Convicted Child Molester Beheaded by Fellow Inmates in Brazilian Prison Riot

SAO PAULO (AP) – A man convicted with imprisoning his daughter and fathering seven children with her was one of the six inmates killed earlier this week in a prison riot in northeastern Brazil, authorities said Wednesday.

Maranhao state public safety spokeswoman Maud Zaiban said that Jose Agostinho Pereira was decapitated by fellow inmates who broke into his cell in the city of Pinheiro.

In June, Pereira was charged with imprisoning his daughter for 12 years in his home and fathering her seven children. Prosecutors have said he also abused two of the children he had with his daughter. He was convicted in December and sentenced to 30 years in prison on sex abuse charges and of depriving his daughter of her freedom through “private incarceration”

Zaiban said by telephone the rebellion began after guards thwarted an escape attempt by several prisoners. She did not know the number of inmates who tried to flee.

“They then raided the cell where inmates charged with rape and pedophilia were being held and killed six of them, four of whom were decapitated,” Zaiban said. The other two, she added, were stabbed to death with makeshift knives.

She said the aborted escape attempt was motivated by the overcrowded conditions: close to 100 inmates were packed into facilities built to hold 30. Overcrowding is common in Brazilian prisons.

The rebellion began Monday and ended Tuesday.

Zaiban said the inmates agreed to return to their cells after authorities said they would consider some of their demands and transfer 14 prisoners to jails nearer to their homes.

The demands included two pounds(one kilogram) of marijuana, a television set, fans to cool the cells and the right to receive home cooked meals, she said.

Asked which demands might be met, Zaiban said, “Marijuana won’t be one of them.”

    Code of honor among blacks in prison: ???? (crickets chirping)

    Sorry, but this is the truth. I have a daughter who is a TDC guard, at a very large prison that houses a lot of sex offenders.

    It is infuriating our prison system has a policy of segregating pedophiles to protect them. They should be put in gen pop and let them be preyed upon like they prey on children. I would bet you everything I own it would make a pedophile think two or three times before acting on his desires. At the very least it would make sure they never touched a child again and save the taxpayers a lot of cash. And I know a lot of liberals will point at posts like this and say I we are terrible and hardhearted, unchristian, etc. but where are these liberals when pedophiles are released and molest another child which they ALWAYS EVENTUALY do? Even the hardened prisoners in the criminal justice system understand it, why are liberals so clueless?

    Sad to say but U.S. prisons protect child molesters. They all have special units to hide them cuz.
    They know what will happen to them hell if i had the chance to do it and get away with it i would.

    This does happen in the U.S. from time to time if you molest a child and get sent to a regular medium security prison don’t expect to last long even criminals have a code.

    What happens when those who behead rapists and pedophiles finish their terms and are released into society with the rest of us? If we kept predators locked up for sex crimes against others, without any releases at all, society wouldn’t feel so vulnerable and beheadings in prison might not happen. A large amount of blame must go to lenient judges, etc. who turn predators back upon an unsuspecting public.

    I’m all for public square hanging of convicted rapists, killers, and molesters. Its a shame his daughter didn’t get to watch. Maybe the youth of today should see firsthand what happens to those that commit these heinous acts and the consequences of their actions. (school field-trips sound good)

    Might actually reduce gang membership and other evil intentions.

    And before you think I support sharia law, think again. I Don’t.

      Your right, vengence is the Lords. Man did not distribute adequate justice so God did. He doesn’t act with lightening bolts from the sky normally, He uses whatever or whoever is at hand! Read your scriptures and you will see He used the hated Babylonians etc. to punish His beloved descendants of Abraham among other things.

    Sure while your at it lets just round them up and put them in camps….
    We can even make it easy by making them wear an armband with a symbol on it….
    Like a pink triangle or something.

    Then we can tell them some catchy slogan like “Work will set you free.”
    and we can authorize science to conduct whatever experiments they want on them.
    oh and finally when they are half dead and starving we can burn them in ovens…

    wait all thats been done before hasn’t it?

      I always wonder why someone would defend pedophiles, rapists, etc. Could it be that they are involved in these activities themselves? Who knows? I do know that wouldn’t want my children or wife to be alone with someone that thinks that this activity is OK… ya know… like an alternate lifestyle.

      Yes this guy was scum to the world we all agree. But don’t you think you are a bit out of line suggesting the poster is involved in that sort of activity and is defending the guy(which he wasn’t). I found that statement to be outrageous and unwarranted. The mob mentality is a bit disturbing.

    Yes!!!! very nice……sad to say, but the story gives me a tingly feeling up my leg…..can we send all the pedophiles, barney franks (male prostitution ring out of his basement) in this world to this cell block??
    Media will try and spin the story towards the poor child rapist who was an innocent victim. I’m glad it happened and wish it would happen in our prisons. In my opinion, it is not a cureable disease and only saves future children from this animal.

    This story, like many other recent stories, creeps me the frick out. There is just something inherently evil about beheadings- the feel is that all the crazies are howling at the moon.

    Anyways- people that abuse kids are pretty much the bottom of the scum chain. It takes some real nastiness to hurt someone that can’t defend themselves- the fact that it’s his own kid/grandkids makes it so much worse.

    He put himself in that situation.

    Looks like simple cases of suicide to me… keep moving, nothing going on here…!

    [Actually, a bit of "jailhouse justice" like this would be welcome right here in the US...! Just think of how much money it saved...! Come to think of it, I'd give them the marijuana after hearing of their actions...!]

    I am not saddened by this report, at all. CHIMOs deserve whatever they get behind the walls. If Justice was met in the courtrooms, there would be gallows reserved for that special group of predators.

      I‘m an American that has lived in Brazil for almost 37 years and know that Brazil’s criminal code is very lenient towards the criminals. But hardened thugs, murderers and armed robbers hate pedophiles and have their own way of dispensing their idea of justice. The “prison riot” was probably just a smoke screen or distraction that was used to get access to the cell where the pedophiles were kept.
      José Agostino Pereira was sentenced to 30 years but would probably spend only 5 or 6 years behind bars then would be released into society to continue his sexual perversions. Early release from prison is a Brazilian reality that most Brazilians wish government officials would do more to prevent. Decapitation is quite common in Brazil as a way to express deep loathing for certain individuals. Mr. Preira won’t be sexually molesting any more children and I assure you that those who did the decapitation will never be caught, much less charged with the crime.
