Cop Shoots Dog ‘in Cold Blood’ Responding to 9-1-1 Call At Wrong Address

A police officer in Dekalb County near Atlanta responded to a 911 call on Wednesday and shot a pet German Shepherd  just moments before finding out he responded to the wrong address.Cop Shoots Dog in Cold Blood Responding to 911 Call At Wrong Address

Now, the owners of the dog are outraged, and there seems little they can do about this very sad incident.

One of the owners told WAGA-TV:  ”When I opened the door I started screaming, I said this dog has been shot. I saw nothing but blood… he killed that dog. She added ”It frustrated me because he was so quick to kill the dog.”

The 2-year-old German Shepherd, named “Easy,” was still chained up when the officer shot it. He later stated that he “felt threatened.”

Even more agitating for the owners, though, was that the police officer was investigating the wrong home. He was supposed to be on the scene of a domestic disturbance call across the street.

“Why did you shoot my dog?… I did not call you,” Easy’s owner said she yelled at the police officer.

The officer was not placed on administrative leave and is back on the streets already, though internal affairs was apparently investigating.

WAGA-TV has more on the dog shooting incident below, which it described as ‘in cold blood‘:

Righhhhtt- “…He later stated that he “felt threatened.”…” so the next time I see a cop I can shoot him because ‘I feel threatened’. It should be good for the goose since it’s good for the gander. If it doesn’t stand up in court, I can sue the judge for not having recused himself since he has a ‘vested’ interest in law enforcement.
This cop should be shot just for getting the address wrong.

Unfortunately VMan is correct to a degree. Although he often uses police brutality to justify blacks killing and raping 10s of thousands of whites which is extreme the fact is however that cops and soldiers are no different than the society as a whole which is becoming more and more degenerate.

I like what Dr. Paul said last night on abortion. Our nation demands the right to murder babies because we are an immoral people as a whole.. He said first change the morality then you can change the laws.. You know for several hundred years you’d been killed in this country over suggesting that one had a right to murder a baby. It’s just one more indication of who/what we have become.

“I felt threatened.” What a pathetic excuse!! He doesn‘t take any responsibility for his actions and it’s just business as usual. What if I walked over to my neighbor’s house, saw a dog, and just shot it. Would I get to use that excuse? This is absolutely ridiculous!

Police officers ARE OBLIGATED to follow the same laws the citizens must follow! PERIOD!!!

If we feel threatened by a cop, can we shoot him, what’s the difference. Cops carry guns, and as we can see, are threats to everyone and in this case everything. With idiot cops like this around we all need guns for protection against cops.

Was it during daylight or at night? How long was the chain? Was this a trained guard dog that the owners left outside every night to charge and snap at everyone who walks by? Of course the Blaze didn’t include these facts, they just wanted to throw more red meat to the haters! They just want you to believe that it was at mid day, the chain was five feet long, and the dog was wagging its tail when the cop shot it!!

Cop screwed up by going to the wrong house, in spite of the public’s perfect expectations cops do make mistakes like that sometimes, but I won’t be so quick to judge him on shooting the dog.

I saw a police chase once..They warned us it was graphic..there was a tall waify women with long dark hair in a long dress allof her children in a van…She was married to a police officer..and for some reason..the cops.most likely at the bequest of her husband were chasing her..She had a gun on the dashboard with of her children in the van..she pulls over and gets out…I‘m thinking she grabs the gun off of the dash because her motherly instincts won’t allow her children to be in the van alone with the gun They tell her to drop the gun with her hands in the air..It appears she is dropping her arm down to her side with the gun and there are several officers trained on her.and POW..this lovely young woman falls to the ground..I believe the police make a lot more mistakes than what we give them credit for..perhaps because their lives are always in danger…but this cop had to be a wuss.

You obviously have never put your life on the line in a domestic disturbance. To call these guys names and “armchair quarterback” is ignorant at best.

Dogs are animals and should not be treated with the same value as humans. German Shepherds are strong, fast, and can be trained to be vicious.

Granted, he should have checked the address. It’s a mistake. Don’t castigate the guy for the mistake. I am sure he feels bad about it. Trust in his honor that he will do what he can to make it right.

Grow up a little and stop using these stories as an opportunity to whine.

Outrageous. When someone kills a police K9 (which is trained to attack), they are labelled a cop killer and the cops do everything they can to put them away for as long as possible. When a cop kills an innocent citizen’s dog because it barked at them… “self defense.”

