SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — A man who says he was molested three decades ago by a Jesuit priest was arrested Friday on charges that he tracked down the retired cleric in his retirement home and severely beat him.
Will Lynch, 44, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and was to be released on $25,000 bail after his lawyer negotiated his surrender with authorities in Santa Clara County, defense attorney Pat Harris told The Associated Press.
Lynch has harbored a fantasy for years of confronting the priest, who also allegedly molested his little brother.
Harris said the Rev. Jerold Lindner, a 65-year-old Jesuit priest, was attacked in March or April at the Jesuits’ Sacred Heart retirement home in Los Gatos, but police didn’t zero in on Lynch until earlier this month.
The priest‘s condition or whereabouts weren’t immediately known. He has previously denied abusing the Lynch boys and has not been criminally charged. The abuse falls outside the statute of limitations.
Harris said Lynch will plead not guilty when he is arraigned sometime in the next month. He is accused of finding Lindner in his room at the rest home and pummeling him with his fists.
“They’re saying he took him into a room and basically beat the hell out of him. They’re saying it was pretty close to beating him to death,” Harris said of his client. “They’re essentially saying that he waited all these years and then took out his revenge. It’s sort of the ultimate revenge story.”
Lynch and his younger brother settled with the Jesuits of the California Province, a Roman Catholic religious order, for $625,000 in 1998 after alleging that Lindner abused them in 1975 during weekend camping trips in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The boys, who were 7 and 5 at the time, were raped in the woods and then forced to have oral sex with each other while Lindner watched, Harris said. Lindner has been accused of abuse by nearly a dozen people, including his own sister and nieces and nephews, both before and after he was ordained.
Lindner was removed from ministry and placed at the Los Gatos retirement home in 2001. He was named in two additional lawsuits for abuse between 1973 and 1985, according to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The cases were included in the record-breaking $660 million settlement struck between the church and more than 550 plaintiffs in 2007.
Lindner did not immediately return a call left on his answering machine Friday. A message at the Jesuits’ provincial headquarters in Los Gatos said the offices were closed until Monday, and no one immediately returned a message.
Lynch declined an interview Friday but in a 2002 Los Angeles Times article, he said he’d had nightmares for years, battled depression and alcoholism and had attempted suicide twice because of the priest’s abuse.
“Many times I thought of driving down to LA and confronting Father Jerry. I wanted to exorcise all of the rage and anger and bitterness he put into me,” Lynch told the newspaper. “You can’t put into words what this guy did to me. He stole my innocence and destroyed my life.”
The Associated Press does not identify victims of sex crimes as a matter of policy, but Lunch has come forward publicly to tell his story.
Detective Sgt. Ryan Elder, the officer overseeing the investigation, did not immediately return a call Friday.
Although rare, it’s not unheard of for victims of sexual abuse to take revenge upon their abusers — and it can be normal and even helpful for victims to fantasize about revenge without acting on it, said Steven Danish, a professor of psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University who’s counseled sexual abuse victims.
In Lynch’s case, reading about Lindner in media accounts throughout the years and realizing he had gone unpunished could have pushed Lynch from fantasizing about a confrontation to acting on it, said Danish, who has not treated Lynch.
“Imagine holding something inside for 35 years and letting it fester. I would expect … he almost got reinfected by reading about it,” Danish said. “He’s probably thinking, ‘You’re living your life and here I am a failure and all because of what you did to me on that day.’”
There have been several other instances of violence, sometimes fatal, against priests accused of abuse since the Roman Catholic clergy abuse scandal unfolded in 2002.
In Baltimore, a man who claimed he was sodomized and fondled by a priest a decade before shot the clergyman three times after the priest told him to go away when he confronted him and demanded an apology.
The defendant was acquitted of attempted murder but convicted on gun charges and served 18 months of home detention.
The following year, priest John Geoghan was strangled to death in his cell by a fellow inmate who claimed he was chosen by God to kill pedophiles. Geoghan was serving a 9- to 10-year sentence for groping a boy and was at the center of the Boston clergy abuse scandal. He had been accused of molesting as many as 150 boys.
In the current case, the attorney who represented the Lynch brothers in their settlement said the boys’ allegations were shocking but credible.
“I became aware of other cases involving Lindner, so my experience with these cases has been that these things don’t happen in isolation,” said Michael Meadows, the attorney. “Lindner fit the pattern.”
Meadows said he received several “frantic calls” from Lynch earlier this month, but declined to say more.
Lindner was ordained in 1976 and taught at various Catholic high schools during his career, including 16 years as chairman of the English department at Loyola High School, a prestigious Catholic prep school in Los Angeles.
