast and the ones they face on the border:
“You’ve got people that want to cut your lawn. We’ve got people who want to cut your throat.”
Despite a lack of access to theaters via film festivals, “They Come To America” has been making inroads via DVD sales and smaller screenings at Tea Party meetings. Lynch told TheBlaze he intends to host screenings with question and answer sessions for Tea Party members in all 50 states.
A relative newcomer to the world of filmmaking, Dennis Michael Lynch has made a powerful movie that will inspire emotional reactions from both sides of the immigration argument. “They Come To America” is well-shot, professionally produced and moves at a solid pace before building to a strong conclusion. And yet Lynch has had a tough time getting his film screened at many of the festivals happening around the country. Nearly thirty film festivals have rejected his work. Why? Could it be due to the subject matter?

My family is white. I went to the Aquarium restaurant in Downtown Houston to celebrate my mothers B-Day. We were in the minority. That place is overrun as well. The pot has melted and we are quickly becoming the minority.

When a roofer made $15/hour in 1985, and a roofer makes $15/hour in 2012, you know there is a problem. And the problem is that illegals will work for substandard wages as they pile themselves 3 deep in a house to share costs, sending money back to Mexico. Meanwhile, as costs for everything have gone up, the homebuilders raked in huge profits.
And the unions sold out the American worker to incorporate the hispanic illegals. That isn’t representing americans…it is worse than outsourcing. It is, as Obama states, insourcing.
Time for conservatives to create a union that does it’s job. Stops sending money to the middle east for Occupy movements and such.

In fact this notion has been robbed from us by MSM and their collegues in the US government. So therefore your rights are no better or greater than anyone elses. We pay for him (the illegal) today and his son pays for our sons tomorrow. Wrong answer slim shady! We should not have to pay for you at all because you do not belong here as you stole your way into this country and demand to be subsidized. Your sons like most of 48% of Americans right now will not pay anything in taxes towards the US government and this number will only climb as the top earners are asked to pony up more for your sons of tomorrow. Americans built a great an prosperous country, we also created laws of fairness and equity taking into account almost every concievable situation, but they never counted on a permanent under class who earns but pays nothing into the system except to say some local taxes for purchases of goods and services. In fact most do not pay into SS but will get a check so how is that for fairness.

Illlegal immigration affects our economy, our health care, our health care, our education systems, our national security, and also our local criminality. Americans need to be more informed about the seriousness of this issue rather than concerning themselves with who is dancing with what star or what the latest “real housewife” is selling.

Ship them all home” doesn’t work and ignores the fact that many of the illegals provide wanted labor that, in spite of high unemployment, those born here don’t tend to do. The “let them all in” crowd refuses to deal with illegals who are committing crimes here or come here just to sponge off of government entitlements.
Entitlement reform is as big a part of our immigration problem as boarder security.
We need a compromise that includes both securing the boarder and recognizing that many of the illegals here are illegal because we have not dealt with this problem for 30 years now. We chose to turn a blind eye to the changing needs of our immigration system instead of making painful choices about it then. Many of the illegals are migrant farm workers. How many migrant farm worker visas do we allow each year?
Neither side seems to respect the legitimate grievances of the other. As long as that holds, there will be no reform. Bush learned that the hard way.

We are invaded daily by a culture that for the most part comes from violent roots. They then see our unassuming Americans going casually about their business and often very trustworthy. They take advantage of this and rob, rape and murder almost it seems for sport. Not all are like this! Many are here from long ago and have worked to build a life for themselves, as long as they contribute towards the system and are not asking the government to subsidize them, then its not a problem for me because the alternative of trying send them back isn’t going to happen either. Should not have allowed so many into the US illegally in the first place? Yes of course, but the damage is done, stricter laws and greater border controls need to be in place to stem the tide for the future. If we dont get a handle on it, this country will not be fit to live in for anyones kids even theirs.

The reality is we could deport them all if we had the political will to do so. While the cost would be high, it would be less then allowing them to stay. A better alternative is attrition thru enforcement. If we made it impossible for them to stay, they would have to leave. After all they came here on their own dime, they can go home the same way.
All it would take is enforcing the laws already on the books. No new laws are really needed.

