EL PASO, Texas (The Blaze/AP) — An international bullet crossed the border after it was shot from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, to El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday hitting a 48-year-old woman in the calf.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was pushing a stroller down a busy El Paso street when she was struck. Gregg Allen, El Paso’s chief of police, said the wound was caused by a “full metal jacket hard-nosed bullet” like those used in assault rifles.
Because of that, he said, the projectile caused a clean exit wound. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released.

Mayor John Cook (Photo: ElPasoTexas.gov)
El Paso Mayor John Cook asked residents to remain calm, saying there is “no way to prevent incidents like this from happening” and the odds of getting hit by a stray bullet are minimal.
Many people who were in the area at first didn’t realize what had happened.
“We didn’t hear anything. The first thing we heard was the firemen coming, but we didn’t know what was happening,” said Luis Gomez, a pedestrian who was shopping in the same area where the woman was hit.
She was struck at the same time Juarez police were battling alleged carjackers a few hundred feet from the U.S. border. Allen said reports indicate up to 50 shots were fired in that gunfight.
Police notified the public school district about the shooting and three El Paso schools were put on lockdown.
The bullet was sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety for ballistic analysis, but Allen said it is unlikely the owner of the gun will be found.
Since drug-related violence in Juarez spiked in 2008, bullets have struck El Paso buildings, including a local high school, City Hall and the University of Texas at El Paso. However, this is the first time a person has been hit.
Juarez and El Paso share a large metropolitan area. Their downtown areas are separated by the Rio Grande and the border fence. While El Paso has been dubbed one of the safest cities in the U.S., Juarez’s homicide rate put it among the most dangerous cities in the hemisphere.

An yep, that police official couldn’t find his butt in the dark with both hands….betcha if ‘they’ could trace the bullet it would have come from a ‘walked’ gun thanks to obamination and holder…..

Report Post »Ohhh, those eeevil black assault rifles! We should all cringe in fear and proclaim our adoration of more and better gun restricive laws that further disassemble our Constitution so we can be safe.
(sarcasm over)
I bet that police chief doesn‘t even know what an ’assault rifle’ is, let alone what one looks like.

Not with the U.S. Federal D.o.J. and the A.G.s office along with the B.A.T.F.&E. supplying guns, runners, drugs and laundering the profits, there’s no way to prevent it from happening.
We’ve got an international criminal government (U.S.) running rouge. Running guns, drugs and laundering crime syndicate money. This “IS” HUGE!

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 9:36amWhen I was in the Army, full metal jacket rounds were the standard ammunition of the US military. This was to comply with the Geneval Convention concerning the prohibition against expanding rounds. A full metal jacket round is military grade but obviously is also civilian. The police chief said the round was like those used in assault rifles. You might want to google full metal jacket.

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 6:23amSurely this could ot happen. Janet Napolitano has assured us the border is more secure than it has ever been. There is no way a bullet can cross the border she has declared it safe. There is no problem with illegal immigration. it’s just a figment of the imagination and is exagerated by the govs and law enforcement personnel.
It’s inconcievable that our POTUS and his law enforcement people would lie to the American people.

She, holder and obama may use a Ex order to declare a 3 mile zone along the border we must stay out of unless we get a permitt to be there.. for a small fee of course

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 12:48am@Republicorp – The term “Full metal jacket hard-nosed bullet“ is about as ignorant as saying ”ATM machine”, but is used for liberals who don’t understand that a full metal jacket IS a hard-nosed bullet.
@Obamanation – I agree totally. FMJ rounds are “like those used in assault rifles” the same way that computer monitors are “like those used to watch kiddie porn”.
Of course, the most ridiculous aspect of attempting to ‘demonize’ full metal jacket rounds is that they are LESS LETHAL than hollow points typically used in hunting rifles and pistols. This is why FMJ rounds are used by combat troops in every army in the world and hollow points are outlawed by international convention. But why let reality interfere with one’s political spin?

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 11:28pmIt’s time we got serious about Mexico. When Pancho Villa crossed the border and attacked American citizens, the US sent troops into Mexico to punish them and secure the border. When we get a Republican president with ballz (Santorum or Newt), we need to do that again. Send American troops into Mexico to hold a 20 mile secure area on the border to prevent these kind of incidents and to eliminate illegal immigration.

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 12:56amOr….no drugs to flood the streets of America, then there would be no excessive funding for “the war on drugs”…then they wouldn’t need as many cops to fight that “war on drugs”, then alot of high positions within DEA and lawyers & judges & baliffs & prison guards & probation officers, & drug intervention programs would be without jobs…… then there would be no need for DOJ AG Holder, BATF, FBI, CIA to smuggle weapons to so that they can blame the 2d Amendment & tighten up the screw to the law abiding gun owners of America….. :-/~
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for sending in my fellow Devildogs to hunt down & kill every drug lord & mule in Mexico, but we all know that’ll never happen, that would be bad for business and ozero needs the votes.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 11:32pmThere is a fence along the border in El Paso…granted its a wire fence. I personally think it is a very scary city and every time we have been there I dont not feel safe at all. The freeway runs right next to Juarez and is a stones throw across the Rio. I can see how this stray bullet and others like it cross the border during shoot outs. Most people dont know or realize that Juarez has a curfew of 6 or 7 everyday and no one can be out of their house and in the streets after that time until sun up the next morning. Its plain old creepy.
