Painting of Obama Trampling Constitution Resurfaces, Artist‘s New Work Tells ’Enslaved‘ Americans to ’Wake Up!’

Some may already be familiar with the image featured above. For those who aren’t, it is painting titled “The Forgotten Man” which features President Obama trampling on the Constitution while an astonished James Madison pleads with him to stop. To the side, a man sits on a park bench in the throes of depression while 43 presidents look on. The painting, which uses discarded dollar bills and scraps of paper with individual constitutional amendments scrawled onto them.
The Blaze first reported on artist Jon McNaughton’s controversial rendition back in 2010 when the artwork was released. Now, however, McNauughton’s Forgotten Man has resurfaced and is making its rounds across the internet again after appearing on Rachel Maddow’s blog on Thursday.
In a video that accompanied The Forgotten Man’s release, the politically charged McNaughton revealed, “For a long time I didn’t know if I wanted to paint this picture, because I worried it might be too controversial.”
He explained that the man on the park bench “represents every man, woman, and child who is an American“ and who ”hopes to find the American dream of happiness and prosperity.” The artist added, “But now because of unconstitutional acts imposed on the American people by our government we stand on the precipice of disasters.”
The artists’ work can be found at McNaughton Fine Art (though the site appeared to be down, at least temporarily on Friday evening) and on his Facebook Page. A search of McNaughton’s postings on Facebook reveal a number of paintings with strong political and religious themes including another provocative work released in October 2011 titled “Wake Up America.” The image features Obama smiling on the stump while shackled Americans gather around him. From the artist’s YouTube page:

Every man, woman and child in America is enslaved to the national debt. As an artist, I have painted my vision of the dire circumstances that surround us. Now, more than ever, each American must make a choice: we must unlock the shackles that enslave us, or will we lose our freedom. It is my hope and prayer that America will “wake up” before it is too late.

With the Nevada Caucuses around the corner, CBS Las Vegas caught up with McNaughton to talk about his work. Since the painting’s release, “It sold thousands,” McNaughton told the network.
“I sold many different sizes and editions, and now that we are in an election year I expect to sell more.”

Much of McNaughton’s work is political in nature. Previously, he released “One Nation Under God,” a painting depicting Jesus holding the Constitution and judging several archetypes including a liberal journalist, a smug college professor, and a man McNaughton calls “Mr. Hollywood.”
Originally from Arizona, McNaugton currently lives in Utah and received a full scholarship to Brigham Young University.
“I hope my work will create conversation and reach people on a deeper level,” he states on his website. “I like to use metaphor and multiple levels of meaning to reach my viewer. If it makes them think and feel, then it is successful.”
McNaughton also told CBSLV: “I’m not trying to create an art style. I want to communicate my ideas. Isn’t that the purpose of art?”

You painted the truth, so how can it be racist? I feel sure Rachel Madcow found a way to make it seem racist, and to make Obama look like the victim.

Oh. My. Gosh. What you pointed out was amazing. The twin towers’ ruins in the background of the soldier painting = beautiful. Did you recognize the symbolism of the Roman soldier right up front? That was beautiful.
Did you also see Fredrick Douglass in the background of the Constitution painting? As well as other key slaves next to him? Teddy Roosevelt is also to the far right of that painting, which is also the far left on Jesus’ hand.
I love what a spiritual impression these paintings left. I’m going to invest in the Constitution and soldier one. They are amazing.

Sadly there are only a few people who realize that it doesn’t matter how many wars you are in, or how many government programs you do or don’t have…..if you have a weak currency, everything else is threatened and can be destroyed by it.
It‘s why I’ve always been more independent than anything, I didn’t want to be “in the tank” for either side, or think that they could guarantee my vote just by them “being democrat or republican.”
I get tired of this “lesser of two evils” both sides keep playing against each other and I hate how things have become so partisan in every walk of life where you either agree with one side, or both sides will run you over.
Republicans and Democrats cant’ agree on much, but they both agree there shouldn’t be a 3rd party.

He is a very soft spoken individual and he has a love for God and country. You will find copies of the Constitution, which he gives out for free, on his counter as well as copies of The Five Thousand Year Leap which he charges for — I think at cost if I’m not mistaken.
His heart and soul have gone into the paintings and we are blessed to have them. It is very evident that God has given him a talent, and has directed him, to send a message to all men regarding this nation.
God is speaking to each and every one of us via Mr. McNaughton’s paintings. The artist is the messenger. We had better be listening!
Oh, by the way, it takes courage to do what is right and Mr. McNaughton’s paintings tell it like it is. Mr. McNaughton has more to come.
By the way, did everyone notice the rooster in the corner of one of the paintings? Remember who denied Christ and when it happened?
Who among us is denying Christ by not standing for what Christ gave us in the Constitution which He brought about through wise men and much bloodshed for all mankind?
God lives and Jesus is the Christ. Deny Him no longer and be free. Fight for what you know to be true and correct.

If you look at his previous work, you will have an indication about who he is and what he believes. In fact, I actually have that exact same painting (The Forgotten Man) hanging on the wall in my den going on two years now.
You have liberal artist, atheist artist, progressive artist and trendy artist all attacking the flag, our morals, values and our belief in almighty God, either through paintings or exhibits on a regular basis and you get bent out of shape over a true depiction of the current president on canvas?