I believe that we are at that threshold today. That is the problem with some countries in Europe. Take Germany. Soon there will no longer be a Germany as we know it. All the old Germans haven’t reproduced enough to perpetuate their race or country. Germany is now occupied by mostly immigrants from Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi – in other words the Muslims. It is the Muslim’s healthy birthrate that keeps Germany populated and afloat. The same goes with the US. A recent report states that families here are not reproducing enough and that the birthrate has gone down dramatically. The government knows that Latinos, Mexicans, Nicaraguans, South Americans, Muslims reproduce at a healthy rate. So they let them in freely so that we remain populated at a healthy rate guaranteeing our survival. Unfortunately, most White Americans and Black Americans abort their babies. It is this senseless killing that has decimated our American population. That is why we need the Latinos, Muslims, South Americans and Mexicans here so they can replenish the aborted American babies and keep the population at healthy levels. We first saw this issue during the Reagan administration. A failed attempt to restructure social security lead to the first and only amnesty for illegals in ‘86. That is total globalist propaganda. No country can sustain unlimited/continual growth. That is the reality that no one really wants to talk about. The US like every other country can only support so many people at certain qualities of life. The more people you add to a closed system, the lower the quality of life is for everyone. For every new person added to this country it takes 25 acres of undeveloped land to be developed. That is regardless of legality or native born. Some 87% of all population growth in this country is due to immigrants and their children. In California it is almost a 100%. Population increases take more water, food, infrastructure, energy, educational and social resources. As these resources decline, the cost goes up.
Before immigration was changed by the 1965 immigration act, levels of immigration to this country was less then 300,000/year. Today it would be a good thing to have a decrease in population. This replacement nonsense comes from corporate America who wants an ever enlarging consumer base. Regardless of the consequences, corporate American doesn’t believe in sustainability.
Just think of the quality of life differences between the 1950s and today. Had our population growth not went from slight growth it was experiencing in the 60s to the explosion that happened after the 1965, we would not be facing near the problems we do today

Then, a smaller immigration force could focus on the real criminals coming across. We wouldn’t have to worry about free loaders. At least, we should start there and then adjust appropriately. Most illegals come here because they can work, not pay taxes, get free health care, get free education, welfare, unemployment, food stamps, etc. All on the taxpayer’s doll. There are some that have never availed themselves on these free entitlements, but they are a minority. Get rid of the perks, and you will make a huge dent in illegal immigration. If they have to live here on their own merit, like our forefathers intended, not many will come over (unless they have a work ethic and a will to survive at any cost).

The specials that Glenn Beck has done with the violence along the border was a wake-up call to me that things are much worse down there than people let on. Many of them look at the United States as occupiers – Eva Longoria’s comments about America stealing the southwest from Mexico is absolutely absurd. We fought for it, won it through victory, yet paid them anyway for the land.
I definitely think it’s time to pull out of Afghanistan and place troops along our border. And if illegals stealing our jobs, committing crimes, getting free healthcare, etc isn’t bad enough, they have allowed tons of Hezbollah terrorists to slip into our country. If anyone has seen “Act of Valor” then remember the terrorist that strapped ball bearings and explosives to a bunch of Filipinos to suicide bomb random cities everywhere in the United States? I’m quite sure something like that could easily happen.

It is much easier to have a country forgo it’s sovereignty if you allow enough people to immigrate and change the demographics. If a large enough increase comes about of people who have little allegiance to that country, they can vote to to eliminate sovereignty in favor of a more global governmental body. Open borders is another way to negate a country’s sovereignty. By encouraging people to move freely across a border with little or no restrictions, the border then becomes only a word and not something involving territory.