Cops should not get special privileges when it comes to “self defense.” In fact, cops should be held to a higher standard. They are specifically trained to know when deadly force is justified. You cannot justify killing a dog that is chained up.

He should be fired immediately, and charged as if he were a regular person that just showed up and shot the dog for no reason… because that is exactly what he did. The only difference is he did it on the taxpayers’ dime, with a gun paid for by taxpayers, with authority granted for the purpose of protecting the taxpayers.

      It’s the Economy-

The problem is, when police make mistakes, someone ends up dead. In this case it was the dog, lots of other mistakes lead to the death of people. Cops have become trigger happy. Marines in combat zones have better firing discipline then our domestic police depts. If cops have become this scared, they should not be carrying firearms, they have become a danger to the public. Maybe they need to become like british police for our safety.

      @rush is right
you know what? this issue on abortion isnt just about whether its wrong or not to kill a baby. i
      1) a woman should be given the choice to abort if having a child is detrimental to her health and well-being and potetially KILL HER. 2) if a woman has been raped and is impregnated by the person who raped her, forcing her to have that child is cruel and inhuman because that child is a constant painful reminder of an ATTACK she had to endure, and giving the baby up for adoption has a chance of coming back to haunt them if that child tries to find its birth parents. at which point that leaves a hurtful situation where a mother has to explain to this child where he/she came from and why she didnt want to keep the kid. 3) scientifically speaking, for the first 2-3 months a womans body is trying to kill what the body view as an illness, because in the first two months the baby is the same as a tumor/parasite on a cellular level.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Defense_of_Abortion
      http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/node/1845
the only people who should be involved in this issue are the ones who made or want to make a baby and their doctor. birth control was orriginally created to regulate a womens menstrual cycle, which some of us still use it for, and the contraceptive just happened to be a side effect.
so, you, the fed, and santorem dont need to be dictating my or any other woman’s body, and keep your nose out of my uterus.

@Bumpkin; you are dead wrong. It IS as simple as whether it is right or wrong to kill a baby. There is no scientifically proven point between conception and birth at which a fetus magically “turns into” a baby. So we must assume one of two things; a person gains human rights at conception, which is the earliest point at which we can determine that life is about to happen, or there is no discernible point at which a human “gains” rights. Where do you draw the line? As long as the baby hasn’t been delivered yet? Right after it’s been delivered? As long as it hasn’t left the hospital yet? As long as it hasn’t learned to talk? When does it receive the same right to live as you and I? That’s a damn dangerous path to tread. Furthermore, the men in a woman’s life should be getting her a handgun and lessons to use it efficiently to prevent rape, etc. I acknowledge that a firearm isn’t a good luck charm, but having one and knowing how to use it can go a long way in preventing yourself from becoming a victim of such a crime. I know women who carry a firearm on their person every day and know how to use them. I also know women who won’t touch one. That’s their choice.

And lastly, there are approx. 1.37 Million abortions in the United States every year. Guess how many rapes? 92455. That accounts for only a 14th of the abortions that occur, and that assumes every rape results in pregnancy. Sorry, the issue of abortion is more about convenience than it is rape

Obviously this trigger happy jerk didnt even wait for the dog to reach the end of the chain, or he would have noticed the animal was chained. He had time to draw a gun then he also had time to deploy pepper spray. Every cop I encounter carries pepper spray on the same belt as his gun often right next to the gun. He execized extremely poor judgement with the use of deadly force and represents a threat to the community he should be removed from the force immediatly and have his right to conciel carry reviewed possibly revoked.

That jackknife also has a tazer, a nightstick, and most likely pepper spray. Really? He had to shoot a CHAINED UP dog because he felt threatened. He did it on purpose, no doubt. Hey, I wonder what this 40 cal. will do to that dog. I’ve always wanted to find out and I cannot fight this urge any longer. Wow, this is unbelievable. I don’t know about you all, but I sure the hell don’t want cops in my town who “FEEL THREATENED” by a chained up dog; especially, in light of the fact that this idiot first went after his sidearm. What an accident waiting to happen. Fire this flake immediately. He needs to not be on the streets any longer. He is a threat to the entire community. He needs to be the one chained up as to see there is no harm he can do to anyone. He is not mentally stable in the head. He may very well be one of the rejects they weed out of the military within the first five weeks of bootcamp when they realize that the jackknife is actually only there so he can have the opportunity to kill other people to feed this desire that has burned in his soul since he was a child, you know the unstable types I’m talking about, and obviously, this clown is very unstable; there is no other way to justify it.