There, he launched nearly two dozen after-school programs for students, including a chess club and renaissance club, and became master of a Boy Scout troop that included mostly lower-income Puerto Rican boys, his older brother, Larry Lindner, told The Associated Press.
Most of Lindner’s family severed contact with him years ago after discovering that he had molested his nieces and nephews during family visits when they were as young as 3. They were unaware he had recently been attacked, said his sister, Kathy McEntire.
McEntire said her brother molested her starting when she was 5 — and she learned 15 years ago that he also abused her son for years. She last spoke to her brother in 2001. “Jerry’s violent and I would not be surprised if he did get beat up. I could understand somebody getting that mad,” McEntire told the AP. “I‘ve often said myself that I don’t trust myself around him. I would likely wind up in jail because I‘d probably kick him somewhere where the sun doesn’t shine — and I’m his sister.”
During their last visit nine years ago, McEntire asked Lindner if any of the abuse allegations were true.
“I said, ‘Is it true? He said, ‘Well, some of it,’” McEntire said. “I called him a few choice words and that was the last time I ever saw him.”
Larry Lindler, a retired Los Angeles police officer, said he last saw his brother more than two decades ago after he walked in on him molesting his 8-year-old daughter during a visit. The two were playing a game called “blankie” in which Lindner asked the little girl to lie over his lap like a blanket and then wiggled around as if trying to get comfortable.
“The last contact I had with him personally was the day after I caught him with my daughter and I told him he best get in his vehicle and leave,” he recalled. “I said, ‘If I go out to the truck and get my off-duty weapon out of the glove box, you’re a dead man.”

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 11:35amSince the Roman Catholic doctrine is a perversion and blasphemy of what Jesus taught and is not considered to be a religeon that glorifies Christ but glorifies the queen of heaven, Mary, it is not unusual that her priest be perverts. People love that religeon because you can kill and commit adultery etc and get away with it. All it requires is how much money you have to pay the vatican. That is why most mobsters in the mafia associated closely with their priests.
These men get what they deserve here on earth, then, they will get what they deserve on the other side because it is very very rare that men like that come to repentance because they have been given over to a reprobate mind.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 11:18amC’mon people… What about tolorance?
From what I have been reading lately “political correctness” is the order of the day in the U.S.. What really sucks is the “group” of people who originally said they just want acceptance and tolerance of their “life-style” (one they freely choose to live in) has become the most intolerable group of all. If you disagree they rally around their rainbow flags to defame, besmirch, and simply all out attack you, especially since the suicide of Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers student who jumped off the George Washington Bridge after he was secretly videoed having a homosexual encounter in his dorm.
Why would he kill himself? I don’t know what his “encounter” involved but shouldn’t he be proud to be a homosexual? Why would any person intentionally be something they’re not proud of?
I am going to speculate… lets say he was getting it up the bum… so what? What homosexual would find anything out of the ordinary about that? In fact I’d bet that if there were any other homosexuals in the dorm at the time and they knew what was going on, there would have been a line of homosexuals at the door waiting their turn to play “rump ranger” with Tyler.
Ok… so let’s say Tyler wasn’t getting it up the bum… Let’s say he was bouncing testicles off his chin… SO WHAT! Shouldn’t he be proud to live in a society where a guy can do such an act and not fear retribution for it? The truth is that when a man labels himself as a homosexual, every heterosexual male (and female) immediately get a subconscious mental image of the guy involved in homosexual sex and anyone who says they don’t is a liar.
I’ll give a simple example… who has ever seen Barney Frank on television and not visualized him with a mouth full of testicles?
Now with all this crap about new bullying laws, hate crime laws, and the whole host of special priorities being given to a very small group of people what is a person to think?
Let me offer a hypothesis… A “straight” man is walking down the street… suddenly he is accosted by two thugs who rob and kill him. They take his money and go off to the local Micky D’s for dinner, only to be caught later that night and charged with the robbery and murder.
Later in the course of the investigation it is learned that before the alleged shooter pulled the trigger, he used a derogatory term often directed towards homosexuals. Will the charges now be upgraded to “hate crime” status even though the individual was not a homosexual? More importantly, would it really matter?
The victim is dead as a door knob so in reality it doesn’t matter to him anymore, in fact, nothing matters to him anymore. Is there any satisfaction for the victims’ family? Heck no! All they know is their loved one is dead.
I tell you all this being forced to accept homosexuality as a “normal” lifestyle makes me want to shout “move over Tyler” and jump off the GWB too! Can’t they just live their lives and leave the rest of us alone?
Be a proud homosexual whether you are getting it up the bum or bouncing testicles off your chin, I REALLY DON’T CARE! It is your life and you have no explanation to make other then to the *person you see when you look in the mirror, if he (or she) is happy… end of story.
