‘Cool’: Did CNN Take Donald Trump Out of Context on Occupy Wall St.?

Donald Trump May Not Think Occupy Wall Street Is CoolDonald Trump has no shortage of opinions on practically every issue imaginable.

From domestic debacles to international affairs — even happenings in celebrity and entertainment news — the well-known business mogul is always ready and willing to let people know his perspective on the issues of the day.

So, naturally, when he appeared on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” on Thursday, Trump weighed in on the issue that everyone’s talking about — the Occupy Wall Street movement. Numerous outlets are reporting that, in speaking about the protests, Trump said, “I sort of think it’s cool. There’s something I like about it.”

One headline reads, “Trump: Occupy Wall Street Is ‘Sort of Cool’ and ‘There’s Something I Like About it.’” Even CNN (yes, the network that actually aired the interview), teases the clip with this:

…Trump also reveals his surprising take on the Occupy Wall Street movement. “I sort of think it’s cool,” he says. “There’s something I like about it.”

But a transcript from the show provides a different reality about his comments. While he called some of the protesters “very serious people” and said that the movement is “interesting,“ Trump may not have been speaking about the protests when he made the ”cool“ and ”something I like about it” comments. Here’s a portion of the show’s transcript:

TRUMP: Somebody called me before from CNN, actually, and they want me to do — I have a big building right there, 40 Wall Street. It’s actually the tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and unfortunately because it used to be the World Trade Center, but it’s now the tallest building in downtown, and it was very interesting because they want me to do an interview with representatives from the group “Occupy Wall Street.”

MORGAN: And how do you feel about that?

TRUMP: I sort of think it’s cool. I mean there’s something I like about it. Like I said, might do it.

It seems Trump was responding to the prospects of doing an interview down at Wall Street — not about the movement. Does that mean even CNN got it wrong? It would seem so.

That said, he does seem to see something redeeming in the ongoing protests against corporate greed, but he has worries about how the Occupiers are impacting businesses. “They’ve been there a long time, and perhaps they shouldn’t be allowed to stay that long,” he says. “A lot of decisions have to be made, because it’s getting bigger and bigger and businesses are very much being affected.”

And as he has numerous times before, Trump said that be believes the Occupiers may be misdirecting their anger. “I personally think Wall Street isn’t their target,” he explained. “I think their target is the White House and certainly Washington.”

Morgan also delved into Michael Moore‘s assessment of the nation’s problems as well as the filmmaker‘s assertion that Wall Street is solely responsible for the nation’s financial crisis. Trump disagreed with this assessment, saying:

“A lot has to do with politics, a lot has to do with the president, a lot has to do with bad decisions that have been made. We’ll see what happens but it’s a mess.”

Watch these comments, below:

Watch Michael Moore deny to Morgan the fact that he’s part of the “1 percent”:

CNN clearly distorted Trump’s comments, but rather than a Woodstock Festival, OWS should have been required to obtain a permit with a date and time to protest, and then leave. It would be “cool” for Trump to pony up for damages however.

      Are you kidding?!?!?!?!?
“It would be “cool” for Trump to pony up for damages however.”

NO, THE OWS THUG ORGANIZERS AND LABOR UNIONS SHOULD PAY FOR THEIR OWN MESS.

That is part of the problem now, too many people are not responsible for their own actions.

Can’t say for sure on this particular quote, but I happened to watch this interview and found Trump soft on his comments/criticisms on both the OWS demonstrations and the current administration. It seems he may have been toning his comments to the audience. The negative comments were extremely soft and avoided the heart, organization, and mercenary nature behind the rabble that’s been roused, and the adminstration’s involvement. Not knowing him that well, maybe it is as one poster stated his gracious nature. He does appear to play both sides of the fence, even with his political contributions.

But he did hold his ground on the tenuous nature of Obama’s latest posted birth certificate…but he wished Perry hadn’t disclosed that.

I get DirectTV and the news mix channel lets you see Fox Business…Carl Rove was on at that time so I turned the selector the the trump interview on CNN. It was an informative interview.

Trump was talking about himself. He thought, for himself, it would be “cool” to do an interview. Typical journalism, trying to create a story instead of reporting one.

My biggest complaint: They claim to speak for me. I never requested that they do so. They don’t, I don’t want them to, and would like them to stop. They are not the “99%”… they are something like the 0.5%. Sooo… speak for themselves and stop trying to play themselves off as some collective voice off all the people everywhere.

Why do I sense that you are just HUNGRY for any and everyone to say negative things about those Citizens. If you do not support something, is that not enough. Do you need the entire country to not support it in order to make your views more valid. You remind me of a person I know, who does not like a friend of ours, and he doesn’t want anyone else to like this person either.

    WOW!

@Miami: So, are you equating the OWS protesters with Nazis? Other than a handful of anti-Semitic comments, I don’t see the comparison.

What I see is a hodge-podge group of angry people who have no common link except that they believe Wall Street is responsible for their ills. My concern is someone lurking behind the scenes, just waiting to harness that anger and turn it to destructive ends (Grab, Smash, and Burn)…

THE story is that CNN, a ‘news’ agency LIED and changed the news to suit their purpose. Nothing more and nothing less.

O’Neal the guy wo brought us proof that acorn was involved in crime, has a video out where the media is in collusion with the occupiers. Breitbart has emails from msnbc hosts coaching leaders. Donny Duetche calling for a Kent State moment. No wonder cnn would edit Trump. When i see Shultz pre blaming republicans for the soon to come violence we know it is coming. We have to keep emailing the proof to each others because the major networks are supporting this. Remember the same media cheated Hillary out of the nomination and now evidence in Indiana of voter fraud to get Obama on the ballot is available. Remember the same people prevented the Florida primary which would have allowed Hillary a nomination. Stay strong people, we need to do the job of the media as well as the job of being good citizens.