Maybe it’s best we all remember that many cities lowered their test requirements in hiring police to cast a wider net , to get more police. In the citiy near me, the entry level test was lowered almost a hundred points.
There was a lot of talk that it was Affirmative Action, to get more AA cops, but the only difference I see around me is that there are more bubblebrained cops. I’m not exactly seeing the United Colors of Benaton patrol the streets here.

AJAYW is correct. When a person fights off a police dog it is assault of a peace officer but if a cop kills your dog for no reason it called “a mistake”. What a load of crapola. When the system collapses who do you think is going to help you out more, the cops or your fellow citizens. Cops are people and make mistakes and like every other citizen, and he needs to pay for his mistakes just like everyone else has to.

Yes fired and charged with whatever crime I would be charged with if I came onto your property and shot your dog. I know dang well he had pepper spray. He had time to deploy a firearm he also therefore had time to deploy pepper spray (a very effective deterrant, it work on BEARS) If he animal was out of range of pepper spray then the obvious conclusion is he was not threatened. He chose a firearm over a non-lethal deterrant and you think he should be responding to domestic disputes where there is the possiblity of children being present. Your obviolsy a cop who asumes all civillains are criminals and therefore are a threat, got a “throwdown” in your arsenal? I bet you do.

No kidding! I mean what if it was dark and the owners had no idea who was in their yard firing shots at their house! If this would have been my house (because I’m always paranoid of burglars) that cop would have had two shots to the chest and one to the head through my living room window before I would have even known who he was.
If you have an officer that feels justified to start shooting at just about anything that startles him then he shouldn’t be on the force.
      He’s lucky to be alive.

The officer shooting the dog should be treated the same way as if he shot a human. I understand that officers have a lot to deal with but incidents like this are uncalled for and the officer should be punished. If someone came in my house and shot at my dog I would not hesitate to put him out of his misery regardless of the uniform he was wearing.

With the way I see how some humans act and behave I would have to put the the dog above many of these losers in society. I have been owned by many dogs and their level of loyalty and devotion far exceeds that of many humans. In this case an out of control cop who like you considers the dog as nothing but livestock will likely get off with nothing but a slap on the wrist regardless of how he has devastated an innocent family. If the out of control cop was shot by a protective homeowner I wonder how this story would play out.

In a word: Yes. You claim a dog can be replaced, but a human can’t. Really? How many babies are murdered in abortion clinics every day?
I don’t agree with your sentiment, or the observation: I have three dogs, and a cat, and each of them is part of my family. You’d get the same treatment attacking one of them as you would attacking my child. Especially if the dog, or child, was chained (not that I chain my kids, but the idea is the same)and easy enough to escape from by walking backwards five feet.

The police recognize that because if you shoot a police dog, you’re guilty of shooting an “officer”, right?
Then why is that woman not afforded the same ability to protect her family, which includes the dog, and shoot back?

Just because you carry a badge and a gun does not entitle you to damage and destroy other peoples property. If you come on my property without due cause, pull a gun and start shooting, you had better be prepared for the consequences. In Texas we have the castle doctrine. I felt threatened. I defended myself. He had alresdy started shooting, I feared for my life. End of story. And yes, I put the life of my dogs above probably a good 25% of the population.

I would have no problem if the woman killed the cop right after the cop shot her dog.

My dogs are family. If a stranger/police came into my yard and were going to shoot my family, I would do whatever I could to stop them. I doubt that I would even have a chance to think about it before reacting.

Also – FYI killing a police dog is considered killing an officer.

P.S. – eating meat isn’t hypocritical – for thousands of years humans and their dogs have hunted and eaten meat together.

looks like all te Bambi movies and such did just what the libs wanted them to do. It put people down on the level with animals. thus the reason we have the abortion rates we have, and people are more worreid about a cat cought in the gutter pipe than they are than black kids in the projects are getting slaughtered.

I guess I care about my dog a good deal. My two girls absolutely love our little red boxer, and will be very sad when she passes one day

If the folks living next to me are running a meth lab, and the cops come to shut it down, and some how shot Pepper (our boxer). We would be sad and mad. If it was a mistake, we would be looking for the police to pay, and replace the dog. I do not put the police man that accidently shot my dog or any others at less of a value (for his life). He will not be up for the death penalty for shooting my dog, and I could not justify killing him.