* Some people might suggest that you will have some explaining to do in what they call the Great White Thrown Judgment, but paying any credence to these people or not, is entirely up to the individual.
In all fairness and in my not being willing to be seen as picking only a select portion of the homosexual community I must say these thoughts apply similarly for women in the “lifestyle” just as much as it does for men. Women should be proud to have another woman use an artificial penis on them. They should be proud to be licking each others vaginas like ants on a lollipop!
“Two girls and a glass”, a video on the internet was a very enlightening video. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away so I’ll just say it is two homosexual women and a large glass of feces. SO WHAT if they enjoy smearing fecal matter all over each other during sex. My only question at the end was if they didn’t swallow, is it really fair to call them feces eaters?
I don’t want to get off point which is the whole homosexual community should be PROUD! Heck… if homosexuality is going to be taught in our schools, why not include the fine art of fecal ingestion?
I still find it hard to believe that as little as 35 years ago The American Psychological Association had homosexuality listed as a mental disorder… WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!
Needless to say, neither of my two children will be attending public school. Not that I think teaching deviant sexual behavior is wrong, it’s just not what I envision my kids learning in elementary school.
In closing I’d just like to say to all of the homosexual community out there… BE PROUD. Whether you’re getting it in the bum, or down the throat… BE PROUD! When you’re sticking plastic penises up each others vaginas… BE PROUD! Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you do not have the right to be as deviant as you choose to be. Strap on those penises and give it to each other the way you want it but… BE PROUD! When you’re munching on a feces sandwich… BE PROUD! Power to the people!

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 10:57amThe statute of limitations should never expire. The very nature of the crime is an injury to a child’s soul that it takes 30+ years to fully surface. In your 20‘s and 30’s you are still trying to make sense of things. It makes perfect sense that the choice to act came in his 40′s. The law did not protect or serve him, his spiritual network failed him, and no one can process the despair of knowing stolen innocence and a life altered as a child unless you have walked that path.
Good for you Sir, the beat down was the ONLY decent and righteous thing to do. The easiest things to do were walk away and pray that things would work out. Take a stand for yourself. NO ONE else ever did.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 10:29amYou Can’t Fix Stupid – but you Can Vote ‘Em Out !!!
Our great country was founded by and for the citizens of the thirteen colonies. It was designed to insure that a central government was controlled and limited by representatives of those citizens. It was given a limited amount of power, with many checks and balances, to secure the rights and freedoms for its citizens. They were making sure that an American Government would and could not become as Britian had. England enacted laws and taxes on their American subjects, but without allowing the colonies a say in their government. Ignoring the will of the people of America, they bullied and took away what limited rights they had and tried to force them to comply. Sound familiar? Yes, we don’t have to look far across the Atlantic at a despotic leader, we have only to look at the Oval Office in Washington, D. C. and to those whom we had entrusted the liberties of the people and the country. Our representatives, Senate and the House, are there to represent the will of the people. Instead, they have consistently lied to their constituents, both during campaigns and when in office. They have consistently robbed the American people, not only of their money, but also by stealing their liberties, little by little. The incumbent office holders allow themselves to be above the law, they allow themselves to steal by back-room corrupt deals and the like. They ignore the very people who put them in office, they even resort to passing laws, under cover of darkness. They hide laws and corrupt deals in the midst of thousand of pages of laws. This has always been a trick of unethical lawyers. Their mindset is to bog down any opposition by inudating them with mountains of paperwork. Then, they laugh and call the people stupid and ignorant, or worse! No doubt, I could go on and on. Their lack of character, morals and ethics makes them unfit to be employed anywhere, let alone entrusted with the security, freedom, and economic growth of this great country. They have taken your freedom to worship, especially targeting Christianity. They have tried to rewrite the American history, to further their agendas, just like the Moslems continue to do with Israel.
Soon after deciding what sort of Government America was to become, that very question was asked of Benjamin Franklin. In reply Franklin said, “A Republic….if we can keep it”. This is a question that should be upon the lips of all true American patriots. If we can’t or more correctly, if we won’t, then we don’t deserve it. The choice is up to us, the American people, and the answer should be and must be yes we will!
You’re probably asking how do we insure that we will keep this nation a free Republic. Oh, we voted for only those who promised no more taxes, no more spending, etc., etc. Of course they all were proven to be liars again (or should I have said they were just not quite forthcoming or perhaps they were a little disingenuious?). Then we did the “best of the two evils” choice. This was no different than the “Magician’s Choice” trick! We now know that there is no difference between Republicans and the Democrats when it comes to which is telling the truth. Neither has the best interest of America at heart, probably not even in mind! Their goal is simply to acquire power, money, more power and more money while doing and saying anything to remain in office.