In fact we in Canada respect it and honor our American friends to the south. If you notice to the US northern border. There are little to no problems, there aren’t thousands of illegal Maple Syrup Workers flooding into Vermont or New York State. I’m sure there are occasional difficulties.
But what‘s with US liberals who can’t understand the word “ illegal” from this discussion? Yes, our original form of placement to the North American continent was called immigration, but it was done legally under the watchful eye of Immigration Border controls. You know it isn’t 1776 with open borders and a vast wilderness to fill.
Immigration is a controlled entry of people. It’s also to protect within people who are legitimate members of the country. Uncontrolled entry serves no one but the person cheating the system.
So, why are Hispanics of the south entitled to cheat the system?

They REPEATED the mantra that “they’re [Mexicans] only here to make a better life for themselves“ and the biggy ”they‘re only doing jobs that we won’t do” whenever I told them that they’d be replaced because the illegals worked for less, and unions were pricing themselves out of existence. The carpenter eventually headed out of state, but could not outrun his inevitable replacement; the last I heard the drywaller was looking for work.
I’m no genius; it was just simple common sense written in large letters in plain view for ANYONE willing to open their eyes to see. Now in my early 60′s, I’ve had my “I told you so” moment, and wish it never came to pass. I just got back from a trip to the North Atlantic states, and remember commenting to my wife “Jimney Crikets – is their no getting away from illegal Mexicans!!!”

I know what you mean, even illegals have invaded my quaint little township outside Cleveland where I grew up once upon a time. White America is finished! Our children will be the under class soon enough! Don’t believe me? I am seeing it in real time right here in Southern Cali in places like Riverside and San Bernardino were very White communities and many have since left, those who were not able to leave are now the minorities in neighborhoods their grandparents and parents built up. They seem also to be very demoralized and I see many begging on the streets. Its very sad!
White flight is real and alive. My small community here was only around 19k when I first moved here from a large metro area and I could not believe how many White Americans lived here as compared to whence I came up from. Now 18 years later we are at 105k and the community is completely multiculture. My theory is this! White Americans created a great community to raise their kids in and many followed that being other Whites. Once the schools were established as the top ten and more development came, more and more folks saw what a great place it was to raise their families as well. But its started with White Americans not Asians, not Mexicans, not Muslims but Whites and this is the same thing of how this country started on the whole. Its how it happened folks, just pointing out what I see

These women are paid by the drug cartels to get pregnant, live in a cardboard box just the other side of the bridge from America and waddle across when she goes into labor so they have a future drug mule to go back and forth easily as an American citizen.

They are a business, albeit am illegal and insane one, but if they scare their customer base business ends. Impossibly simple logic, despite the violence they cause in Mexico, they do all their business here.

This topic seems to get the racists and white supremacists outmim bundles. Mexicans purchase items here, therefore they pay taxes. This is impossible to avoid. You people should be disgusted with yourselves. “Mexicans are a tribal race, making them socialist“ and ”were keeping white communities alive”. I know damn well many here are not racist, but you freaks are showing your true colors.
Most of the lies here about Mexican people are despicable, we could use more border enforcement but you slanderers and racists are not helping your own cause. Some of the things I’ve heard here rival actual white supremacy websites.
I have lived in Mexico and was born here in the US and both countries have many similarities in great, hardworking people. Restoring love, indeed. Absolutely foul, I hope Glenn Beck would be ashamed of you.

But they do not contribute enough to support the social and educational services they utilize. Also most never pay any income tax and if they file they do so to collect the child tax/earned income money. Most are either working for cash or using a fraudulent/stolen SS number.

They are told that they are victims of an unjust society, not that they are or are children of people who came here to steal from this country every dime they could until they got caught, if ever. Not to mention that they see it as reparations for stealing the land that we won in a war, and then paid them for it anyway! There are plenty of mexicans who live across the border who come over and rent a PO box file for all kinds of welfare and have it delivered to their American address, collect it and go back to mexico.

You cannot help people who refuse to help themselves and you certainly cannot help the third world by allowing them to all migrate here. The US is experiencing lots of problems many of which are caused by or contributed too by uncontrolled population growth. Immigration is the leading cause of US population growth. At current rates we will top 400 million in 35 years. If you think things are bad now, they are just going to get worse if we continue along the same path.