If the cops accidently came over and shot my daughter, do you think I would react the same as if he shot my dog? If so, you need your head examined. Human life is greater than dog life. If your kids are not more important that Fido, then I feel very sorry for you kids.

If you shot a police dog, or are trying to shoot one, the police can shoot back at you. If you did kill a police dog, you will not get life in prison or the death penalty for doing so. You may do time, but not life. If you shoot a cop, you will do life, or may get executed.

okay, I missed the “still chained” part… was it an 8′ chain? or a 200′ chain?
I still can’t imagine an officer shooting when he could step out of reach.

What’s sadder than a dead dog is people criticizing the cop without knowing anything of his background.
Has the cop been heroic in the past? Has he risked his life to save others?
All meaningless, because we have a dead dog.

Whats sadder than that is “To Serve and Protect” means to serve and protect the Corporation, not you.
The Corporation does what it wants, under the guise of being a government.
They will settle out of court since they have plenty of Money.

Just a dog? right? Someone in the family didn’t consider it like a son, daughter or just a general Family member?
Well, you have that same mentality, and your name leans pro-cop, so it is safe to guess you are a cop.
Why don’t you tell the people that 80% of you guys are corrupt?
Why don’t you tell them that the Corporation (your Employer) has just become a monetary mill to squeeze the Tax-Payers more than they already are, with the Economy, their taxes and the Global elite can just Print up more money.
Now the Law has become Creditor vs.Debtor.
Break a Law? You are the Debtor, the Corporation is the Creditor.
Tell the people how all of your “cases” are creditor / debtor cases.

His past is irrelevant. If the idiot cop is threatened by a dog, what kind of cop is he? The cops are way too trigger happy. All cops are dirtbags, everyone one of them. You hear a story like this once a week at least. First of all, the idiot cops had the wrong address. Before you come in with guns you better damn well have the right house in the first place. This cop should be fired at a minimum.

Its pretty danged clear what happened. The officer went to the WRONG address and due to the 911 call he received he SHOT the dog. Thats what happened and he got it WRONG. He should have verified the address and why did he shoot a dog on a chain? He should be punished, pure and simple. He jumped the gun, thought he knew what he was doing and then he exacerbated the situation by the way he treated the husband, forcing him to keep his hands up. I know the dog is a dog but these folks deserve some kind of compensation for the cops mistake and the cop deserves some type of punishment AND re-training. I feel sorry for the folks who had to go through this. I would have been traumatized big time. I hope they get at least an apology! “Every knee will bow and every tongue confess”

I’m confused because I was under the impression that dogs are considered private property. There should be some legal recourse to get the cost of a new dog from the negligent party.

Has to be more to this story.
I’ll wait for the rest of the facts.
Dog on a leash? Off leash? Fenced? Did this take place inside the house?
There’s gotta be more. I can’t see an officer just shooting a dog for “feeling” threatened.
If the dog posed an imminent threat to the officer, he was defending himself. Regardless of whether he was at the correct address, on his lunch break, out for a jog, etc.
If YOU are being attacked by a dog and you have a gun, what are YOU going to do? Wait to get attacked? Dogs don’t stop when an officer says, “stop, in the name of the law.”
There‘s gotta be more facts we don’t yet have.

If anyone shot my dog without cause, it would not go unanswered. The owner needs to file suit, bigtime – the cop, the city, everyone that was connected in any way. To some owners, their dog can be just like a child to them.

These incidents of charging the wrong address by police should not be protected. Policemen are professionals and endangering innocent citizens is or should be a crime. If you come to my door
with violence in mind, cop or crook, you will be met with force. I reserve the right to defend my home. Everyone should express this attitude. Whenever a cop breaks down the wrong door, he should be considered as an intruder and charged with breaking and entering. Also, in the process of doing this, the cop should not be protected from the citizen defending his home. If he challenges the citizen in the citizen’s home without cause, he is threatening their lives…… period.

I agree .. the same with irresponsible dog owners who’s dogs attack people and pets … we have a rule of law and it should apply to everyone … btw .. never tie your dog out unattended … you don’t know who might do something to it and it has no ability to flee.

I agree, a dog should not be chained. Not because of what some liberal may say, but simply because it is cruel to the dog. If you can’t keep it inside or behind a fence, you shouldn’t have one.