So what is the answer? They don’t listen when the people, overwhelmingly, protest and tries to voice their opposition. So the American people need to get their UNDIVIDED attention. How? WE THE PEOPLE, must vote any and all incumbents out of office. It doesn’t matter if they are better than most. If they haven’t been part of the solution, then they are part of the problem. THEY MUST KNOW AND WE MUST LET THEM KNOW THAT GOVERNMENT WILL NO LONGER BE RUN BY ROUGUE LAWYERS AND OPPORTUNISTS, PROGRESSIVES (AKA SOCIALISTS), ETC. THEY ARE NOTHING MORE THAN MODERN-DAY CARPETBAGGERS OR WANNA-BE DICTATORS. THEY MUST BE EDUCATED TO THE FACT THAT THEY WILL BE VOTED OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN, UNTIL THEY LEARN THAT OUR REPRESENTATIVES ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO RUN THEIR OWN VERISON OF CRIME, INC.
AND THOSE THAT ARE ELECTED TO OFFICE, BUT CONTINUE TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR THEIR OWN BENEFIT WILL SOON LEARN THEY WILL HAVE ONLY ONE TERM IN OFFICE.
We, the people, need to lobby our newly elected representatives to enact new laws to insure ALL our freedoms, our security, etc. Enact laws that ethical or criminal behavior of representatives will be prosecuted swiftly and severly, with no possibility of any pardon…not by a state Governor nor by a President! Enact laws or amendments to limit a President to one term only, ensuring that any damage to our country will not be as damaging as is obvious with this Government. Further limit the terms of our Representatives, both in the Senate and the House. Imperative to limit the term of all Supreme Court Justices to no more than an eight year term and make an amendment that the justices can no longer re-interpret the Constitution, but uphold the laws as it was written and intended by the original framers.
So, the bottom line is this: unless the American people get the undivided attention of those in government…when you and your family members are homeless and hungry or at the very least jobless…remember, you have only yourselves to blame.
THE ONLY WAY TO INSURE THAT YOUR FUTURE REPRESENTATIVES WILL LISTEN TO ITS CONSTITUENTS IS VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS!!! FROM THAT POINT ON, EACH REPRESENTATIVE MUST KNOW WE WILL VOTE THEM OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL WE HAVE RESPONSIBLE REPRESENTATIVES THAT UNDERSTAND THEY ARE THERE FOR THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.
You Can’t Fix Stupid – but you Can Vote ‘Em Out !!!

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 8:56amVengence belongs to God. This action resonates deeply in us to think “finally, he got what he deserved” but this isn‘t God’s way of dealing with the situation. Sexual sin to children from a religious leader is unthinkably sick, but vengence by killing and beating someone within an inch of their life doesn’t fix the problem. Everything within me says “Amen” to hearing about someone getting even, but in the end, the bitterness and destruction of someone carrying this out is more destructive than what it appears. The real powerful outcome in these situations is when someone who has been abused knows their own forgiveness from Jesus Christ, and then is able to give up their rights to take vengence, and can be set free by forgiving that unthinkably sick act of sexual abuse. God is big enough to heal someone of this abhorant action, and there isn’t freedom that comes from vengence.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The number of write-in candidates for Alaska’s U.S. Senate seat has swelled to about 160 amid an effort by conservatives to target the write-in candidacy of GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and it could still grow as officials process filers’ paperwork.
The number by Thursday’s write-in deadline had grown from just a handful earlier this week.
Murkowski mounted her bid after losing the primary to tea-party backed Joe Miller, and some conservatives have urged Alaskans to make their own write-in runs.
Those conservatives include Dan Riehl, who issued a call on Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government website to “highlight the chaos brought about by Lisa Murkowski’s seemingly unending quest for power” with her campaign.
It’s not immediately clear how many of those running did so because of the effort, though the write-in list includes people who’ve openly supported Miller. One of the names on the list is a “Lisa M. Lackey,” who is running as a Republican.
Those seeking to qualify as write-in candidates must submit a letter of intent that includes their name and certifies that they’re Alaska residents. They also are allowed to give the name that they want to have filled in to be eligible to be counted as a vote for them.

I don’t blame the guy either. Why was this monster allowed to remain in the priesthood after he was found out the first time? The church is absolutely to blame for these rogue priests, they need to stop covering for them thereby abetting thier behavior. I went to Catholic school and church, so did all my brothers and sisters and never experienced an bad behavior but it is out there and needs to be dealt with by the church and the law before things like this happen.

Posted on October 30, 2010 at 6:49pmI agree, except he settled for $650,000 (split with his brother), so it makes his case for angry outrage weaker. If he hadn’t taken the money, everyone would be on his side (at least I hope so).
